<p>An application of biochar to the intensive weathered soils potentially can change physical and chemical properties of the soils, improved soil function and increased yield of crops. A meta-analyses evaluation showed a significant correlation between biochar and plants productivity,  that means there are benefits of biochar application to the soils on plants productivities, that was increased 10%.This experiment was used Randomized Completed Block Design with 8 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments are: contr), 20 ton biochar ha<sup>-1</sup>, 40 ton biochar ha<sup>-1</sup>, 50 ton biochar ha<sup>-1</sup>, 60 ton biochar ha<sup>-1</sup>, 10 ton biochar + 10 ton poultry litter ha<sup>-1</sup>, 20 ton biochar + 20 ton poultry litter ha<sup>-1</sup>, 30 ton biochar + 30 ton poultry litter ha<sup>-1</sup>.  The results showed biochar 20 ton ha<sup>-1</sup> could increase significantly of plant heigh, number of punicles per clump, and the weight dried straw per clump. Whereas, application combination 20-30 ton biochar ha<sup>-1</sup> + 20-30 ton poultry litter ha<sup>-1</sup> could increase amount of tillers per clump, amound of punicles per clump, and weight dried straw (total biomass) per clump significantly.</p>

Organic farming is one of the management strategies that improve productivity of marginal uplands. The study aimed to: (1) evaluate effects of various organic-based fertilizers on the growth and yield of corn; (2) determine the appropriate combination for optimum yield; and (3) assess changes on the soil physical and chemical properties. Experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design, with 3 replications and 7 treatments, namely; T0=(0-0-0); T1=1t ha-1 Evans + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T2=t ha-1 Wellgrow + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T3=15t ha-1 chicken dung; T4=10t ha-1 chicken dung + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T5=15t ha-1 Vermicast; and T6=10t ha-1 Vermicast + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1. Application of organic-based fertilizers with or without inorganic fertilizers promoted growth of corn than the control. But due to high infestation of corn silk beetle(Monolepta bifasciata Horns), its grain yield was greatly affected. In the second cropping, except for Evans, any of these fertilizers applied alone or combined with 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1 appeared appropriate in increasing corn earyield. Soil physical and chemical properties changed with addition of organic fertilizers. While bulk density decreased irrespective of treatments, pH, total N, available P and exchangeable K generally increased more with chicken dung application.

This study was conducted to determine the effect bokashi fertilizer on the growth and yield of pepper plants, soil physical and chemical properties as well as the optimum dose of fertilizer bokashi.  The design used in this experiment is a randomized block design (RAK) to the single factor pattern consisting of five treatments, namely: B0: 0 tonnes ha-1, B1: 5 tonnes ha-1, B2: 10 ton ha-1, B3: 15 ton ha-1 and B4: 20 tonnes ha-1. The variables were observed in this study is was a high plant (cm), a number of leaves tan-1 (strands), leaf area (cm2), fresh weight of fruit tan-1 (g tan-1) and ha-1 (ton ha-1 ), the soil volume weight (bulk density) (g cm-3), total soil pore space (%), total soil N, P-available land, available K-land, C-organic soil and soil pH. The results showed a significant influence on the variable crop growth and yield of pepper plants. Bokashi fertilizer application also provides improved physical and chemical properties of soil. Bokashi fertilizer use 20 tonnes ha-1 is the optimum dose that increases the weight of fresh chilli ha-1 as much as 26.63 tons.

<p>Peat is used in olive-tree nurseries as a component in commercial growing media. Environmental and economic pressures are questioning the use of peat as a component of substrates. In order to remain competitive and to satisfy environmental concerns, it is necessary to identify and evaluate possible alternatives to peat. This study involves the use of <em>Azolla filiculoides</em>, as a growing media component in olive nurseries (<em>Olea europaea</em> L.) for containerized plants. Four treatments were established, based on the addition of increasing quantities of Azolla (0%, 25%, 50%, and 100 %). Were determined some physical and chemical properties of media, the growth, the physiological parameters and nutritional state of olive plants. The physical and chemical properties of the media were significantly affected by the Azolla content. Nursery-produced olive plants grown in substrates supplemented by 50 % Azolla displayed linear growth and the total biomass production greater than those of the control medium. The research indicated that Azolla might be suitable substrate component for olive plants grown in containers.</p>

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pectin and sucrose on the physical and chemical properties of marmalade citrus of calamondin and get the best treatment combination on making marmalade made from calamondin. This study used Randomized Block Design with 2 different factors. The first factor is the addition of pectin that is the level 1.75%, 2%, and 2.25%. While the second factor is the concentration of sucrose is 75%, 85%, and 95%. Each treatment was repeated 3 times to obtain 27 units of experiment. The process of making marmalade using heating time for 20 minutes at 70oC. The analyzes include viscosity, ability to spread of jam, moisture content, pH, and total dissolved solids. The analysis was conducted at Agricultural Technology Laboratory of Bengkulu University. The results showed that marmalade with the use of pectin 2.25% and 95% sucrose resulted the optimal in viscosity, ability to spread of jam, and total dissolved solids. For the results of moisture content and optimal pH obtained at the use of pectin 1.75% and 75% sucrose.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui perubahan sifat fisika dan kimia tanah pada lahan kering akibat perlakuan bahan organik dan kapur dolomit. Metode yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak kelompok (RAK) faktorial dengan 2 (dua) faktor yang terdiri dari kapur dolomit pada taraf 0 ton/ha, 0,8 ton/ha dan 1,6 ton/ha, dan bahan organik pada taraf 0 ton/ha, 6 ton/ha dan 12 ton/ha dengan 3 (tiga) kali pengulangan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pada perlakuan bahan organik mampu memperbaiki sifat fisika dan kimia tanah dimana stabilitas agregat, porositas total, C-organik dan pori drainase cepat menjadi meningkat serta mampu menurunkan bulk density dibandingkan dengan tanpa perlakuan bahan organik.CHANGES IN PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL ON DRY LAND DUE TO ORGANIC MATERIALS AND DOLOMIT LIMEAbstract. This research was conducted to determine changes in physical and chemical properties of soil on dry land due to the application of organic matter and dolomite lime. This study used  factorial randomized block design (RAK) consisting of 2 (two) factors, namely dolomite lime at levels 0, 0.8 and 1.6 tons/ha, while organic matter at levels 0, 6, and 12 tons/ha. with 3 (three) repetitions. The results showed that the organic matter treatment was able to improve the physical and chemical properties of the soil in which the total porosity, aggregate stability, fast drainage pores and organic C were increased and were able to decrease the bulk density compared to without the addition of organic matter.

To study the effect of different nutrient management practices on different soil physical and chemical properties in the permanent manurial experiment field of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, which was established during 1982 at Agriculture Research Station, Kovilpatti. Soil physical and chemical properties are mainly affected by the continuous application of fertilizers or manures from years together. To study the above mentioned properties of soil the soil samples were collected from the permanent manurial experiment of kovilpatti where the Randomized Block Design (RBD) was followed with nine different treatments viz., T1- Control; T2- 100 % RDF (40:20:40 NPK kg ha-1); T3- 50% RDF (20:10:20 NPK kg ha-1); T4- 50% N (Crop residues); T5- 50 % N (FYM); T6- 50 % Inorganic N+ 50% organic N (crop residues) + P (50%) + K (50%) ; T7- 50 % Inorganic N+ 50% organic N (FYM) + P (50%) + K (50%); T8- 100 % RDF + 25 kg ZnSO4 ha-1; T9- FYM - 12.5 t ha-1. The effect of these treatments along with the depth (0-15 cm; 15-30 cm and 30-45 cm) was compared. The treatment receiving organics viz., T9- FYM - 12.5 t ha-1 was observed to be the best in all the physical and chemical properties which was then followed by INM viz.,  T7- 50 % Inorganic N+ 50% organic N (FYM) + P (50%) + K (50%) and T6- 50 % Inorganic N+ 50% organic N (crop residues) + P (50%) + K (50%).

Abstract The objective of this study was to determine the effects of composted poultry litter (CPL) on the physical and chemical properties of a loamy sand soil. To accomplish this, a loamy sand soil, amended with 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% by volume with CPL, was placed in 3.8-liter (#1) container for 13 weeks. Substrate pH increased with increasing rates of CPL. For most landscape plants, pH was in the recommended range (5.5 ≤ pH ≤ 6.5) at 10% to 30% CPL incorporation. Cation exchange capacity, available P, exchangeable K, Ca, and Mg increased linearly with increasing rates of CPL. The 20% amendment rate raised the available P, exchangeable K, Ca, and Mg to levels within the recommended range for landscape plants (N.C. Dept, of Agr.). Total porosity and unavailable water increased linearly with increasing rate of CPL amendment from 42% to 55.5% and 4% to 30.2%, respectively. Bulk density decreased linearly with increasing CPL concentration. Water content and available water capacity increased with increasing CPL rates. CPL amended soil had a 100% to 116% increase in available water capacity, compared to unamended soil. Amending soil with CPL reduced air space 3% to 36% with the largest decrease occurring between 20% and 30% CPL. This data supports the use of composted poultry litter to improve the chemical and physical properties of a loamy sand soil.
