The aim of this research is to identify the electrical potential profile on the acupoint betwen healthy people and the patient of asthma. The raw data has taken by recording the electrical potential profile on the acupoints: Feishu, Pishu, and Shenshu from 10 healthy women and the 10 women with asthma attain the age of 20-30 years old based on the second data observation at the Local Government Clinic Kalijudan, Surabaya. Potential profile of the organs were the electrical signals form. It was achieved by the result of electrical potential which was based time recording. Recording time was done for 180 second. The results couldn't be differentiated significantly, so it needs the other signals processing with FFT analyze method with cutting as the data frames. It was done every 5 second. Based on the result of analyzing the amplitude of each frequency group, the significant differences are on the acupoint Shenshu : 0-5 Hz with p= 0.001, on the acupoint Phishu 148-152 Hz with p= 0.010, on the acupoint Feishu for frequency 198-203 Hz with p= 0.004 and on the acuponit Phishu p=0.011, for frequency 348-352 Hz on the acupoint Feishu and Shenshu have both value is p= 0,004 and 398-402 Hz with p=0,009 on the acupoint Phishu. According to the preference, it was found that the electrical potential profile on the acupoints of the healthy people has lower amplitude than the people with asthma. Then, the analyze of electrical potential profile on the acupoints can be used for asthma diagnose.

PurposeFunctional disorders caused by food intolerance (FI) are prevalent, thus it is important to analyze the FI of healthy people to common foods so as to guide the people for eating the healthy foods. The paper aims to discuss this issue.Design/methodology/approachIn total, 88,436 healthy persons including 60,902 males and 27,534 females at the age ranging from 20 to 70 years old were subjected a normal physical examination. In total, 14 kinds of food-specific IgG antibodies were detected by enzyme-linked immunesorbent assay.FindingsThe total positive rate of 14 FIs was as high as 64.16 percent. Five kinds of foods (egg, crab, cod, shrimp and milk) accounted for 84.51 percent of the total positive rate. In more than one kind of FIs, egg took the largest proportion than the others and the proportion was 58.54 percent. The second was crab with a positive rate of 56.19 percent. The antibody positive rate of any food in one kind of FIs was significantly lower than that in more than one kind of FIs (χ2=629.35,p<0.001). Also, younger age subjects displayed the higher positive rate than the older age groups. In addition, there was no significant difference on FI between male and female subjects.Originality/valueThe results would not only prompt us to pay more attention to FI in daily life, but provide theoretical foundation for the early prevention, diagnosis and treatment of related clinical diseases as well as guiding people healthy meals.

The discussion about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is sometimes rather heated. “Quackery!” the cry goes. A large proportion “of unconventional practices entail theories that are patently unscientific.” “It is time for the scientific community to stop giving alternative medicine a free ride. There cannot be two kinds of medicine — conventional and alternative. There is only medicine that has been adequately tested and medicine that has not, medicine that works and medicine that may or may not work.” “I submit that if these treatments cannot withstand the test of empirical research, … then we have wasted a lot of time and effort. The time has been wasted on all the people who have spent years learning falsehoods about acupuncture points and the principles of homeopathy. And the patients have wasted their time, money, and efforts receiving treatments that were not what they were represented to be or were harmful.”

The level of neuropsychic adaptation and regularity of the circadian rhythm of the evacuatory function of the intestine were investigated in the working people. The people were divided - according to the psychic state - into 4 main groups: I - practically healthy people - 22 %, prenosologic condition - 22 %, III - pre-pathologic condition - 27 %, IV - pathology condition - 29 %. The people with the irregular rhythm of the intestine demonstrate worsening of the psychic state from 2 to 6 times more frequently than in the people with a regular rhythm of the intestine.

Objective. Acupuncture points are reportedly distinguishable by their electrical properties. However, confounders arising from skin-to-electrode contact used in traditional electrodermal methods have contributed to controversies over this claim. The Scanning Kelvin Probe is a state-of-the-art device that measures electrical potential without actually touching the skin and is thus capable of overcoming these confounding effects. In this study, we evaluated the electrical potential profiles of acupoints LI-4 and PC-6 and their adjacent controls. We hypothesize that acupuncture point sites are associated with increased variability in potential compared to adjacent control sites.Methods. Twelve healthy individuals were recruited for this study. Acupuncture points LI-4 and PC-6 and their adjacent controls were assessed. A 2 mm probe tip was placed over the predetermined skin site and adjusted to a tip-to-sample distance of 1.0 mm under tip oscillation settings of 62.4 Hz frequency. A surface potential scan spanning a 1.0 cm × 1.0 cm area was obtained.Results. At both the PC-6 and LI-4 sites, no significant differences in mean potential were observed compared to their respective controls (Wilcoxon rank-sum test, and 0.79, resp.). However, the LI-4 site was associated with significant increase in variability compared to its control as denoted by standard deviation and range ( and 0.0005, resp.). At the PC-6 site, no statistical differences in variability were observed.Conclusion. Acupuncture points may be associated with increased variability in electrical potential.

The electrophysiological properties of reabsorptive sweat duct (RSD) cells from normal and cystic fibrosis (CF) subjects were studied using intracellular microelectrodes. The apical membrane potential (Va) of CF duct cells was reversed in "polarity" (+28.0 +/- 2.4 mV, n = 46) compared with normal duct cells (-24.9 +/- 0.4 mV, n = 145), and the basolateral membrane potential (Vb) of CF cells was hyperpolarized significantly (-50.1 +/- 1.2 mV, n = 46) in comparison to normal cells (-34.6 +/- 0.4 mV, n = 145). The substitution of the impermeant anion gluconate for Cl- in the lumen of the normal duct depolarized Va from -24.9 +/- 1.1 to 8.9 +/- 3.1 mV (n = 18) and hyperpolarized Vb from -34.3 +/- 1.1 to -55.6 +/- 3.7 mV (n = 18), which mimicked the cell electrical potential profile of CF ducts even in the presence of Cl-. Cl- substitution in the bath depolarized Vb of normal ducts by 22.5 +/- 2.6 mV (n = 24), while hyperpolarizing Va by -3.4 +/- 1.6 mV (n = 24). The response of the electrical profiles of CF cells to Cl- substitution in either the lumen or the bath was significantly reduced compared with normal cells. The effect of the Na+ conductance blocker amiloride (10(-4) M) on Vb was not significantly different in CF (delta Vb = -26.4 +/- 3.8 mV, n = 9) vs. normal (delta Vb = -27.6 +/- 2.5 mV, n = 30) cells.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
