Examples from various harvest regimes, storage regimes, cultivars and different packaging methods are presented to characterize volatile ester differences after cutting and how changes occur in characteristic flavors throughout the postharvest life of certain cut fruit products. In many fresh-cut cantaloupe cultivars and in honeydew, there was a relative increase in nonacetates and coinciding relative decrease in acetates during storage. A similar and consistent nonacetate:acetate ester ratio was conserved in cantaloupe from eastern and western U.S. regions, as well as different cultivars from the same field. Furthermore, similar ratios were observed in many melon cultivars over multiple years from different seasons and growing regions. Since many cultivars exhibited similar trends in 2-year repeated studies, the trend is apparently independent of year and season. Fresh-cut `Gala' apples, on the other hand, displayed a slightly different trend whereby both acetates and nonacetate esters decreased appreciably during storage. The hypothesis is put forward that recycling of esters during storage in certain fresh-cut fruits disturbs the delicate fine balance of characteristic volatiles. Consistently decreasing acetates along with increasing nonacetates could alter the overall perceived desirable flavor attributes during fresh-cut melon storage, even though volatile esters are still abundant.

The Cloud storage is the most important issue today. This is due to a rapidly changing needs and a huge mass of varied and important data to back up. In this paper, we describe a work in progress and propose a flexible system architecture for data storage in the Cloud. This system is centered on the Data Manager module. This module provides various functions such as the dispersion of data in fragments, encryption and storage of fragments... etc. This architecture proves to be very relevant. It ensures consistency between different components. On the other hand, it ensures the security and availability of data.

The growth of phases by reactive diffusion in Mo-Si and W-Si systems are compared. The crystal structures of MSi2 and M5Si3 phases (M = Mo, W) are similar in these two systems. However, the diffusion rates of the components change systematically with a change in the atomic number. Integrated diffusion coefficients in both phases increase with an increasing atomic number of refractory elements i.e. from Mo to W. On the other hand, the ratio of diffusivities of the components decreases. This indicates a relative increase in the diffusion rates of the metal components with increasing atomic number and a difference in defects concentrations in these two systems.

Three cohorts of Danish male military recruits (n=1069) were studied for pharyngeal meningococcal carriage during 3 months at different seasons: 39–47% of entrants were meningococcal carriers and the carriage rate remained constant over time and season. However, individual changes in the carrier state occurred frequently, and after 3 months 34% had changed carrier state on one or more occasions. Initially, a loss of carriage predominated; on the other hand almost 20% of non-carriers had acquisition of meningococci within the first month. The serological phenotypes of the 670 carrier strains were compared with those of 261 invasive strains recovered concurrently from patients with meningococcal disease country-wide. Both carrier strains and invasive strains were phenotypically heterogeneous. Almost 60% of the invasive strains belonged to three phenotypes: B[ratio ]15[ratio ]P1.7, 16, C[ratio ]2a[ratio ]P1.2, 5 and C[ratio ]2b[ratio ]P1.2, 5. In contrast, these phenotypes only amounted to 3·2% of the carrier strains, among which no phenotype was found with a prevalence above 4·9%. However, 30% of the carrier strains had serological phenotypes identical to those of 80% of the invasive strains. Our results indicated that the transmission rate of potential pathogenic carrier strains did not differ from that of other carrier strains.

In a series of animals in which the thoracic duct had been tied it was found that the relative increase in the number of small lymphocytes in the circulating blood following the intraperitoneal administration of pilocarpine nitrate was the same as for the control animals. While support is brought for Harvey's view that pilocarpine causes a lymphocytosis through the contraction of plain muscle, on the other hand evidence is presented which indicates that the spleen is no more specialized in the production of small lymphocytes than any other portion of the lymphopoietic system.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this research is to learn the effect of shell color and storage length on egg quality. The research was held at the Animal Nutrion Laboratory Departement of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University. The treatments were shell color 30 SC (dark brown): 30-40 SC (white) with 10 replication and store in 27 0C and 10 0C for 35 days. The observation was taken every 7 days. Parameters measured were foam ability and Haugh Unit by group random sampling design with factorial pattern. The result shows that temperature and storage length significantly effect foam ability but not in haugh unit. Storage temperature and storage temperature at 10 0C show that foam ability is better with the average of 422.31 cm3. Compared to 27 0C with the average of 394.04 cm3. On the other hand shell color has no effect both on foam ability and Haugh Unit. In general, shell color, storage length and storage temperature have no effect on egg quality.

The aim of the research has been to identify the elasticity of process and product innovation expenditures, the number of inventions as well as the number of patents in terms of net revenues generated from the sales of new and significantly improved products in the Polish industry over the years 2015-2017. Furthermore, a focus was also placed on the determination of the marginal and average productivity of innovation expenditures, as well as that of inventions and patents as observed in the Polish industry within the above-indicated period. The calculated marginal and average productivity values of independent variables allow for an indication of the areas of their rational management in the Polish industry. The research shows that the elasticity of inventions is greater (0.403) than the process and product innovation expenditures (0.333). On the other hand, the second power regression performed points to the fact that the elasticity of process and product innovation expenditures is higher (0.420) than the patent expenditure (0.251) within the relative increase in net revenues generated from sales of new and significantly improved products in the industry in Poland. A hypothesis has been confirmed claiming that the elasticity of patents – be it at its lowest – does increase the level of flexibility of process and product innovation expenditures in the Polish industry. A quality verification of inventions and their distinction as intellectual and legal property in the category of patents leads to the effective use of process and product innovation outlays within the relative increase in the net revenues obtained from the sale of new and significantly improved products in the industry in Poland. The conducted research reveals a new perspective on inventions and patents. Although the number of patents may show less elasticity, patents were significant in increasing the efficiency of process and product innovation expenditures effectuated within the industry in Poland over the years 2015-2017

AbstractPackages, environment and storage periods effects in germination and vigor of cedar (Cedrela odorata) seeds in Manaus, AM. The seasonal dynamics of Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks was developed in dogs from a Police Unit in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, from July 2001 to July 2002. The study was carried out on seven naturally infested dogs (two English Cocker Spaniels and five mongrel dogs), with ages between six months and 10 years. Every two weeks, the numbers of feeding larvae, nymphs, and adults were determined. Dogs showing infestation levels above 500 adult ticks received three acaricide treatments. Considering that the treatments had affected the development of some peaking populations of ticks, it was inferred the occurrence of the following peaks: - larvae (four peaks): from August to November, from November to February, from March to May, and from May to July; - nymphs (five peaks): from July to September, from October to December, from December to February, from March to May, and from June to July; - adults (four peaks): from July to October, from October to January, from January to March, and from April to July. The occurrence of these consecutive peaks of activity of each stage of R. sanguineus may indicate that this tick can develop up to four generations per year in Goiânia. On the other hand, if the acaricide treatment did not interfere with the development of R. sanguineus peaks, more than four peaks of each stage have occurred on the dogs. In this case, it is acceptable to infer that more than one population of R. sanguineus was developing within the kennel concomitantly. The mean numbers of each tick stage was similar in the different seasons. The main attachment sites were located on the neck, chest, forelegs, armpits, ears, between toes and on the head. The number of adult ticks feeding on English Cocker Spaniel dogs was 1.4 to 11.5 times higher than that feeding on mongrel dogs.

The growth in the size of ships causes, in particular, a significant increase in demand for port surfaces and for the depths of water areas needed to serve ships in the ports. Due to technological changes in the transshipment and storage systems, and, on the other hand, due to the continuing pressure of developing cities, ports have increasingly rarely the adequate space reserves for their activities, and so currently they move towards the sea with their activities. The paper discusses the reasons for the phenomenon of expansion of ports towards the sea and its effects on maritime spatial planning.
