An Integrated Methodology to Maximize Production Through a Holistic Structured Framework Construction for ESP Outages

Abstract Many considerations are taken into account to ensure production targets are met for fields lifted by Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP). ESP outages are indeed one of the major operational disturbances that significantly impact production strategies. Hence, a holistic structured framework for ESP outages has to be constructed to prevent or curtail ESP outages by capturing each of the planned and unplanned shutdowns effortlessly, comprehensively and effectively. It should, in fact, consider all parameters and relevant data that aid to better understand such outages; this would include root cause analysis, affected systems, and the production impact. It should also capture all required statistics while generating needed illustrative visuals for advanced analytics to identify the overall impact of ESP outages in a particular oil field. The outcome of the framework should be presented in the form of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess the ESP performance. Using the ESP outages framework will ensure capturing all related data and result in fruitful output using advanced statistical tools. This will clearly highlight both deficiencies and improvements for each area related to the operator companies or the service providers. Then, efforts will be made to assign timely corrective actions for fields that lag in performance while exerting efforts to improve underperforming service providers. This framework introduces a continuous tracking mechanism of ESP performance associated to outages through comprehensive KPIs. It has the ability to highlight the bad actors within the operator companies or the service providers and logical recommendations to address them. As a result, the number of outages (trips) and restoration time will be minimized which will lead to reducing the impact of revenue loss caused by the ESP production disruptions. In this structure, novel KPIs specifically focusing on ESP outages will be described in detail. Also, an integrated prototype of the ESP outages framework will be presented to demonstarte its effectiveness without further complicating other related process workflows.

Abstract PETRONAS had embarked on an ambitious thru tubing ESP journey in 2016 and had installed global first truly rig less offshore Thru Tubing ESP (TTESP) in 2017. To replicate the success of the first installation, TTESP's were installed in Field – T. However, all these three TTESP's failed to produce fluids to surface. This paper provides the complete details of the troubleshooting exercise that was done to find the cause of failure in these wells. The 3 TTESP's in Field – T were installed as per procedure and was ready to be commissioned. However, during the commissioning, it was noticed that the discharge pressure of the ESP did not build-up and the TTESP's tripped due to high temperature after 15 – 30 mins of operation. Hence none of the 3 TTESP's could be successfully commissioned. Considering the strategic importance of TTESP's in PETRONAS's artificial lift plans, detailed troubleshooting exercise was done to find the root cause of failure to produce in these three wells. This troubleshooting exercise included diesel bull heading which gave some key pump performance related data. The three TTESP's installed in Field – T were of size 2.72" and had the potential to produce an average 1500 BLPD at 80% water cut. The TTESP deployment was fully rigless and was installed using 0.8" ESP power cable. The ESP and the cable was hung-off from the surface using a hanger – spool system. The entire system is complex, and the installation procedure needs to be proper to ensure a successful installation. The vast amount of data gathered during the commissioning and troubleshooting exercise was used for determining the failure reason and included preparation of static and dynamic well ESP model. After detailed technical investigative work, the team believes to have found the root cause of the issue which explains the data obtained during commission and troubleshooting phase. The detailed troubleshooting workflow and actual data obtained will be presented in this paper. A comprehensive list of lessons learnt will also be presented which includes very important aspects that needs to be considered during the design and installation of TTESP. The remedial plan is finalized and will be executed during next available weather window. The key benefit of a TTESP installation is its low cost which is 20% – 30% of a rig-based ESP workover in offshore. Hence it is expected that TTESP installations will pick-up globally and it's important for any operator to fully understand the TTESP systems and the potential pain points. PETRONAS has been a pioneer in TTESP field, and this paper will provide details on the learning curve during the TTESP journey.

Persons outside the medical care establishment also need to work with medical service providers to set standards of performance, competence and excellence.

Ahdeb is one of the Iraqi oil fields, its crude characterized by medium API (22.5-28.9) and highly reservoir pressure depletion from Khasib formation due to lack of water drive. This makes it difficult to produce economic oil rates. Therefore, many water injection wells were drilled by the operators to maintain the reservoir pressure during production. In addition to that, electrical submersible pumps (ESP) were used in some productive wells. This study suggests exploitation of gas associated with oil production to be recycled to lift oil as a substitute for the ESP .The work in this study includes using PIPSIM software to build a model of four studied productive wells (AD1-11-2H, AD2-15-2H, AD4-13-3H, A4-19-1H) after choosing the suited correlation for each well. According to the statistical results, Mukherjee & Brill correlation is the best option for all wells. The use of PIPESIM software include determining artificial lift performance to determine the optimum amount of gas injected, optimum injection pressure as well as the optimum injection depth and knowing the impact of these factors on production, as well as the determination of the optimal injection conditions when water cut changes. According to the current circumstances of the wells, the depth optimized for injection is the maximum allowable depth of injection which is deeper than the packer by 100 ft and the amount of injection gas is (1.5, 1, 1, and 1) MMscf/day for wells (AD2-11-2H, AD2-15-2H, AD4-13-3H, and AD4-19-2H) sequentially and injection pressure (2050, 2050, 2050, and 2000) psi for wells (AD2-11-2H, AD2-15-2H, AD4-13-3H, and AD4-19-2H) sequentially.

AbstractDue to resolving major technological challenges Additive Manufacturing (AM) is on the brink of industrialization. In order to operate capital-intensive AM equipment in an economically viable manner, service providers must configure their production environment in a way which enables high capacity utilization and short throughput times while minimizing work in process. The interrelation of those three mentioned production-related key performance indicators, also known as the scheduling dilemma, must be addressed with due consideration of the technology’s characteristics. Within the framework of this paper the authors describe the impact of a service provider’s facility configuration regarding machine pool, operator availability and distribution of work content on the production system’s utilization. The evaluations rely on a simulation model developed in Matlab®, which allows for modification and execution of production schedules within AM facilities of different configurations. The validation of the proposed model is based on empirical data gathered on the shopfloor of GKN Additive, a global AM service provider.

Abstract Background Evidence of the impact of public reporting of healthcare performance on quality improvement is not yet sufficient to draw conclusions with certainty, despite the important policy implications. This study explored the impact of implementing public reporting of performance indicators of long-term care facilities in Canada. The objective was to analyse whether improvements can be observed in performance measures after publication. Methods We considered 16 performance indicators in long-term care in Canada, 8 of which are publicly reported at a facility level, while the other 8 are privately reported. We analysed data from the Continuing Care Reporting System managed by the Canadian Institute for Health Information and based on information collection with RAI-MDS 2.0 © between the fiscal years 2011 and 2018. A multilevel model was developed to analyse time trends, before and after publication, which started in 2015. The analysis was also stratified by key sample characteristics, such as the facilities' jurisdiction, size, urban or rural location and performance prior to publication. Results Data from 1087 long-term care facilities were included. Among the 8 publicly reported indicators, the trend in the period after publication did not change significantly in 5 cases, improved in 2 cases and worsened in 1 case. Among the 8 privately reported indicators, no change was observed in 7, and worsening in 1 indicator. The stratification of the data suggests that for those indicators that were already improving prior to public reporting, there was either no change in trend or there was a decrease in the rate of improvement after publication. For those indicators that showed a worsening trend prior to public reporting, the contrary was observed. Conclusions Our findings suggest public reporting of performance data can support change. The trends of performance indicators prior to publication appear to have an impact on whether further change will occur after publication. Key messages Public reporting is likely one of the factors affecting change in performance in long-term care facilities. Public reporting of performance measures in long-term care facilities may support improvements in particular in cases where improvement was not observed before publication.

In recent years, short-term rental platforms in the lodging sector, including Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway, have received extensive attention and emerged as potentially alternative suppliers of services traditionally provided by established commercial accommodation providers, that is, hotels. Short-term rentals have dramatically increased the available supply of rooms for visitors to multiple international destinations, potentially siphoning demand away from hotels to short-term rental businesses. In a competitive market, an increase in supply with constant demand would negatively influence incumbent service providers. In this article, we examine the substitution effects of short-term rental supply on hotel performance in different cities around the world. Specifically, we comprehensively investigate the substitution effects of short-term rental supply on hotel performance based on hotel class, location type, and region. Furthermore, we segment the short-term rental supply based on its types of accommodations, that is, shared rooms, private rooms, and entire homes, and both examine and quantify the differential effects of these types of short-term rentals on different types of hotels. This study offers a comprehensive analysis regarding the impact of multiple short-term rental platforms on hotel performance and offers both conceptual and practical insights regarding the nature and extent of the effects that were identified.

Technology-facilitated abuse can be a serious form of domestic violence. Little is known about the relationship between technology-facilitated abuse and other types of domestic violence, or the impact technology-facilitated abuse has on survivors. The aim of this interpretative descriptive study is to understand domestic violence specialist service providers’ perspectives on the impact of technology-facilitated abuse, and the link between technology-facilitated abuse and other forms of domestic violence. A qualitative approach using 15 semi-structured interviews were undertaken with Australian domestic violence specialist practitioners, and three themes were identified through data coding using inductive thematic analysis. Another form of control describes technology-facilitated abuse behaviors as enacting controlling behaviors using new mediums. Amplifies level of fear characterizes the impact of technology-facilitated abuse. A powerful tool to engage others describes opportunities technology offers perpetrators to abuse through engaging others. Findings highlight technology-facilitated abuse’s complexity and integral role in domestic violence and can assist clinicians to understand the impact and harm that can result from technology-facilitated abuse.
