Effect of combination and concentration of growth regulators on the regeneration of pepper plant from different explant tissues was studied. Seedlings were grown aseptically in 400 ml glass bottles containing MS agar medium at 26±2C under a 16 h·d-1 photoperiod (2000 lux, florescent lamps). Explants taken from 4 week-old seedlings were cultured under these conditions on 40 ml of MS agar (8 g·liter-1) medium containing 3 g·liter-1 sucrose in a 400 ml glass bottle. Primary and subsequent leaves attached to petiole regenerated better than cotyledon and hypocotyl. Among the combinations of different concentrations of cytokinin and auxin added in the medium, a combination of 5 μM IAA with either 10 μM zeatin or 10 μM BA gave the best regeneration. With these combinations, regeneration frequency of multiple shoots from the primary and subsequent leaves was greater than 70%. Regenerated shoots rooted readily in MS agar medium containing 3 g·liter-1 sucrose and 0.5 μM NAA.

MACUSSI, F.F.N.; VILLAS BÔAS, R.L MICRONUTRIENT CONCENTRATION IN THE BELL PEPPER PLANT DEVELOPMENT UNDER FERTIRRIGATION   2 ABSTRACT  This study aimed to determine the micronutrient contents (Fe, Zn, Mn, B and Cu) in different organs of Elisa bell pepper hybrid under fertirrigation in protected environment in eight harvesting seasons. The experiment was carried out in the Natural Resource Department – Soil Science, FCA, Botucatu. SP, and  consisted of 8 treatments (harvesting season – 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 140 days after seedling transplant), and 4 replications, each one composed of 4 plants. In each growth period the micronutrient content in the fruit, leaf, stem, root and  plant as a whole was determined. The fertilization in the study period i.e., 140 days, was performed by local fertirrigation. The results showed that the micronutrient levels found in the bell pepper plant followed the decreasing order: Fe>Zn>Mn> B>Cu. The tables present the Fe, Zn, Mn, B and Cu (Tukey Test at 5%) contents in each plant organ and in the entire plant at different evaluation periods. The charts show the Zn, Mn, B and Cu content variation.  KEYWORDS: fertirrigation, micronutrient concentration, bell pepper, Capsicum annuum L. and mineral nutrition.

Physio-chemical properties of hybrid chilies (Capsicum annuum L.), parental lines and commercial varieties were evaluated in three experiments and showed significant differences among them. Heterosis, and heterobeltiosis were studied in hybrids while, combining abilities were investigated in maintainers and restorers. Positive statistical differences in the general combining ability of the maintainer lines for vitamin C, capsaicin and Hue were observed and general combining ability indicated that, CA1286 and CA1303, were good maintainers for the improvement of capsaicin and vitamin C. The other maintainers;-, CA1441 and CA1442, are good for the improvement of L* and Chroma. The maintainer, CA1441, was better than CA1442 for capsaicin content,- while the maintainer, CA1442, was better than CA1441 for vitamin C. Positivity and statistically significant differences among the restorers were  observed  for vitamin C, capsaicin, Hue and Chroma  and  the lines;-, CA 1447, CA 1448, CA 1449, CA 1450 and CA 1451, were useful for the improvement of these  physio-chemical properties of chilies.

Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is an important food additive with high medicinal value. To investigate the effect of plant growth regulators on chili, seedlings of chili were collected from the local market and grown in the experimental field of the University of Barishal, Bangladesh. Foliar spray of different degrees of plant growth regulators, Gibberellin (50 mg/l, 100 mg/l, 250mg/l, 350 mg/l GA3) and Cytokinin (50 mg/l, 100 mg/l, 250mg/l, 350mg/l Kn) were applied from 15 days of germination. Data on different growth and yield parameters were collected and analyzed statistically. The result reveals that there is a significant difference in growth and yield related traits in chili due to the application of plant growth regulators. An optimum level of PGRs application shows better performance compare with control. Plant height particularly influenced by GA3 whereas other attributes like the number of leaves, branches, flowers and fruits are greatly influenced by the application of kinetin.

ABSORPTION COURSE OF MICRONUTRIENTS IN  BELL PEPPER PLANT  UNDER FERTIGATION IN PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT   2 ABSTRACT  This research aimed to determine the absorption course of micronutrients in bell pepper plants (Elisa hybrid) under fertigation using eight time periods of plant collection. At the end of the experiment the amount of absorbed and accumulated micronutrients by plants has been determined as well as the plant nutritional needs in each growth stage. The experiment was carried out at the Natural Resource Department – Soil Science at the Agricultural Science College, Botucatu campus, São Paulo state, Brazil. The treatments were eight time periods of plant collection (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, and 140 days after seedling transplant) and four repetitions, each one comprising four plants. The fertigation was performed through drip irrigation. The largest plant development and consequently the highest B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn nutritional needs occurred from 120 to 140 days after seedling transplant where the plant doubled the whole analyzed micronutrient extraction compared to the earlier period.  KEYWORDS: fertigation, bell pepper, Capsicum annuum L., drip irrigation and micronutrient absorption.

This research was conducted to analyze the effects of charcoal + NPK (charcoal combines with NPK) fertilizer on the yield of two pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) varieties: Jalapeno and Local. This research considered four treatment levels: control = no treatment, charcoal = 450 g plot-1, NPK = 112.5 g plot-1 and charcoal + NPK combination. The experimental plot size was 1.5 square meter. Treatments were replicated 8 times. Data collected on yield parameters were: Number of pods, pod weight, pod length and pod diameter. Data collections were done for three consecutive months. Data analyzed indicated that Local pepper performed better than Jalapeno for all treatments. The charcoal + NPK treated plots performed best than other treatments. For the Local pepper number of pods, charcoal + NPK applied plots had a mean of 16.79 million pods ha-1, NPK applied plots had a mean of 12.69 million pods ha-1, charcoal applied plots also had a mean of 7.20 million pods ha-1 while the control plots had a mean of 6.76 million pods ha-1 as an average means of pods harvested for the 3 months. For the Jalapeno pod weight, charcoal + NPK had a mean of 1.85 ton ha-1, NPK had 1.58 ton ha-1 as a mean, charcoal also had a mean of 1.05 ton ha-1 while the Control plots had 0.85 ton ha-1 as a mean for total pod weight.
