Abstract Energy security and environmental measurements are incomplete without renewable energy therefore there is a dire need to explore new energy sources. Therefore, the aim of this study is to measure the wind power potential to generate the renewable hydrogen including its production and supply cost. We used first order eneginnering model and net present value to measure the levelized cost of wind generated renewable hydrogen by using the data source of Pakistan metorological department and State bank of Paksitan. Results shows that the use of surplus wind and renewable hydoregn energy for green economic production is suggested as an innovative project option for large-scale hydrogen use. The key annual running expenses for hydrogen are electricity and storage cost, which have a major impact on the costs of renwable hydrogen. Also, the results indicates that project has the potential to cut CO2 pollution by 139 million metric tons and raise revenue for wind power plants by 2998.52 million dollars. The renewable electrolyzer plants avoided CO2 at a rate of 24.9–36.9 $/ton under baseload service, relative to 44.3 $/ton for the benchmark. However, in the more practical mid-load situation, these plants have a significant benefit. Further, the wind generated renewable hydrogen deliver a 6–11% larger than annual rate of return than the standard CO2 catch plant due to their capacity to remain running and supply hydrogen to the consumer through periods of plentiful wind and heat. Also, the measured levelized output cost of hydrogen (LCOH) was 6.22$/kgH2 and for the PEC system, it was 8.43 $/kgH2. Finally, its mutually agreed consensus of the environmental scientist that integration of renewable energy is the way forward to increase energy security and environmental performance by ensuring uninterrupted clean and green energy. Further, this application has the potential to address Pakistan’s urgent issues of large-scale surplus wind and solar-generated energy, as well as rising enegry demand.

The exploitation of distributed renewable energy sources leads to a low-carbon energy transition, mainly based on the optimal integration of hydro, PV and wind power plants with the remaining high-performance fossil-fuel power stations. In the last twenty years, European Union (EU) countries have shown a significant increase of the power installed in new PV and wind power plants, together with the refurbishment of small and medium size hydro stations. In particular, in Italy, PV and wind energy production has strongly increased and nowadays there are regions characterized by a very green energy mix. In this new scenario, energy storage becomes a viable solution to mitigate the variability of renewable energy sources thus optimizing the network operation. The present paper is focused on the Liguria region, in the North of Italy and in particular on the Bormida Valley where nowadays more than the half of the annual electricity consumption is covered by the renewable energy local production. The paper describes the current energy situation and proposes an optimization tool to investigate the possibility of installing new PV and wind power plants, as well as energy intensive storage units based on sodium-sulphur batteries; moreover, different scenarios are analyzed through the definition of economic and environmental key performance indicators.

Energy is an essential part in life. Currently wind power is the most technologically mature industry in new energy industry, possessed with the most mechanized prospect. The development of Indian wind power industry has gained remarkable achievements, with its wind turbines manufacturing capability and total installation capacity ranking front among current undeveloped countries. Power plants can use wind turbines rather than steam to generate electricity. Being in use with a large scale, wind power can have a significant effect on the growing global need for more energy and efforts to stop climate change. Effective government support, active technological research and international development path are the basic motives to promote the prosperity of Indian wind power industry. With reference to experience from India, enforcing planning, regulation and support and cultivating self innovative ability should be direct countermeasures for our own wind power industry development.

The use of formal methods and artificial intelligence has made it possible to automatically design outdoor lighting. Quick design for large cities, in a matter of hours instead of weeks, and analysis of various optimization criteria enables to save energy and tune profit stream from lighting retrofit. Since outdoor lighting is of a large scale, having luminaires on every street in urban areas, and since it needs to be retrofitted every 10 to 15 years, choosing proper parameters and light sources leads to significant energy savings. This paper presents the concept and calculations of Levelized Cost of Electricity for outdoor lighting retrofit. It is understood as cost of energy savings, it is in the range from 23.06 to 54.64 EUR/MWh, based on real-world cases. This makes street and road lighting modernization process the best green “energy source” if compared with the 2018 Fraunhofer Institute cost of electricity renewable energy technologies ranking. This indicates that investment in lighting retrofit is more economically and ecologically viable than investment in new renewable energy sources.

Smoothing of wind generation variability is important for grid integration of large-scale wind power plants. One approach to achieving smoothing is aggregating wind generation from plants that have uncorrelated or negatively correlated wind speed. It is well known that the wind speed correlation on average decays with increasing distance between plants, but the correlations may not be explained by distance alone. In India, the wind speed diurnal cycle plays a significant role in explaining the hourly correlation of wind speed between location pairs. This creates an opportunity of “diurnal smoothing”. At a given separation distance the hourly wind speeds correlation is reduced for those pairs that have a difference of +/- 12 hours in local time of wind maximum. This effect is more prominent for location pairs separated by 200 km or more and where the amplitude of the diurnal cycle is more than about 0.5 m/s. “Diurnal smoothing” also has a positive impact on the aggregate wind predictability and forecast error. “Diurnal smoothing” could also be important for other regions with diurnal wind speed cycles.
