Abstract Background: Patient-centred healthcare is important, and patient experiences are considered a central pillar of quality in healthcare. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS®) is an instrument used to quantitatively evaluate patient perspectives. This study's objective was to conduct the translation and adaptation of the HCAHPS® into Japanese and to determine the validity and reliability of the translated version.Methods: We translated the original English HCAPHS® into Japanese based on standardized guidelines. The content validity was assessed by an expert panel of eight members and 12 discharged patients. The discharged patients assessed the face validity. We assessed the average of all raters’ evaluations at the item level (I-CVI and I-FVI) and the scale level (S-CVI and S-FVI). We evaluated each item and the entire questionnaire, with cut-off points of 0.78 for the I-CVI and I-FVI and 0.9 for the S-CVI and S-FVI.Results: Regarding the content validity, the S-CVI was 0.99, and the I-CVIs for the individual items ranged from 0.95 to 1.0. Regarding the face validity, the I-FVIs of all items except for Q26 were 0.78 or higher. The S-FVIs were 0.96 for clarity and 0.98 for comprehension. The expert panel reviewed the translated Japanese version of the HCAHPS and modified it based on the patient raters' feedback.Conclusions: The translated HCAHPS® content is well adapted to the local context. Until now, there has been no standard instrument to measure the perspectives of hospitalized patients in Japan. The translated HCAHPS® is expected to have utility for measuring the quality of health indicators.Trial registration:No applicable.

Background: Patient feedback is an important tool in assessing health system quality. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) was developed in 2006 as a standardized instrument to assess patient perceptions in the United States of America. This study aimed to translate and validate the HCAHPS questionnaire into the Malay language in order to assess patient perceptions of health services in Malaysia. Methods: The original HCAPHS in English was translated into Malay based on the established guideline. The content validation involved an expert panel of 10 members, including patients. The face validation pilot testing of the HCAHPS-Malay version was conducted among 10 discharged patients. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) used principal axis factor, and varimax rotation was established based on a cross-sectional study conducted among 200 discharged patients from Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (Hospital USM). Results: The overall content validity index was 0.87, and the universal face validity index was 0.82. From the EFA, the factor loading value ranged from 0.652 to 0.961 within nine domains. The internal consistency reliability with Cronbach’s alpha was 0.844. Conclusion: The HCAHPS-Malay is a reliable and valid tool to determine patients’ perception of healthcare services among inpatients in Hospital USM based on the content and face validation result together with a good construct validity and excellent absolute reliability. Further testing on HCAHPS-Malay version in other settings in Malaysia needs to be done for cross-validation.

This study was conducted with the aim of developing The Text Evaluation Scale for Child Rights. There are fourdifferent sample chosen for the face validity, content validity and construct validity (for pilot scheme and main study)of the study. For face validity, a sample group of 3 experts chosen with the method of purposeful sampling includingthe researcher was formed. For content validity, snowball method was determined and studied with 12 experts. Forthe study of construct validity, random sampling method was performed for the sample selection in pilot studyinvolving 120 people and in main study involving 510 people.The theoretical framework of the scale was determined by means of the attempts, conventions, studies regarding thesubject basing upon the United Nations Organization Child Rights Convention and additional protocols to thisconvention. One could get minimum 40 and maximum 200 points from the five-point Likert scale which consists of28 positive and 12 negative (total 40) items. The scale has two sub-dimensions which are content and author. Thefact that Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient is high regarding the sub-dimensions of the scale (authorsub-dimension= 0,822 content sub-dimension= 0,834) shows that the items in the sub-dimensions are consistent withone another. Cronbach Alpha value for the whole of the scale was determined as 0,90 which means that the scale ishighly reliable. Besides, in the scale, there are items of which factor loading value is higher than 0,45. When validityand reliability results are examined, it can be seen that the scale could be utilized to evaluate the text in terms ofbeing suitable for the child rights.

Background: To investigate any subject, a scholar needs a suitable instrument to collect the required information with the utmost accuracy and the least amount of error. Therefore, this study aimed at designing and conducting a psychometric analysis of an assessment instrument for innovation capabilities of Medical Sciences Universities using the Cube Model Approach. Methods: This study began by searching in questionnaires in the fields of input and process, considering innovation outcomes. Accordingly, a preliminary questionnaire was developed, and in the second stage, to determine the validity of the designed instrument, the face validity, content validity, and construct validity of the instrument were approved, and in the third stage, using Cronbach's alpha, its reliability was assessed. At first 200 phrases were obtained, finally, 25 questions were initially approved in three areas of structure (input), innovation processes, and output. All the phrases were retained in the face validity and content validity carried out quantitatively and qualitatively. Results: Exploratory Factor Analysis was performed on 25 items, and finally the terms were set in six factors. These factors explained 53.19% of the total variance. The rotated factor loading for all questions was obtained more than 0.3, and therefore, no questions were eliminated. Calculation of the Cronbach's alpha coefficient confirmed the high internal consistency of the questionnaire (0.762). Conclusion: This instrument was designed for the first time in the context of Iranian academic culture and seems to be a suitable instrument for the assessment of innovation capabilities, considering its adequate validity and reliability, simplicity, and practicality.

Objectives. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) is a well-established and internationally recognized scale for measuring patient experience with hospital inpatient care. This study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the HCAHPS and to examine its structural validity, criterion-related validity, and internal consistency reliability. Design. Multicenter cross-sectional study. Setting. A total of 48 hospitals in Japan. Participants. Patients aged ≥ 16 years who were discharged from the participating hospitals. Results. We translated the HCAHPS into Japanese according to the guidelines. Psychometric properties were examined using data from 6,522 patients. A confirmatory factor analysis showed excellent goodness of fit of the same factor structure as that of the original HCAHPS, with the following composites: communication with nurses, communication with doctors, responsiveness of hospital staff, hospital environment, communication about medicines, and discharge information. All hospital-level Pearson correlation coefficients between the Japanese HCAHPS composites and overall hospital rating exceeded the criteria. Results of inter-item correlations indicated adequate internal consistency reliability. Conclusions. We developed the Japanese HCAHPS, and evaluated its structural validity, criterion-related validity, and internal consistency reliability. This scale could be used for quality improvement based on the assessment of patient experience with hospital care and for health services research in Japan.

Objective: To determine face, content, and construct validity, and internal consistency of ROL scale. Methods and Findings: A three-phase study was conducted. First, content analysis of the scale was carried out consulting 10 professional experts. Then, face validity was analyzed with 60 caregivers. Finally, construct validity was evaluated by performing an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with 110 participants. Internal consistency of ROL scale was also assessed. Face validity of ROL scale reached a high acceptance index in three dimensions: role performance (0.97), role organization (0.98), and response to the role (0.98). Content validity showed coherence, clarity, and relevance of the scale. From factor analysis, three components emerged and were grouped in the same manner for varimax, quartimax, and equimax rotations. Cronbach's alpha was 0.816, which is an acceptable overall value. Conclusion: ROL scale makes objective the concept of role taking in family caregivers of people with chronic disease. It demonstrated to have acceptable reliability, and construct, face, and content validity to be used in the Colombian context. There is much literature on visual literacy across different fields of knowledge. Even so, generally there is a gap of literature that deals with measuring mathematical visual literacy skills. The objective of this paper is to produce empirical data on reliability and validity of mathematical visual literacy skills instrument. The development of items was based on the skills outlined Avgerinou’s VL Index (2007. The early stage in validating the instrument required researchers to seek face validity and content validity from panels of experts. Face validity was based on subjective judgements of the items. Meanwhile, content validity was determined by Content Validity Index (CVI) which is computed using Item-CVI (I-CVI) and Scale-CVI (S-CVI). Each mathematical visual literacy skills had accepted S-CVI values ranging from 0.86 to 1.00 but items with low I-CVI values were deleted. Next, construct validity and reliability was determined by using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Cronbach’s alpha respectively. The instrument, consisting of 43 items was assessed on 428 pre-university students. Students’ responses were scored using analytical rubric developed by researchers. Using Principal Component Axis (PCA) and varimax rotation, EFA was carried out where 40 retaining items were extracted to 7 factors, representing each visual literacy skills. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) of 0.721, significant Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity (BTS), communalities anti images ranging between 0.308-0.721 and 0.503-0.835 respectively, 7 extracted factors explaining 53.685% of the total variance, factor loadings of ±0.520 and more, and overall Cronbach’s alphas of instrument recorded at 0.82, explained the complete validity and reliability of the instrument.

Background/aimsTo develop, test and determine whether a surgical-competency assessment tool for simulated glaucoma surgery is valid.MethodsThe trabeculectomy ophthalmic simulated surgical competency assessment rubric (Sim-OSSCAR) was assessed for face and content validity with a large international group of expert eye surgeons. Cohorts of novice and competent surgeons were invited to perform anonymised simulation trabeculectomy surgery, which was marked using the Sim-OSSCAR in a masked fashion by a panel of four expert surgeons. Construct validity was assessed using a Wilcoxon rank-sum test. Krippendorff’s alpha was calculated for interobserver reliability.ResultsFor the Sim-OSSCAR for trabeculectomy, 58 of 67 surgeons (86.6%) either agreed or strongly agreed that the Sim-OSSCAR is an appropriate way to assess trainees’ surgical skill. Face validity was rated as 4.04 (out of 5.00). Fifty-seven of 71 surgeons (80.3%) either agreed or strongly agreed that the Sim-OSSCAR contents represented the surgical technique of surgical trabeculectomy. Content validity was rated as 4.00. Wilcoxon rank-sum test showed that competent surgeons perform better than novices (p=0.02). Interobserver reliability was rated >0.60 (Krippendorff’s alpha) in 19 of 20 steps of the Sim-OSSCAR.ConclusionThe Sim-OSSCAR for trabeculectomy, a newly developed and validated assessment tool for simulation glaucoma surgery, has validity and reliability. It has the potential to play a useful role in ophthalmic surgical education.
