This paper seeks at investigating the critical determinants that affected the profitability of the commercial banks in Jordan by applying a balanced panel data set of these banks. So that it seeks to identify the significant bank-specific variables, by comprising 130 observations of thirteen banks over the years (2005-2014). A measurement of banks’ profitability is the return on assets (ROA) and the return on equity (ROE). The results indicate that the variables of capital adequacy, capital and leverage positively effect on the banks’ profitability, and the variable of assets quality negatively effects on the banks’ profitability. Results also indicate that rising bank’s profitability in Jordan is associated with well-capitalized banks, accompanied by high capital adequacy

This research is focusing on evaluation of the impact of credit risk on the profitability of selected commercial banks listed on National Stock Exchange. The financial ratios are taken as a proxy to evaluate credit risk and bank’s profitability. Profitability was measured through Return on Equity and Return on Assets whereas credit risk was measured by Pre-Provision Profit to Total Loans and Advances, Loan to Asset Ratio, Capital Adequacy Ratio, Credit to Deposit Ratio and Advances over Loan Funds. Based on the financial information of 2009 to 2017, the study concludes that Credit risk, as calculated from Pre-Provision Profit to Total Loans and Advances, Loan to Asset Ratio, Capital Adequacy Ratio, Credit to Deposit Ratio and Advances over Loan Funds have a non-significant relationship with profitability measured by Return on Assets whereas there is significant relationship exist only between Advances over Loan Funds and profitability measured by Return on Equity. The regression model of ROE shows the model is significant as compared to ROA model. The present study employed Auto Correlation and Durbin-Watson statistics, Unit root test & Multi-Collinearity tests to measure the robustness of time series data. Also the results of the regression analysis show that there exist a negative correlation between credit upon deposit ratio and return on equity. As per the current study, the Indian banks has to keep check on advances upon total funds ratio, as it was found most significant factor impacting the profitability of Indian banks.

Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs) epitomize the most significant source of financing in our economy. NBFI is highly levered in nature. This study tries to empirically identify how capital adequacy and leverage impact NBFIs’ performance in Bangladesh. A number of econometric models using panel data from 2009 to 2019 of 23 NBFIs of Bangladesh have been estimated to achieve the objective of this study. In this research, Return on Assets, Return on Equity and Tobin’s Q are used as a measure of NBFIs performance of Bangladesh. According to estimated result it has been found that capital adequacy has a positive effect on profitability of NBFI’s in Bangladesh. However, the research has found conflicting results when impact of leverage on NBFI performance is measured. Taking the empirical findings into consideration, the management of the NBFIs should embrace policies that are likely to help the NBFIs to maintain enough capital. Keywords: leverage, capital adequacy, NBFI performance, profitability, NBFI equity

This study attempts to identify the Bank Specific and Macro-economic Determinants of The United Arab Emirates Commercial Banks Profitability measured by Return on Assets, Return on Equity and Net Interest Margin. The study uses bank-specificand microeconomic factors as independentvariables. The bank-specific factors include bank size, capital adequacy, assets quality, liquidity, deposits, diversification ,business mix, and efficiency, while the macroeconomic factors include real Gross Domestic Product growth, Inflation Rate, and Real Interest Rate.Regression models were used to relate bank profitability ratios to the independent variables built on panel data for the period 2013-2019 of sixteen commercial banks operating in the United Arab Emirates. The results of the study show thatassetsize, liquidity, off-balance sheet activities, and diversification have significant impact on profitability as measured by theNet Interest Margin. In addition, loans under follow-up to total loans, and managerial efficiency are found to behighlysignificantvariables of profitability in the context of the United Arab Emirates commercial banks as measured by Return on Assets and Return on Equity. Furthermore, diversification has a significant impact on profitability as measured by Return on Assets. The remaining bank-specific factors (capital adequacy, loans to total assets, liquidity, deposits to assets ratio, and operating expenses to total assets ratio) and macroeconomic factors have no significant effect on bank profitability. The results of the study suggest that banks can improve their profitability through maintaining high operating income, decreasing the size of non-performing loans, full utilization of liquid assets, more concentration on the main activities, efficiently managing their operating expenses, and taking advantage of the Gross Domestic Productgrowth , inflation and Interest Rate changes to improve the banks performance and profitability. In addition, it is recommended to make further studies on the banks performance with an expanded scope which is tobe extended to other industries.

A strong capital adequacy ratio is crucial to a financial institution's success and helps it to survive any potential financial crisis. From Q1 2017 to Q4 2019, the influence of the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) on the performance of Commercial Islamic Banks in MENA nations (Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan) is examined. The performance measures utilized in this study are Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). The study's sample frame comprises all Islamic commercial banks in the designated MENA nations, with a sample size of 18 Islamic commercial banks. Panel data, fixed and random models, are applied in this study since there are multiple entities and time series. The findings of the study showed that the selected Islamic banks are committed to Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) which is defined under Basel III. This is considered the largest percentage regulated by the Basel Committee. The study also found that there is a statistically negative significant influence of CAR on both performance indicators ROE and ROA in the commercial Islamic banks in the selected MENA countries. The results of the study can be useful to a policymaker or decision-makers in the Islamic Banks industry. First, the research could be a reference to financial regulators such as central banks which may use the findings to provide regulation on optimal capital levels for local banks in terms of regulations, deregulations, and financial disruption. Next, the practice implications in the Islamic banking sector will provide them with insight as to how a bank’s capital influences its earnings. Hence, management can work towards attaining an optimal structure that maximizes their performance as well as identifying “best” and “worst” practices associated with capitalization levels.

This research examines the influence of CAR, inflation and GDP on ROA of Non-Foreign Exchange Sharia Commercial Banks in Indonesia. In the research period there were cases in the financial statements where CAR increased but ROA decreased, in addition when inflation decreased ROA also decreased and at the time of GDP rise ROA again decreased. The novelty of this research is a method of regression of panel data that has never been used in CAR, inflation and GDP together. This research is quantitative with a sample number of 4 Non-Foreign Exchange Sharia Commercial Banks. The findings in this study are that CAR, inflation and GDP have no partial effect on ROA. However, CAR, inflation, and GDP simultaneously affect ROA. The next research is expected to take variables other than CAR, inflation, and GDP that theoretically affect roa of Non-Foreign Exchange Sharia Commercial Banks in order to obtain a better roa model of Non-Foreign Exchange Sharia Commercial Banks compared to this study.

In this study, the factors affecting the performance of Jordanian commercial banks have been analyzed using the elements of the CAMELS model, along with identifying the most important factors. The study targeted the impact of twenty Jordanian commercial banks on performance-; these banks were listed on the Amman Stock Exchange during the period of 2014-2019. The researcher used the Data Pooled Regression Method, due to its relevance to the nature of the data used in the study, where this method is used in the case of a time series and cross-sectorial data. The Rate of Return on Assets and the Rate of Return on Equity were used as the two variables on which the banks’ performance was measured. However, the independent variables included the CAMELS model elements which are capital adequacy, asset quality, management efficiency, earnings, liquidity, and sensitivity to market risks, in addition to macroeconomic variables, which include the rate of economic growth and the rate of inflation. The study concluded that capital adequacy, asset quality, management efficiency, and earnings are among the most important and most influential factors with regards to the Jordanian commercial banks, which - are is represented by the Rate of Return on Assets and the Rate of Return on Equity. Moreover, the study also concluded that it is possible to derive a miniature model from the CAMELS model called the CAME model, which has a great ability to explain and measure the performance of commercial banks in Jordan. Finally, the study recommended the Central Bank of Jordan to use the CAMELS model to evaluate Jordanian commercial banks.

Liquidity management and its impact on the profitability of commercial banks are two issues of particular importance in the further development of the business and at the same time two sources of concern for financial managers. For this reason, this study aims to determine the impact of changes in liquidity levels on the profitability of commercial banks in Kosovo. The study is based on secondary data for nine commercial banks in Kosovo over 9 years, respectively for the period from 2011 to 2019, taken from the audited annual statements of these financial institutions. The study measures the relationship between liquidity management and profitability and its impact on profitability. In order to process the data, regression analysis and correlation were used, while the findings determine whether there is a significant relationship between liquidity management and profitability in commercial banks in Kosovo. The current ratio, the quick ratio, the cash ratio and the capital adequacy ratio have been taken as liquidity indicators, while return on assets and return on equity are considered as profitability indicators.
