ABSTRACT From the perspective of invention of traditions of Eric Hobsbawm (2012) who relies on media discourse as a constitutive element of social imaginary in contemporary times, this article was developed.  Thereby, we present and discuss three narratives about the Aldeia TabokaGrande and carnival events in the Taquaruçu district of the Tocantins capital, Palmas. The fronts that build the discursive territory are those of the event's own producer, creator and creator of the Aldeia, the residents of Taquaruçu and the media discourse. To this end, it uses methodological creativity using Content Analysis, Discourse Analysis, Semi-structured Interviews and Collective Subject Discourse Analysis and finds similarities and differences in these discursive fronts, demonstrating how there are distinct projects for the narrative of recent history of Taquaruçu, Palmas and Tocantins.   KEYWORDS: Narrative Dispute; Media speech; Taquaruçu Carnival.     RESUMEN Siguiendo la perspectiva de invención de tradiciones de Eric Hobsbawn (2012) que, en la contemporaneidad, cuenta con el discurso mediático como un elemento constitutivo del imaginario social, producimos este artículo. This article is devoted to the study of the national dream ideologeme in the Chinese and US media. The term “ideologeme” is considered as a lingvo-cognitive phenomenon, which is a complex socio-political concept that includes an ideological component. The authors make a brief analysis of the history of the study of ideologeme in Russian linguistics. The practical part of the study consists of two stages: first, emphasis is placed on extralinguistic factors of the national dream ideology formation for each of the sociocultures, and second, the data obtained are refined through a content analysis of the corpora of media texts collected by the authors on the topic of national dream. The results allow us to speak of two types of national dreams revealing significant differences between the formation of the image of a national dream in the minds of people.

Framing analysis is the latest version of the discourse analysis approach, especially for analyzingmedia texts. Framing analysis as a method of media content analysis, classified as a new version. It evolved in unison with the views of the constructors. This paradigm has its own position andoutlook towards the media. News in the view of social construction, is not an event or fact in areal sense. Here reality is not just simply taken for granted as news. It is a product of interactionbetween journalists and facts. In the process of internalization of journalists hit by reality. Realityis observed by journalists and absorbed in the consciousness of journalists. In the process ofexternalization, journalists throw themselves into meaningful reality. Conceptions of facts areexpressed to see reality. The result of the news is the product of the process of interaction anddialectics. There are two aspects to framing that, First; pick facts, second; write down facts. Keywords: Framing Analysis, Newspaper Frame, Impact of News

This article explores frame building in Scottish television coverage of the 2014 independence referendum. It uses content analysis of news and current affairs coverage and semi-structured interviews with broadcasters and their sources to explain how factors internal and external to the media may be specifically connected to the prominence of generic issue and game frames in the coverage. It argues that broadcasters’ perception of their role in this event and the powerful influence of political sources were factors that encouraged policy-focused coverage, while the journalistic routine of balance and media organizations’ perceptions of what would attract audiences favoured the strategic game frame.

The paper based on the content of the Facebook group Immigrants in EU and The Daily Mail publications discusses the issue of discursive construction of an immigrant image in media discourse. Using the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the authors claim that the image of an immigrant can be viewed as a discursive construct, and the main discursive strategies involved in its construction include the reference strategy and the prediction strategy. As a result of the analysis, the so called CDA-categories (topic blocks) underlying the formation of the immigrant figure, are identified and illustrated by the relevant examples, the need for further study of the social media discourse as part of critical discourse analysis is justified. The relevance of such study is due to the growing research interest in discursive construction of the immigrant figure in the media discourse, since it underpins the definition of discourse as a form of social practice, not only reflecting processes in the society, but also exerting a reciprocal effect on them. The use of both verbal and non-verbal means in the media texts under study reflects the intention of the authors of the messages to use all possible communication channels when constructing an immigrant’s image. The results show that the dichotomy of “friends and foes” is being formed and maintained by the British newspaper The Daily Mail, while the members of the Immigrants in EU group try to mitigate the conflict between immigrants and indigenous people.

This article is devoted to the analysis of the cognitive and pragmatic factors of food representation in media discourse, as well as the peculiarities of the linguistic means of this representation. The study used the methodology of cognitive semantics and discourse analysis, including the method of cognitive modeling, the method of discourse analysis, the method of pragmalinguistic analysis, observation and description techniques. Cognitive and pragmatic aspects of food representation, in our opinion, belong to the extra-linguistic components of discourse. Filling the components of the cognitive model with certain content by means of linguistic units leads to the realization of the pragmatic goal of the journalist. For example, the component CHARACTERISTICS OF THE OBJECT (FOOD) through the media text is filled with information about color, composition, presence of additives, etc., which allows the reader to form a certain attitude towards food, which is discussed in the article.

The article is intended to compare and analyze the media discourse in the editorials of two daily English newspapers of Pakistan in the context of one of the most controversial antiterrorist operation which is named as the Osama Bin Laden (OBL) operation. For this purpose editorials of two leading English newspapers of Pakistan i.e., Dawn and The News were selected from 3rd May, 2011, to 26th August, 2011. Moreover, the current study employed the method of critical discourse analysis and has also studied the theoretical notion of agenda setting and framing. Results reveal that The News used very strong, rather harsh vocabulary during the editorial coverage of OBL operation. Whereas, Dawn adopted literary phrases and less harsh tone to cover OBL operation. Also, editorials of both the newspapers constructed similar frames such as “failure of military establishment” and “security lapse” throughout the coverage of OBL operation

The article is devoted to the study of precedent units with the source «ancient Greek mythology», which have the potential to broadcast the linguistic and cultural features of a particular community, the recognition of which influences the success of intercultural communication. The work provides a comprehensive analysis of the precedent units included in the cycle «The History of the Golden Fleece», namely «Argonauts», «Golden Fleece», «Jason» in the texts of Russian-language media. In the article the author argues that the change in the semantics of constructions occurs not only at the denotative, but also at the connotative, pragmatic level, where the studied precedent units acquire new semantic features. The analysis of the functioning features of the precedent units included in the «History of the Golden Fleece» cycle allows us to establish the linguistic mechanisms of their «deployment» in the media discourse and come to the conclusion about the specifics of the fragment of the worldview, fixed in mythologized precedent phenomena.

Academic blogs are an increasingly popular form of social media that allow scholars to enact public engagement. This chapter examines academic blogs as scholarship, blogs about scholarship, and blogs as a tool to generate scholarship. After reviewing key terms and processes related to blogging, a brief history of blogging is provided. Then three types of blog environments are reviewed: personal, topic-driven, and filter blogs. Next, five metaphors for academic blogs are considered: blogs as education, information, relationship, engagement, and scholarship. These metaphors illustrate the breadth of blog functions, specifically their use for research innovation, mobility, connection, and reflexivity as well as for educational possibilities. Blogging as a form of scholarship is then explored in depth, especially the use of blogs for content analysis, multiadic discourse analysis, forms of diary research, and arts-based approaches. Finally, two key tensions regarding blogs as scholarship are explored: how the expedience of blog scholarship comes into conflict with concerns about credibility and how the accessible language and approaches to blog writing come into conflict with a blog entry’s enduring popularity or appeal.

There has been a renewal of interest in the writing of national histories of sociology, with dozens of histories recently published in both the global North and South. Despite this, there has been a dearth of discussion about the methods and methodologies appropriate to such a task. Indeed, few histories of sociology, and fewer still national histories of sociology, explicitly address methodology. In this study, we review the literature on histories of sociology from a variety of countries, focusing on how the authors have approached the writing of history, and their implicit use of methods and methodologies. We suggest the use of a content analysis as an additional, though perhaps unusual, method of historiography, and apply this in the case of an Australian history of sociology. Our content analysis reveals both similarities and differences in the Australian approach, indicating the impact of settler-colonialism on Australian sociology and its historiography.

Our discussions are anchored in a Foulcauldian Discourse Analysis in order to understand how the connection to a set of historical relations, subjected to an order that stipulates what can be said and what should be silenced, allows the statement to promote a link to certain identity/identities.Keywords: Media.
