Abstract BACKGROUND: Bronchial asthma among children is a common chronic disease which may have impact on quality of life. Health education is one of the strategy to improve knowledge and quality of life.OBJECTIVE: The study aims to assess the effect of health education via mobile application (app) in promoting quality of life among schoolchildren with asthma in urban Malaysia.METHODS: A quasi-experimental, pre- and post-intervention design was used in this study during the period September 2016 until April 2017 involving a total of 214 students, randomly assigned into two groups (intervention group and control group). The control group received face-to-face health education while the experimental group received health education via a mobile application.RESULTS: The findings showed that the total score of quality of life (QoL) has improved from a mean total score at pre-intervention (5.31±1.27) to post-intervention (5.66±1.28) for the control group, compared with the experimental group with a mean total score of QoL at pre-intervention (5.01±1.36) and post-intervention (5.85±1.29). A comparison between the experimental and control groups using an independent t-test showed statistically significant differences in their mean QoL scores. The effect of health education via mobile application showed a statistically significant improvement in the mean QoL score from pre- to post-intervention [F (1,288) = 57.46, p = <0.01].CONCLUSION: The use of mobile technology in health education improved QoL as compared to the traditional methods of face-to-face lecture and/or handbooks among schoolchildren with asthma. Thus, educational modules using mobile applications do improve QoL.

Thus, educational module using mobile apps improves HRQoL. Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common and chronic functional disorder, yet few studies have demonstrated the effects of IBS health education. Methods: This study was conducted at the gastrointestinal (GI) clinic of a hospital. A parallel-design control trial for IBS women, in which health education was implemented via individual instruction and the Self-Care Manual for IBS Women, was carried out. The questionnaire utilized in this study covered three areas, namely IBS symptom disturbance and frequency, quality of life, and days of drugs use. The intervention effects were assessed four weeks and eight weeks after the intervention and estimated using the GLMM model (generalized linear mixed model). Results: The experimental and control groups consisted of 31 and 30 participants, respectively. The assessment indicated that health education intervention had significantly reduced symptom frequency in the experimental group after four weeks (β = -2.60, P < 0.01) and after eight weeks (β = -3.30, P < 0.01); significantly reduced symptom disturbances after four weeks (β = -5.01, P < 0.01) and after eight weeks (β = -4.79, P < 0.01). Quality of life for both groups increased after eight weeks, with the experimental group experiencing a greater increase than the control group (β = 15.20, P > 0.05). Drug use decreased by an average of 6.23 days (P < 0.01) and 1.3 days (P > 0.05) in the experimental and control groups, respectively. Conclusions: IBS health education had a positive effect on symptom frequency and disturbance, quality of life and days of drug use.

Background: Music therapy as a scientific approach plays an important role in the treatment of some psychopaths. Therefore, the present study aims at investigating the effectiveness of music therapy on the quality of life and improvement of syndrome in women suffering from dysthymia. Methods: The research project was quasi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test and control group. All the women suffering from dysthymia who approached to psychological clinics of Yazd in 2018 contained the statistical population of the study. 30 of them were selected by purposive sampling method and were randomly categorized into experimental and control groups (15 persons). Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) were filled before and after intervention by people. Music therapy has been experimented on experimental group for 4 weeks and during 1 month. The findings were analyzed by SPSS-21 and covariance analysis. Results: Findings showed that the scores of subjects in the variables of life quality were significantly different from those in the variables of syndrome development and music therapy had a significant effect on quality of life and the improvement of syndrome among women in experimental group. Conclusion: As a result, participating in music therapy sessions could increase the level of life quality and syndrome improvement among women suffering from dysthymia.

Teaching materials by integrating local culture makes easier for students to understand the subject matter in the learning process. The aims of the study is to measure the effectiveness of teaching materials based on local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai in improving the students problem solving abilities. The research method was a quasi experimental which use non equivalent control group in the pretest posttest design. The sample of study were students of Senior High School grade X in Binjai that consisted of experiment group which used teaching materials based on local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai and control group that used student handbooks. Teaching materials are tested by material experts and technology experts to ensure the quality of teaching materials. Data collection was conducted through test. The results showed that the teaching materials based on local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai effective in improving students problem solving abilities in the experimental group students based on the results of N gain value was 0.67 which has medium criteria. It means teaching materials based on agricultural local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai can be used as one of the teaching materials in learning activities.

Aim of the present study was to examine the effect of yogic practices in managing libidinal impulses among adolescents and improving their quality of life. Experimental and control group design was used. Eighty samples were collected through accidental sampling (40 in experimental group and 40 in control group) from Mother Teresa Public School, Delhi. The students those who had high levels of libidinal impulses were selected. The age of the subjects ranged from 14-19 years. The students in the experimental group were made to do yogic practices regularly for 40 days. Libidinal Impulses Scale and PGI General Wellbeing Scale were used. The obtained values of t-test for Libidinal Impulses and General Wellbeing are significant at 0.01 level of confidence. The  result  of  the  study  shows  that  yogic practices  are  significantly  effective  in  reducing  the  levels  of  libidinal impulses  and  improve the level of quality of life of adolescents.

Objective: To determine the effects of Wii Fit exer-gaming on balance confidence, quality of life and fall risk in elderly population Methods: A double blinded randomized control was conducted at Kulsum International Hospital, Islamabad from July 31st to October 30th, 2018. Following screening, 90 subjects fulfilled inclusion criteria and gave consent to be part of trial. Subjects were randomly allocated into experimental and control group by concealed envelope method. After baseline assessment, experimental group received Wii fit gaming while controls received balance training for 30 minutes twice a week for 8 weeks. Activities balance confidence (ABC), Euro 5Q5L, timed up and go (TUG) and Fukuda were used as outcome measures. Data was analysed by SPSS 21. Results: ABC improved in experimental group from 76.47±3.69 to 86.53±3.99, and in control group from 77.51±3.01 to 82.70±2.78 with significance < 0.001. The components of Euro 5Q5L; mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, anxiety/depression have changed with intergroup significance of 0.05, 0.006, 0.595, <0.001, 0.001 respectively. TUG and Fukuda improved in experimental and control group as 15.73±2.30 to 12.02±1.40 and 16.24±1.75 to 13.68±1.58 with significance <0.001, and from 41.78±6.to 71 to 30.09±8.05 and 43.36±5.59 to 38.68±5.75 with significance <0.001 respectively. Conclusion: Wii fit improves balance confidence and quality of life reducing fall risk in elderly. Abstract Background: New protocols applied in the rehabilitation of Parkinson's disease enable different action strategies for health professionals, as well as a new range of activities for these individuals. However, no valid samba protocol with activity prescription for this population was found in the literature. Objective: To investigate the feasibility of a Brazilian samba protocol in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Twenty participants, mean age of 66.4±10.7 years, diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson 's disease, divided into: experimental group that received the intervention of Brazilian samba dance classes (10 individuals); and control group that maintained their routine activities (10 individuals). For data collection, a divided questionnaire was used: General Information; Disability stages scale; Balance and Quality of Life. Results: During class implementation, there were no falls, as all dance activities adhered to the details of the protocol steps without any changes. On average, patients completed 82.7% of activities. After 12 weeks, the experimental group had improvements in the UPDRS global score, in daily activities, and on motor examination. There was also improvement in balance scores and in the mobility domain of the quality of life in the experimental group. Conclusion: The samba protocol seems to be feasible and safe for patients with PD. Moreover, it has pleasant characteristics and offers sufficient physical benefits for combination with drug treatment. There were also benefits in social relationships and as a possible rehabilitation tool in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Abstract Background Anxiety is one of the common psychological problems among infertile women, which affects their quality of life. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of self-compassion intervention based on religious perspective on the anxiety and quality of life of infertile women. Methods A qusai-experimental design with experimental and control groups was used. 24 women who lived in Maybod city, Iran, and were referred to Yazd reproductive sciences institute selected by available sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The participants of experimental group received 8 sessions self-compassion focused intervention based on religious instructions and control group was put on the waiting list. Data were collected using Quality of Life Questionnaire in Infertile Couples Questionnaire (QOLICQ) and Beck anxiety inventory (BDI) in pretest and posttest phase and then analyzed using multivariate analysis covariance (MANCOVA). Results The results showed as compared to control group at the post-test phase, the quality of life (p< .001) and anxiety (p< .001) of infertile women increased and decreased, respectively, in the experimental group. Conclusion Infertility medical centers can use self-compassion intervention based on a religious approach as a complementary psychological intervention, alongside with medical interventions, to improve the quality of life and reduce anxiety in infertile women.
