Abstract Analyzing the coupling relationship between biodiversity and environmental geology and exploring the factors affecting the coupling degree are of vital significance for the protection and restoration of the ecological environment. In this study, we selected five typical areas (i.e., Caohai, Chishui, Fanjingshan, Maolan, and Guanshanhu) to represent the whole Guizhou Province, China. Based on the coupling coordination degree model, we analyzed their coupling coordination trend. The results showed that the coordinated development stages of the Chishui and Fanjingshan areas both could be categorized as the synchronous development type of primary coordination because of their excellent nature conditions; the Maolan area was categorized as having restrained environmental geology because of its weak environmental geology condition; and the Guanshanhu and Weining areas were strongly affected by human activities, and both could be categorized as having restrained biodiversity. In combination with practical situation, Guizhou province can be categorized into the following three zones: an original ecological zone, a zone with fragile ecological environment, and a zone affected by human activities. Biodiversity conservation measures should be proposed according to the specific ecological situation of these different zones. In this way, the harmonious coexistence of economic development and the ecological environment can be realized.

Taking Xining City as the research area, the index system of coordinated development of urbanization and ecological environment in Xining City is constructed by combining qualitative and quantitative methods. The index and comprehensive index scores are obtained by using analytic hierarchy process and weighted summation method, and the coordination degree between urbanization and ecological environment in Xining City whose evolution trend is evaluated and analyzed is quantified by combining the coordination degree model. The results show that the urbanization level of Xining has been on the rise in the past 10 years from 2008 to 2017, and after the urbanization level of Xining has been improved, the eco-environmental quality index, although which has a characteristics of fluctuation, has been also on the rise as a whole. From the analysis of coordination degree, the coordination degree showed a downward trend year by year from 2008 to 2012, in which the coordination value in 2010, 2011 and 2012 were below 0.4, showing a moderate imbalance state; from 2013 to 2017, the coordination degree showed a rising trend year by year, and showed a relatively stable state.

It is of great value to provide sufficient food and energy, meanwhile ensure the sustainable use of resources and the good maintenance of ecological environment under the pressure of rapid population growth and rapid economic development. Therefore, a dynamic global network model of the global ecosystem is built in this paper. Seven elements are taken into consideration and regarded as the macro nodes. These nodes are connected by directed edges, representing the correlated relationships. Symbiosis theory is used to analyze the network model. The results show that the model can effectively measure the related internal coordination degree of subsystems.

(1) Background: Clarify the coordinated development level of production, living, and ecological spaces in the underdeveloped areas of China and their relationship with the intensity of human activity. Explore and address the problems that are likely to be faced when developing these areas and improve the quality of China’s new urbanization development. Promote the coordinated and sustainable development of the economy, society and ecology in underdeveloped areas. Guizhou Province is located in southwest China; the landform is broken and complex. Its economic development level is low. It is one of the representatives of underdeveloped areas in China. Therefore, Guizhou Province of China was selected as the study area. (2) Methods: This paper constructs the evaluation index system of the production–living–ecological space (PLES) functional system in China’s underdeveloped areas, and uses the coupling coordination degree model to measure the development coordination level of the study area. The human activity intensity model was used to calculate the human activity intensity in the study area. Response index is introduced to analyze the relationship between the spatial function coupling coordination degree and the intensity of human activities. (3) Results: Before 2015, the level of functional coupling coordination degree of production–living–ecological space (PLES) in the study area fluctuated, and after 2015, it showed a stable and coordinated development trend. The intensity of human activity continues to increase, and the interaction between human activity and local production–living–ecological space (PLES) function coupling coordination is intense. (4) Conclusions: human activity is a significant factor affecting regional, coordinated and sustainable development. In less developed areas, the impact of human activity is more obvious. Human activity, in combination with the theory of the human–land relationship and the moderate intensity of human activity, are important ways to improve the coordinated and sustainable development of underdeveloped regions.

As an important platform for participating in international competition and cooperation, supporting economic growth and promoting coordinated regional development, urban agglomeration plays an important role in China’s economic, social and urbanization development. At this time, the Guanzhong Plain urban agglomeration (GZPUA), as the second largest urban agglomeration in western China, has a moderate population density. The high demand and high input of resources for population growth make the regional ecological destruction and environmental pollution more prominent. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to study the coordinated development of urbanization and ecological environment in GZPUA. By using the panel data of the GZPUA of China between 2008 and 2017, this study constructed evaluation index system of new-type urbanization and ecological environment quality and calculated the weights of the indices within the evaluation system via the improved entropy weight method, finally determined the new-type urbanization and ecological environment quality of each city. Then the coupling coordination degree model was used to analyze the coupling coordination relationship between two systems of GZPUA and their coupling stages and levels. In addition, the driving mechanism of their coordination degree was explored by using geographic detector method. The results show that: 1) The GZPUA new-type urbanization quality is characterized by both slow growth except Xi’an by a rapid increase. The ecological environment quality is characterized by both slow growth and fluctuations, except Qingyang by a decrease. There are spatial differences between the quality of new-type urbanization and the quality of ecological environment. 2) The 11 cities can be divided into high-high type (Xi’an), high-low type (Xianyang, Yuncheng, Linfen), low-low type (Pingliang, Weinan), and low-high type (Shangluo, Tianshui, Qingyang), different types should take different development paths. 3) The coordination degree between urbanization and ecological environment quality in GZPUA showed an upward trend, and formed a spatial distribution pattern with Xi’an as the core and decreasing to the outer circle cities, with regional differences. 4) The coordinated development of new-type urbanization and ecological environment is a process in which various driving factors act on different driving forces. These driving forces can be summarized as market driving force, endogenous driving force, outward driving force and administrative driving force. Based on the current situation of coordinated development of new-type urbanization and ecological environment in the GZPUA, it is recommended to promote the coordinated development of urbanization and ecological environment according to local conditions, strengthen the urbanization market mechanism, and optimize the industrial layout. Further, guide the flow of various factors across regions, strengthen technological innovation on the basis of breaking regional divisions, narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, establish the concept of coordinated development, and give play to the government’s “visible hand” role.

Coordinated development of regional economy and ecological environment is one of the core issues of sustainable development practices. In this paper, the numerical parametric statistical method and geospatial analysis tools were used to analyze the spatial-temporal characteristics of coupling relationship between regional economy and ecological environment, the results show that:(1) The EKC of the regional economy and ecological environment is N-shaped, there exists co-integration relationship, but no granger causality between them. (2) The analysis of temporal characteristics shows that the index of economic curve increased relatively stable, since new century, it increases rapidly. The changes of the ecological environments index are relatively stable after it reaches a relative high level in 2005. (3) The spatial differences between regional economy and ecological environment show that all cities of Wanjiang City Belt have significant spatial variation characteristics. To be specific, the condition of regional economy and ecological environment in Hefei, Maanshan and Wuhu, etc. is better than Chizhou, Anqing and Xuancheng etc.

Based on the data relevant to China’s tourism industry and ecological environment from 2005 to 2018, the entropy method and the coupling coordination degree model were used to analyze the coupling degree and coupling coordination degree of the tourism industry’s development and the ecological environment, and the GM (1.1) gray model was used to predict these values in the future. The model provided predictions and illustrated the trend in the changes in the degree of coordination between the development of China’s tourism industry and the ecological environment for the next five years. The results show the following. (1) The coupling degree between China’s tourism industry and the ecological environment was between 0.3 and 0.5. It was in the low-level coupling stage in 2005 and 2006 and generally low in 2005–2009, lower than the average level of 0.4204. In 2018, the coupling degree between the development of China’s tourism industry and the ecological environment was mainly in a stage of antagonism, reaching a peak of 0.4998 in 2013. The coupling degree declined slightly from 2013 to 2015 and then began to show an upward trend again in 2016. (2) The average coupling coordination level of China’s tourism industry development and ecological environment was 0.4266, which is in the medium coupling coordination stage. From 2007 to 2013, it was mainly in the phase of moderate coupling and coordination and high coupling and coordination from 2014 to 2018. (3) From the prediction results, the coupling degree will enter the coupling degree running-in stage in 2021 and the extreme coordination stage in 2023, but the coupling growth level during the running-in period will be significantly lower than the coupling coordination degree. Coordinated development of the two systems will take a long time, and active economic policies need to be adopted to promote their coordinated development.

The rapid development of the tourism industry, range expansion, and intensity growth of human tourism activity have all caused intensifying ecological environmental problems while bringing considerable economic benefits. The ecological environment is currently faced with huge pressures due to the unreasonable tourism resource development, annual decrease in bearing capacity of the tourism environment, and excessive tourism consumption. To coordinate the relationship between tourism economic growth and ecological environment, this work carried out a case study based on Shandong Province, China. First, four aspects of environmental pollution caused by tourism were analyzed. Second, the tourism economy-ecological environmental coordination degree model and index system were established and then the coordination degree in Shandong Province from 2002 to 2019 was estimated. Results show that the tourism industry causes the following typical pollutions: water, soil, air, and noise. The coupling coordination degree (D) between the tourism economy and ecological environment in Shandong Province increased from 0.100 in 2002 to 0.995 in 2019, indicating the transition from serious imbalance to a high-quality coordination state. It is suggested to further promote tourism economy-ecological environment coordinated development by innovating the tourism-economy coupling development mode, creating the entire tourism industrial chain, increasing efforts in tourism reform, and exploring and implementing ecological compensation policies. Research conclusions have important significances to further study and explore the development status between the tourism industry and ecological environment and realize the coordinated development between the tourism industry and regional economy.
