Expert systems, a type of artificial intelligence that replicate how experts think, can aide unskilled users in making decisions or apply an expert’s thought process to a sample much larger than could be examined by a human expert. In this paper, an expert system that ranks financial securities using fuzzy membership functions is developed and applied to form portfolios. Our results indicate that this approach to form stock portfolios can result in superior returns than the market as measured by the return on the S&P 500. These portfolios may also provide superior risk-adjusted returns when compared to the market.

Nowadays, due to the constraints of budget and time, the prioritization of traffic calming projects before installation of traffic calming measures is vital for transportation engineers and urban planners. The purpose of this study is to develop an expert system for prioritizing streets that are affected by problems associated with traffic safety using Fuzzy Logic. Expert systems have been used widely and globally for facilitating decision-making processes in various fields of engineering. Due to the uncertainty and vagueness in traffic and transportation related problems, the use of fuzzy logic in the inference engines and decision-making processes of expert systems, is effective. In the proposed expert system, effective parameters in prioritizing traffic calming projects in residential streets including traffic volume, residential density, differential speed and number of accidents are investigated. The Fuzzy Logic toolbox, which is embedded in MATLAB (R2010b), is employed to design and simulate this expert system on the basis of Fuzzy Logic. A specific GUI was developed for this purpose. By developing this system, engineers and decision-makers will be able to rank projects according to their importance. This expert system was tested through prioritizing a number of residential streets in the city of Tehran. The output of the tests showed that the proposed system is helpful in prioritizing different traffic calming projects. Finally, the evaluation of the system was conducted. According to the assessment, most evaluators acknowledged the efficiency and effectiveness of the system.

Scabies is a skin disease that is easily transmitted, either through direct contact or through intermediaries such as clothes, bed sheet, and water. The disease causes itching on the body, especially at night. Transmission of the scabies disease is very fast and can develop into an outbreak in a community. Obstacles that occur in the treatment of this disease is not all people with the disease could check it for a variety of reasons, such as too busy with work and economic limitations. This research using fuzzy Tsukamoto to develop an expert system for the detection of scabiesdisease. The use of expert systems is very important because it can be a tool to substitute the expert, the expert system is easy to use, and can make decisions in a short time. Scabies disease diagnosis process carried out by way of input symptoms  that suffered by patients. Symptoms that are used as input is a scratchy, itchy location, number of lesions or spots, and an extensive history of itching or the number of infected person. The outcome of this process is the level of scabies from mild to severe

A doctor or medical scholar needs a reference book to learn how to diagnose tropical diseases. This reference book is sometimes a hassle if you have to carry it everywhere. This reference book is also impractical if you have to search it first to find the symptoms and diseases you want to study. So that we need a system to make it easier for doctors and medical scholars to study the science of diagnosis and look for symptoms and diseases. Expert systems are knowledge-based programs that provide expert quality solutions to problems in a specific domain. This expert system is used in the fields of medicine, agriculture, business, and others. Expert systems in the field of medicine make it easy to identify diseases suffered by patients through the symptoms present in the patient. This expert system helps doctors make diagnoses to convince doctors about the results of the diagnosis. The expert system in this study uses a combined method. The combined method is forward chaining and backward chaining. The forward chaining method is used to determine specific symptoms that appear, while the backward chaining method is used to trace general symptoms that arise from specific symptoms that have been previously selected. The result of combining these methods provides a diagnostic percentage of 100%. Meanwhile, the user's assessment of the system gives a good response.

One of the factors causing rice production disturbance in Indonesia is the lack of knowledge of farmers on early symptoms of rice plant diseases. These diseases are increasingly rampant because of the lack of experts. This study aimed to overcome this problem by providing an Expert System that helps farmers to make early diagnosis of rice plant diseases. Data of rice plant pests and diseases in 2016 were taken from Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia using an in-depth survey, and rice experts from the Department of Food Crops and Horticulture of East Kalimantan Province were recruited for the project. The Expert System for Rice Plant Disease Diagnosis, ESforRPD2, was developed based on the pest and disease experiences of the rice experts, and uses a Waterfall Paradigm and Unified Modelling Language. This Expert System can detect 48 symptoms and 8 types of diseases of rice plants from 16 data tests with an accuracy of 87.5%. The work on construction and operation of automated systems for collection and processing astrometric and meteorological information and also of automated television systems with remote control have placed before us a number of fundamental difficulties in that hundreds of correct solutions to these problems require a systematic approach. The most suitable cybernetics-mathematical composite for solving the problems of astronomical refraction may become the so-called hybrid-expert systems — a union of traditional expert systems with calculation-logical ones. In these systems logical-linguistic models are used together with mathematical ones. The basic problem of ARA-C consists in obtaining a model of the environment in which light propagates and also to give a notion of interaction between electrons (environment) and photons (light). It is proposed to use in this system a model of light interaction with environment built up on special formalisms of artificial intellect (logical-linguistic model). The basic principal in hybrid-expert system ARA-C operation must be mathematical modelling and calculation experimentation. In the proposed hybrid-expert system knowledge is presented on three levels—object, mathematical and programmed. Functioning of the lower levels of ARA-C is connected with formulation of the calculation problems. A calculation problem presented to a technical model determines a partial order on a twopart column of mathematical correlations.

Medicine is one of the areas that has benefited from the use of artificial intelligence since the advent of machine intelligence. Different expert systems for diagnosing diseases have been developed; however, they are either standalone or Web-based systems. This puts a vast majority of Africans in general and Nigerians in particular at a disadvantage, because of computer literacy, accessibility, and usage are very low in this region of the world. Recent advances in the capabilities of mobile phones and increased usage, however, have opened up new opportunities for innovative and complex applications that can be accessed via mobile phones. This chapter presents a disease diagnosis system that can be accessed via mobile phones to cater to the needs of the vast majority of users in places where healthcare is inadequate.

Abstract Although the field of CAD has come a long way in recent years, the integration of CAD with engineering/mechanical design, especially the integration of CAD with conceptual design, has not been given enough importance. Tools which facilitate the custom development of conceptual CAD software are still not available. This is especially true in the case of intelligent CAD systems. This paper describes the philosophy and design of a framework which will facilitate the creation of knowledge-based expert systems to support conceptual design. The design of an object-oriented framework which will assist in the creation of customized expert systems for CAD applications is presented. This framework, known as the Expert Consultation Environment, provides the CAD programmer with tools to create the expert system. This framework consists of various object-oriented classes which the programmer would use during the creation of the knowledge-based expert system. A prototype of a portion of the framework was implemented. The use of this prototype framework in the creation of an expert system for a multi-disciplinary design application is discussed. The framework described in this paper would assist the programmers of CAD systems in building expert systems that are tailor-made for conceptual design. Any expert system created using an implementation of this framework will be very flexible, adaptable, and extendible.
