Traditional involvement patterns in leisure-time physical activities may have changed with demographic shifts in American society. We analyzed a community survey of 401 Illinois adults to determine involvement in recreational activities by gender, age, race, and social class. Regression analyses reveal differences in participation in individual and team activities. These differences by demographic classification are explained by structural and normative influences.

Over a period of S years, 41 retarded children joined numerous kinds of ongoing leisure time activities at a community center. A followup study showed that 3/4 of them had done at least minimally well. Although leaders rated the social behavior of retarded members as significantly different from that of normal children in the same groups, differences were manageable and often diminished with continued exposure to normal children.

Leisure activities pursued during long range space missions should not be considered by planners as merely a way of filling in time. Current astronaut selection procedure tends to favor those who in leisure time in a spacecraft will spontaneously pursue mission-oriented activities, making the most of whatever facilities are available. With provision of an appropriate climate and opportunity, encouragement can be given to furtherance of the creative use of leisure for self-development of the persons involved. Provision should be made for both active recreation, as in hobbies, communal games, and even music making, and for passive enjoyment as in listening to recorded music and radio, watching television and movies, and reading. Provisision for exercise programs is also required.

ABSTRACT In recent years the visitation of Conservation Units for recreational purposes has become quite popular, something that can be noticed in Parque Estadual do Cocó (PEC). It is an urban park, located especially in the eastern part of the city of Fortaleza in the state of Ceará. Although designed to protect its natural resources and biodiversity, low impact recreational activities are possible. However, it is necessary to know if these activities are compatible with the resilience of the environment, as adverse impacts may occur due to site carrying capacity thresholds. From this observation, the present study intends to trace its visitor profile, identify the main recreational activities and evaluate the satisfaction levels with the social (leisure and recreation) and environmental (environmental quality) functions of the park. For this, a bibliographic research was made and 3 field visits were made and a form was applied with the park visitors. Results indicate that most visitors are young, aged 20-24 years. Keywords: Conservation Unit; Parque do Cocó; recreation; public use. In our article we deal with leisure activities and travel habits of 150 college students from Szolnok. We have analyzed the relationship between the frequencies of watching TV, that is: the time spent watching TV and doing sports. Furthermore, we have also investigated the frequencies of travels, and main motives of choosing travel destinations. We have found that college students have several hours of leisure time daily. Among the recreational activities, the ones that occurred predominantly are watching TV, doing sports, and travelling. It is interesting to note that the relationship between the frequency of watching TV and doing sports has not been significant while the relationship between watching TV occasionally and doing regular physical activity has turned out to be significant. Students who play sports for 1-2 hours a day spend significantly less time in front of the TV compared to their peers who do not do sports. 92% of the students travel at least once a year. The participants of youth tourism are quite price-conscious. In choosing travel destinations favorable prices play an important role.
