This article deals primarily with the problem of determining the cutting force when machining hardened steels. Secondary issues are focused on the evaluation of surface quality on machined samples and the recommendation of cutting conditions. A wide variety of components are used in engineering, the final heat treatment of which is hardening. These components are usually critical in a particular product. The quality of these components determines the correct functioning of the entire technical equipment and ultimately its service life. In our case, these are the core parts of thrust bearings, specifically the rolling elements. The subject of the experiment is machining these components in the hardened state with cubic boron nitride tools and continuous measurement of the cutting force using a dynamometer. The following evaluation assesses the surface quality by both touch and non-touch methods. A structural equation with appropriate constant and exponents was then constructed from the data obtained using the dynamometer.

This article discusses the issue of hardened steel machining. Many components in the engineering industry use hardening as the final heat treatment. These components usually occupy a significant position in a given assembly unit. They guarantee the correct operation of the entire technical equipment in total cooperation with other components. The quality of these components depends on the integrity of their surface. The production of these parts is usually carried out by traditional technological procedures. Clearly, an example of such a technology is grinding. However, this article discusses the application of other finishing technologies using a tool material made of cubic boron nitride (CBN). The technology used is finishing turning with subsequent tumbling technology. The subject of the evaluation is the integrity of the surface. In this part of the experiments, there are mainly individual parameters of surface roughness. Compared components are bearing rings, in this case the inner surface of the housing ring.

Analysis of the machined surface is one of the major issues in machining operations. On the other hand, investigating about the variations of cutting forces in machining operation has great importance. Since variations of cutting forces affect the surface quality of machined workpiece, therefore, analysis of the correlation between cutting forces and surface roughness of machined workpiece is very important. In this paper, we employ fractal analysis in order to investigate about the complex structure of cutting forces and relate them to the surface quality of machined workpiece. The experiments have been conducted in different conditions that were selected based on cutting depths, type of cutting tool (serrated versus. square end mills) and machining conditions (wet and dry machining). The result of analysis showed that among all comparisons, we could only see the correlation between complex structure of cutting force and the surface roughness of machined workpiece in case of using serrated end mill in wet machining condition. The employed methodology in this research can be widely applied to other types of machining operations to analyze the effect of variations of different parameters on variability of cutting forces and surface roughness of machined workpiece and then investigate about their correlation.

This research paper focuses on grinding of materials used for tools (100Cr6 (CSN 4 14109), X210Cr12 ( CSN 4 19436) and epoxy resin) using grinding wheels from cubic boron nitride and diamond. The disadvantage of grinding of difficult-to-machine materials is higher wear of grinding wheels. The modern grinding wheels are able to achieve high accuracy of dimensions and high surface quality with a smaller wear of grinding wheels then grinding wheels from conventional materials. Correctly selected technological conditions are one of the most important matters to achieve the required surface quality. The main aim of this research is to determine the influence of technological conditions to quality of surface after planar grinding. The research determines the influence of the grain type of grinding wheels, feed rate and cutting depth on the quality of functional surfaces.

Analysis of the surface quality of workpiece is one of the major works in machining operations. Variations of cutting force is an important factor that highly affects the quality of machined workpiece during operation. Therefore, investigating about the variations of cutting forces is very important in machining operation. In this paper, we employ fractal analysis in order to investigate the relation between complex structure of cutting force and surface roughness of machined surface in end milling operation. We run the machining operation in different conditions in which cutting depths, type of cutting tool (serrated versus square end mills) and machining conditions (wet and dry machining) change. Based on the obtained results, we observed the relation between complexity of cutting force and surface roughness of generated surface of machined workpiece due to engagement with the flute surface of end mill, in case of using square end mill in dry machining condition, and also in case of using serrated end mill in wet machining condition. The fractal approach that was employed in this research can be potentially examined in case of other machining operations in order to investigate the possible relation between complex structure of cutting force and surface quality of machined workpiece.

This research was conducted to investigate the characteristics of electrodeposited diamond core drills when used to cut CFRP.An eccentric core drill was usedto improve cutting characteristics. First of all, the cutting characteristics of a normal core drill were investigated at a few different feed rates and compared with those of a diamond coated twist drill. The effect of air assistance on chip evacuation were also investigated. The cutting forces, surface roughness profile of the hole, and tool appearance were used for evaluation. At the same feed rate, more cutting force was necessary for the normal core drill than for the twist drill. When air was blown in, the cutting forces required by the core drill decreased drastically, but delamination was evident. When air was drawn out, the cutting forces of the normal core drill were almost the same as when there was no air assistance. On the other hand, when an eccentric core drill was used, the cutting force required was lower when air was drawn out than when it was blown in. Additionally, the surface quality of the hole when air was drawn out was greater than when it was blown in. When the eccentric core drill with slits was used while air was drawn out, the cutting forces, surface quality of the hole, and tool appearance were the same as when an eccentric core drill without slits was used. However, there was little core jamming. Therefore, the eccentric core drill with slits had the longest tool life.

The kinematic characteristics, grinding force, surface quality of workpiece surface, and wear of abrasive particles were studied by theoretical analysis and experimental study on the single cubic boron nitride abrasive particles under ultrasonic-assisted high-speed grinding. Under the condition of the same grinding parameters, the motion characteristics and the grinding forces of the two machining modes of general grinding and ultrasonic-assisted grinding are compared and analyzed. Research shows that the ultrasonic vibration is applied in the common external circular grinding on grinding particle movement characteristics changed obviously, grinding particle trajectory of variable length, cutting groove width wider, thereby improving the grinding efficiency and the grinding removal rate; ultrasonic assisted under high speed grinding, the grinding force is higher than that of common grinding force is small, efficiency of grinding under ultrasonic processing mode is much higher than ordinary grinding, the surface quality of the workpiece has improved markedly.

In order to improve the keyway broaching process and verify the feasibility of vibration-assisted broaching process, an experimental study on a novel hydraulic vibration assisted broaching (HVAB) system with double-valve electro-hydraulic exciter (DVEHE) is proposed in this paper. The performances of HVAB at different excitation frequencies were compared from three aspects: (a) the cutting force under the different vibration frequencies, (b) the surface roughness of the workpiece, and (c) the flank face wear of the tool. For precision on-line measurement of larger broaching forces, four piezoelectric sensors were fixed on the broaching machine. The experimental results show that HVAB can effectively improve the performance of the broaching process, approximately reduce the broaching force by as much as 9.7% compared to conventional broaching (CB) and improve the surface quality of workpiece. Some explanations are offered to support the observations.

The present paper reexamines the psychometric properties of the Quality Perception Questionnaire (QPQ), an Italian survey instrument measuring patients’ perceptions of the quality of a recent hospital admission experience, in a sample of 4400 patients (Mage = 56.42 years; SD = 19.71 years, 48.8% females). The 14-item survey measures four factors: satisfaction with medical doctors, nursing staff, auxiliary staff, and hospital structures. First, we tested two models using a confirmatory factor analysis (structural equation modeling): a four orthogonal factor and a four oblique factor model. The SEM fit indices and the χ² difference suggested the acceptance of the second model. We then did a simulation using a bootstrap with 1000 replications. Results confirmed the four oblique factor solution. Third, we tested whether there were significant differences with respect to age or sex. The multivariate general linear model showed no significant differences in the factors with respect to sex or age.
