To assess the progressive teaching practicums included in an English Teaching Programme at a Chilean university, 60 former student-teachers answered a questionnaire with both Likert-scale and open-ended questions. The issues assessed included the relationship between the progressive teaching practicums and the curriculum’s modules and sequence, and the skills developed while implementing innovation projects during the student-teachers’ two final practicums. Quantitative and qualitative data analyses allowed us to identify both strengths and weaknesses. The participants highlighted strengths in the areas of teaching strategies, critical thinking skills and professional and pedagogical knowledge. Among the weaknesses, they identified limited supervision and feedback, and diverging views on teaching education between the university and the schools as the most difficult to deal with. These findings may be useful for introducing improvements in Initial Teacher Education aimed at reducing problems and discrepancies and devising suitable induction processes.

The integration of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in classrooms has been a challenge for the educational systems that aim to cope with the needs and the demands of the 21st century. The TPACK framework represents the knowledge needed by teachers bringing together content knowledge, technological knowledge and pedagogical knowledge with the aim of integrating ICTs into teaching-learning processes. The aim of this study is to determine the primary science teachers’ perceptions of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) addressing teachers’ perceptions of the affordances of technology application in instruction. A total of 133 prımary science teachers in Malaysia were surveyed (Female= 67, Male= 66). Data were collected through “Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge” (TPACK) scale. The questionnaire consisted of 47 questions about TPACK and is based on the survey instrument developed by Schmidt et al. (2009). TPACK involving the seven factors of technological knowledge (TK), pedagogical knowledge (PK), content knowledge (CK), technological content knowledge (TCK), technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK), pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), as well as synthesized knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and content (TPC). The findings indicate that primary science teachers perceive higher self-confidence in pedagogical knowledge in general. Further, no differences between science teachers’ perceptions according to thier gender, while there are diferences between the teachers perceptions of PK, CK, and PCK accordıng to their age

AbstractStudents undergo a demanding socialization process at the beginning of their practice, which they subjectively perceive. At the time of this socialization process, the process of knowledge sharing begins, and this process must include reflection on and explanation of new pedagogical experience if students are to establish suitable conditions for practice. Not only the training teacher but also others who form the so-called school culture may neglect to address new experiences and provide sufficient support. This research aimed to explore the effects of the school culture on a student’s career at the beginning of her teaching and pedagogical knowledge sharing. Based on the results of the analysis, we answered the following research question: “How does the school culture influence a student’s pedagogical knowledge sharing with her training teacher?” We found that the student’s subjective theories should correspond with the school culture; otherwise, the student may leave the profession earlier. In addition, support from colleagues and sufficient explanation (modelling of the teacher’s thoughts) in school practice create a space to share pedagogical knowledge and clarify the student’s doubts about education. We identified the teacher's career, the school culture, and the training teacher as sources of support for the education student. The data were collected via interviews with the use of the “clean language” method and analysed through open coding.

Abstract:It examines whether the perception of professional knowledge (disciplinary and pedagogical) of preschool teachers in Chile is associated with the level of knowledge they actually have. With this aim, two instruments of data collection were applied, previously validated. The first was a questionnaire designed on National Teacher Survey conducted by the Ministry of Education of Chile. The second one was the INICIA (Ministry of Education of Chile, 2013), applied annually to the pupils of nursery education. The results indicate that the level of technical and pedagogical knowledge of pre-school teachers is extremely low, which is exacerbated by a false perception of their level of disciplinary and pedagogical training. The findings suggest that the profession of nursery teachers in Chile has a great educational challenge ahead.
