In March 1997, the board chair of this small steel mill is pondering how to finance the growth of his firm: either with an initial public offering of equity or a private placement of 8-year senior notes with warrants. The task for the student is to sort out the comparative advantages and disadvantages of each alternative—including valuing the possible securities—and recommend a course of action.

Personalised medicine and precision medicine are being applied in more medical fields in the last years. The need for personalisation is especially pronounced in cervical pathology, since in the majority of cases an abnormal screening test does not necessarily imply high-grade lesion, regardless of whether the screening test is cytology or HPV testing. The chapter aims to summarize the exact added value that mRNA presents for management in clinical practice as well as highlight comparative advantages and disadvantages with other triage strategies.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to examine different types of models dealingwith the question of income distribution. These models can be classified into threecategories: microsimulation models, computable general equilibrium models andintegrated macro-distribution models. In this study, we are concerned with theinvestigation of a few models of each type, the analysis of their essential characteristics and the description of their comparative advantages and disadvantages.

The technical discourse on nutrition surveillance started decades ago, and the first technical guidelines were proposed in mid-1970s. In spite of this long history, little evidence and consensus exists on the best methods for conducting nutrition surveillance, and on the validity of data produced by these approaches. Multiple nutrition surveillance systems exist in humanitarian settings; however, the validity and usefulness of data produced by these systems are often questionable. In this paper, we outline and define five major methodological approaches to collecting child anthropometric data through surveillance: repeated surveys, community-based sentinel sites, mass screenings, admission data from feeding centers, and data from health clinics. We discuss outstanding methodological and practical challenges with direct implications for quality, validity, and interpretability of collected data and highlight comparative advantages and disadvantages of different methods. We also propose ways forward to building a better evidence base by documenting the strengths and limitations of different approaches, with the eventual goal of achieving consensus on the best ways to collect anthropometric data through surveillance.

Issues of transcatheter mitral valve (MV) implantation (TMVI) including implantation of a prosthesis into calcified native fibrous ring (valve-in- MAC), into previously implanted surgical bioprosthesis (valve-in-valve) and MV support ring (valve-in-ring) are considered in the second part of the review devoted to transcatheter methods of treatment of MV pathology. The comparative advantages and disadvantages of two surgical treatment strategies — prosthetics and plastic reconstruction — are also briefly discussed in the context of MV transcatheter surgery.

This paper takes a multi-dimensional look at the theme of African futures. The plural nature of those futures comes out of the numerous differences that African states enjoy in terms of their comparative advantages and disadvantages. The primary angle of investigation, which highlights those differences, is the presence and engagement of the People’s Republic of China across the continent. The case of Rwanda in particular, is one through which many of the challenges and opportunities of future, Chinese-related, African scenarios may be analysed. First, the issue of partnership is touched upon in a post-colonial context, while referencing back to colonial rule and the continent’s inherited status in the world system. Second, the putative threat of ‘recolonization’ is examined with a focus on China’s Africa-policy. Third, Rwanda’s “home-grown” solutions to these and other problems are dealt with, shedding light on the landlocked East-Central African country’s investment policy, approach to external actors, including China, and it’s vision for its own future – the lessons of which are not confined to Rwanda alone.
