The article addresses the description of technological approaches used to create distributed information systems for supporting scientific research. We describe the developed architectural solutions which are intended to create such systems and the principles for integrating of these systems with the external sources. The functional requirements for the model of such an information system are determined. These requirements are determined, firstly, by the information needs of researchers, and secondly, by ensuring a reliable and long-term storage of information. The considered model of SIS is implemented in the form of a prototype of the Electronic Library Management System (ELMS IRIS). ELMS IRIS operates with electronic collections. The electronic collection is considered as a set of information objects, united on a semantic basis and having the same structure (data schema). An ELMS allows to work with two types of collections which are the catalogs and the thesauri. The rules of representation and transformation of metadata are discussed. In order to organize metadata exchange between repositories and a metadata server (as well as with other systems with an extended profile), a special service is created that converts metadata from the internal schema into other metadata schemes. The OAI-PMH service is implemented, which periodically synchronizes the metadata of the repository and the metadata server in accordance with the schedule in batch mode. To fill the “Main metadata catalog”, in accordance with the metadata schemas created, managed dictionaries are used from the reference support block. To ensure data interoperability, the application server based on ZooPARK-ZS is also implemented, which provides access to system metadata via Z39.50 and SRW/SRU protocols. The developed model can be used as a model of the system for working with documents related to scientific and educational activities, since it solves the main tasks for these systems which are to provide a system for reliable long-term storage of digital (electronic) documents while preserving all the semantic and functional characteristics of source documents as well as ensuring “transparent” search and access of users to documents. These actions are necessary both for familiarization and for the analysis of the facts contained therein; and organization of collection of information on remote digital repositories supporting protocols OAI-PMH, SRW/SRU, Z39.50.

Information, especially its automated processing, is still an important factor in improving the efficiency of any organization. Distributed information systems (IS, ISs) differ from conventional ISs in architectural and infrastructural principles, as well as in the geographic location with integration into one information cluster. One of the examples of distributed information systems is the infrastructure of the Google search engine - more than 2,000 servers, with server bases in almost every country in the world, which allows achieving a minimum delay in sending and receiving client requests. A distributed information system can have a large number of different databases, both local and remote, with which constant data synchronization is required, while maintaining a backup copy of previous data in case of failures and emergency stops. Distributed information systems are highly reliable and require multi-level protection of the cluster from unauthorized access, adherence to the principles of data synchronization, which differ from a conventional information system. Within the framework of this paper, synchronization processes are investigated using mathematical and computational tools, creating an environment for distributed information systems. It is advisable to use the results of the work to coordinate the operation of components of multi-agent systems for various purposes, transmit messages between agents, build communication protocols, and provide conditions for self-organization of multi-agent systems.

In building cooperative distributed information systems, a methodology for analysis, design and implementation of security requirements of involved data and processes is essential for obtaining mutual trust between cooperating organizations. Moreover, when the information system is built as a cooperative set of e-services, security is related to the type of data, to the sensitivity context of the cooperative processes and to the security characteristics of the communication paradigms. This paper presents a methodology to build a trusted cooperative environment, where data sensitivity parameters and security requirements of processes are taken into account. The phases are illustrated and a reference example is presented in a cooperative information system and e-applications. An architecture for trusted exchange of data in cooperative information system is proposed. The requirements analysis phase is presented in detail.

Management of complex distributed systems, at present, is carried out using information systems designed to collect and manage a large amount of heterogeneous information of an organization or institution. The technical component of such information systems is itself a complex distributed system, and information about the location and mutual arrangement of its individual components, as well as the location of the associated infrastructure and main users, is essential for its high-quality functioning. A method of spatial data mining that suggested in this paper, proposed for formalizing the process of creating specialized databases for the implementation (creation) of individual subsystems as part of complex distributed information systems. The results of the application of this method for the construction of one of the subsystems, namely, the subsystem of information support for the management of the technical component of the information system, as part of a complex distributed information system, are presented on the example of the geoinformation system of the Ufa State Aviation Technical University. The proposed approach to intelligent analysis and representation of spatial data, consisting in a formalized description of various thematic data applied to solving specific problems of information management support in complex distributed systems, can be applied to the construction of complex information systems in significantly distributed organizational and infrastructure.

Distributed information systems that support scientific and educational activities can work with various information systems. The main goal of creating a distributed information system supporting scientific and educational activities is to accelerate the pace and improve the quality of information exchange in the scientific environment. The paper considers technological methods for constructing models of information systems designed to support scientific and educational activities. The model under consideration is that the developed model of an information system for working with scientific materials should solve the problems of long-term storage of information, organizing data search by attributes, accumulating and replacing metadata. Based on the analysis of typical scenarios of information servers, the tasks that should be solved when organizing an access control system for distributed information resources are formulated. Within the framework of this technology, three access control models are discussed, which differ in the degree of integration of information server functions with the Z39.50 technologies. The creation and support of distributed information systems and electronic libraries that integrate heterogeneous information resources and operate in various software and hardware environments require special approaches to managing these systems. If the resources or data themselves can be managed locally, even for distributed information systems, then the task of managing access to distributed resources cannot be solved within the framework of local administration. The justification of the last thesis can be seen when considering typical scenarios of the information server, which we will describe below
