During 2006 until 2007 there were plenty of songs that are lyrical about adultery or polygamy, in line also with the emergence of the phenomenon of polygamy and infidelity by some famous people ranging from businessmen, preachers, politicians, to academics. One of the most popular songs is a song titled “Jadikan Aku yang Kedua”. Surprisingly, although the title shows that this song legalized polygamy, the majority of listeners who request the song to be played in radio stations are women. The research reveals about the marginalization of women that is implicitly contained in a song lyrics. The research method used is critical discourse analysis with analytical techniques using the model of Norman Fairclough. This study uses substantive theoreticalframework such as hegemony, ideology, patriarchy, and feminism and the discourse analysis theory from Michael Foucault. The results showed that the Song is a discourse to marginalize women who occupy the first position, while for the second women or femme fatale, this song is empowering them. Song writer has the power to shape the ideology of consumer (listener) toward his patriarchal ideology. He wants to use his power to encourage the women to dare to become a femme fatale.

The morpho-syntactic and socio-pragmatic analysis of proverbs use on radio and T.V.: “Traditional priests of doom, if you wish for the destruction of a town, …” Agyekum (2000) and Wiafe-Akenten (2015) have observed an extensive use of proverbs in the media since the establishment of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1954. This paper therefore examines how these proverbs are used in radio and television programmes, especially in the Morning Shows and News broadcast in Akan. These programmes are socio-political, in which some of the issues discussed are very sensitive, delicate and inflammatory. The paper focuses on investigating how participants of these programmes employ proverbs in handling such difficult issues in their interactions, especially within this highly formal setting. Data for this study was sourced from Peace F.M., Adom F.M, GTV, UTV, (all in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana) Kessben F.M. (in the Ashanti Region of Ghana) and Ɔboɔba F.M. (in the Eastern Region of Ghana). Recordings of 6:00a.m, 12 noon and 6:00p.m. News from the radio stations and Television stations, and those of the Morning Shows from 6am-10am constituted the data for the study. Also, follow-up interviews were conducted after the recordings were transcribed for further analysis. The text and their context were discussed using Fairclough’s (1995 and 2012) and Fairclough & Wodak’s (1997) approach to Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The study specifically looked at the structural and lexical content of the proverbs, the motivation behind choice of certain proverbs and socio-pragmatic functions of the selected proverbs. Findings from the study showed that, some presenters and hosts of the programmes utilized proverbs as facesaving, mitigating and softening strategies. It was also concluded that majority of the politicians also employed the proverbs as indirectional strategies, escape routes, and evasive tools. They either removed or added their own words to strategically manipulate the proverbs to carry out and/or suit their intended message.

Kata kunci: ideologi, bahasa politik, analisis wacana kritis AbstractThe current study aims at: (1) to explore the ideology conceived in Soekarno’s political language as one of the nation founding fathers and the proclaimer of Indonesia independence, (2) to explore the motivations behind the birth of ideology in the language, and (3) to see the socio-cultural changes as the result of Soekarno’s political ideology. To achieve the research objectives, researcher used Critical Discourse Analysis Theory (CDA) of Fairclough (1989, 1995, 2005, 2006) as the main theory, and the theory of Ideology as a supporting theory. The results show that the ideology contained in Soekarno’s political language is the ideology of ‘unity as an important thing’, the ideology of ‘revolution as an integral part of the Indonesian nation soul’, and the ideology of ‘imperialism as the main enemy of the Indonesia’. To find out the ideology or the perspective of the media to the election, the writer analyzes the news text using critical discourse analysis theory of Norman Fairclough. Yet, the writer limits the analysis only on the description of the vocabulary, grammatical, and textual structure. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method, while the data is analyzed by using the equivalent method. The equivalent method is used to analyze the meaning of vocabulary, phrase, or sentences in the article. The data is collected by using deep-listening and note-taking techniques. The analysis result shows that Detiknews media online in “Panasnya Pilgub DKI: Ada Upaya Serius Ganjal Agus-Sylvi, Ada yang panik?” of 13 October 2016 uses vocabulary of expression to attract readers. Music like any other media provides a kind of discourse through which social aspects like gender identity of a particular related society can be co-constructed or deconstructed depending on the ideological perspective of the speaker/writer. This paper analyses Bongo Flava-song video ‘Niambie’ using multimodal critical discourse perspective so as to examine if the song involves co-construction or deconstruction of gender identity. Results show that gender identity in the song video is co-constructed in the sense that male gender is dominant over female gender alluding from patriarchal ideology through which men are supposed to dominate women in all life aspects.
