Present study was conducted to evaluate the different levels of energy to protein ratios (EPR) using food waste and black soldier fly larvae meal (FWBSFL) on growth performance and nutrient digestibility of broilers. A total of 160 one-day old broiler chicks were divided randomly to four groups and each group had 8 replicates with 5 chicks per replicate. The control diet was formulated using conventional feed ingredients with EPR of 154 for the starter period and 167 for the finisher period. The other treatments were diets with normal, low, and high EPR (154,143, and 166 for the starter period; 167, 155, and 177 for the finisher period) using FWBSFL. Feed consumption and body weight gain as well as digestibility of crude protein, crude fiber, and fat were decreased due to feeding of FWBSFL diets. Different levels of EPR using FWBSFL decreased growth performance and nutrient digestibility of broilers.

The study was conducted in the poultry field in the Animal Production Department/ College of Agriculture and Forestry/ University of Mosul, for the period from 18/ 2/ 2020 until 13/ 4/ 2020. The experiment aimed to study the effect of replacement different levels of sesame meal (SSM) as a protein source to replace soybean meal (SBM) on the productive performance and reproductive of laying quail, 360 quail birds (240 females and 120 males) were used, at the age of 49 days, distributed randomly into five treatments, each treatment with eight replicates, ( 9 birds in each replicate 6 females and 3 males). The treatments were as follows: the first was the control (0% SSM), the second, third, fourth, and the fifth replaced SSM by SBM with level (25, 50, 75 and 100%) respectively, feed and water was ad libitum during the trial period of 8 weeks. The results of the statistical analysis showed there is a significant statistical difference at a level (P≤0.05) in the fifth treatment (100% SSM) as compared to control and other treatments in total egg number, average egg weight, total egg mass, Hen day egg production percentage (% HD), feed intake, feed conversion ratio, fertility, and hatching percentage of total eggs, average weight of hatched chicks, and a significant increase in the embryo mortality. The results also showed a significant decrease at a level (P≤0.05) in the feed intake for the fourth treatment (75% SSM) compared to the control, while no significant differences were observed for the other treatments in all the studied traits. The results of this study showed the possibility of using sesame meal as a protein source at (75%) to replace soybean meal in laying quail bird diets.

Five experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of rye level, ergot and penicillin on the utilization of rye by growing chicks. The effects of the following factors and/or treatments, respectively, were studied: increasing levels of rye replacing wheat in the diets for starting and finishing broiler chicks; ergot, pelleting and penicillin supplementation of rye diets; the cleaning of the beaks or vents of rye-fed chicks; and increasing levels of penicillin in rye diets containing different levels and types of protein supplements for Leghorn chicks. The results indicate that a diet containing 15% rye depressed the appetite and growth of young broiler chicks. Levels of rye higher than 15% in the diet depressed not only growth but also the efficiency of feed utilization in all chicks. The level of ergot in excess of three times that present in the uncleaned rye diet (0.11%) had no influence on chick performance. Wet excreta were produced by rye-fed but not by wheat-fed chicks. There was no relationship, however, between chick performance, and excreta "wetness," beak impaction and vent blockage. An improvement in chick performance was elicited by pelleting or penicillin supplementation of rye diets; the magnitude of the chick response to the latter treatment appeared to be influenced by the type and level of the dietary protein supplement. A dose-response study demonstrated that the maximum effective response to penicillin supplementation occurred when a rye–meat meal diet contained penicillin at or in excess of 160 mg/kg of diet; the corresponding maximum improvements in weight gain and the efficiency of feed utilization were 46 and 18%, respectively.
