In one of the 13 October 2016 news, this Detiknews media online shows certain ideology to the 2017 Jakarta Governor Election. To find out the ideology or the perspective of the media to the election, the writer analyzes the news text using critical discourse analysis theory of Norman Fairclough. Yet, the writer limits the analysis only on the description of the vocabulary, grammatical, and textual structure. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method, while the data is analyzed by using the equivalent method. The equivalent method is used to analyze the meaning of vocabulary, phrase, or sentences in the article. The data is collected by using deep-listening and note-taking techniques. The analysis result shows that Detiknews media online in “Panasnya Pilgub DKI: Ada Upaya Serius Ganjal Agus-Sylvi, Ada yang panik?” of 13 October 2016 uses vocabulary of expression to attract readers. It also uses many active sentences. As in textual structure, the text has been affected situationally, socially, and institutionally.

The paper based on the content of the Facebook group Immigrants in EU and The Daily Mail publications discusses the issue of discursive construction of an immigrant image in media discourse. Using the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the authors claim that the image of an immigrant can be viewed as a discursive construct, and the main discursive strategies involved in its construction include the reference strategy and the prediction strategy. As a result of the analysis, the so called CDA-categories (topic blocks) underlying the formation of the immigrant figure, are identified and illustrated by the relevant examples, the need for further study of the social media discourse as part of critical discourse analysis is justified. The relevance of such study is due to the growing research interest in discursive construction of the immigrant figure in the media discourse, since it underpins the definition of discourse as a form of social practice, not only reflecting processes in the society, but also exerting a reciprocal effect on them. The use of both verbal and non-verbal means in the media texts under study reflects the intention of the authors of the messages to use all possible communication channels when constructing an immigrant’s image. The results show that the dichotomy of “friends and foes” is being formed and maintained by the British newspaper The Daily Mail, while the members of the Immigrants in EU group try to mitigate the conflict between immigrants and indigenous people.

Writing in the media, a journalist can create his/her own framing, to be in favor or bias. The framing created will show the subject, the object, the victim or the perpetrator of a case from the point of view of the journalist. This study focuses on the position of subject, object, reader, and the ideology in PRI media and The Sydney Morning Herald media in the case of Baiq Nuril Makmun. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method and analyzed by using discourse analysis framework of Sara Mills. The result of data analysis in the articles show that Jokowi and Nuril are mostly put as subject. On the other side, Nuril is also written as object. Furthermore, based on reader position, the authors mostly use pronoun ‘he’, ‘her’, and ‘she‘. By using third person pronoun, readers are in the position of outsiders which can follow the storyline objectively from both of subject and object position. The ideology of the articles show that a leader uphold justice and solve injustice case that is received by Nuril because she becomes a victim two times, of the immoral action and the violation of Electronic Information and Transactions law.

In the last couple of years the increasing cases of violence and terror appears to be the most common headlines in the media around the world.  Media platforms seem to use the news of violence and terror as their strategy to attract readers, in which some news appears to be provocative. The terms used in the media also tend to be exaggerative, which mostly beyond the actual context of the cases. Moreover, the media platforms appears to be trapped in Islamophobia attitude, as they tend to use the term ‘terror’ identical to cases of crimes perpetrated only by Muslims. The term ‘terror’ is hardly used in cases of crimes involving non-Muslims, instead the news platform will use such more neutral terms as ‘shooting’ and ‘stabbing.’ This article examines the connotative meaning of the different terminologies used to describe similar cases in the media headline. In the perspective to Critical Discourse Analysis theory, a discourse brought up by news headline is not merely word choices as it expresses more than just linguistic aspect. In fact, it shapes the way the readers portrayed the actual cases, while the terms used in the news headline appear to significantly contribute to the development of certain ideology brought by the media platforms.[Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, meningkatnya kasus kekerasan dan teror menjadi berita utama dan lumrah di media di seluruh dunia.

The researcher uses the three-dimensional framework by Norman Fairclough in analysing the data of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). In presenting and analyzing the data, the researchers used qualitative data analysis theory from Miles and Huberman (1994) in Gani (2011), consisting of data reduction, data display or representation, and conclusion drawing or verification. The result of this study shows that both the script of speeches from Nadiem Makarim and Muhadjir Effendy have micro, mezzo, and macro-level related to the framework of Norman Fairclough. The language used in both of the speeches is a standard language, but in the speech of Nadiem Makarim used more creative language that can touch the millennial generations, while in the speech of Muhadjir was the usual words that can make the audiences bored.

Abstract Two successive Japanese hostage cases in Iraq in April 2004, where hostage-takers demanded the withdrawal of the Self Defence Forces in return for release of the hostages, turned into a discussion about ‘self-responsibility’. This paper concentrates on an analysis of the discursive representation of ‘self-responsibility’. The aim is to explain how the media discourse on the hostage crisis and the hostages’ ‘self-responsibility’ is regulating and determining social structures with respect to which tasks self-responsibility has to take over, on the basis of the critical discourse analysis proposed by Norman Fairclough The argument is that the principle of self-responsibility has come to replace the hitherto valid responsibility of the state to protect its citizens. This is happening in favour of the newly emerging principle of not accepting terrorism and of fulfilling one’s duty as an international state.

ABSTRACT Purpose: The general objective is to critically analyze the ideologies and constructions of management ideology in the Internet blog called Geração de Valor (Generation of Value), behind the discourse of success. Originality/value: The pop-management phenomenon has been widespread in the Brazilian context. It leads individuals to look for formulas of excel and achieve success as entrepreneurs. One of the disseminators of this ideology has been Geração de Valor. This article innovates when dealing with thematic without prima donna behaviors or fanciful romanticism. Design/methodology/approach: This article aims to analyze texts available on Geração de Valor through critical discourse analysis (CDA). Findings: We conclude that the voice of the businessman and blogger Flávio Augusto da Silva is nothing more than one of several voices, including in administration, that seek to defend the cult of personal victory and disdain for the collectivist practices of social organization. This kind of analysis is still scarce in this field of study, as they require enriched readings of the text in terms of context and intertextuality. Critical analyses contradict hegemonic visions and sharpen the reader's critical sense. Also, they are useful in highlighting the cult following that Administration has been receiving by the media.
