Water and poverty interface in many different ways. Sustainable management (i.e. development, allocation and utilization) of water resources is therefore a process-element of sustainable human development. This paper looks into water-poverty interfaces as well as into approaches to, and tools of, managing water in such a manner that water sector activities can contribute to alleviation of poverty. It gives a southern perspective and includes a case study of the evolving water management regime in Bangladesh.

Continuously changing conditions of sociotechnical systems are the basis of structural changes in communities. Relationships between transition contexts and regime transformation processes and their driving factors in sociotechnical regimes are poorly understood. Moreover, not all changes in multilevel governance regimes are geared towards sustainability, as demonstrated by the case of the water management regime in Sanandaj county in the west of Iran between 1962 and 2018. The current study shows how the management regime of water resources in the case study has changed over time and identifies the institutional arrangements through a retrospective analysis. The analysis is based on three stages of data collection which included a discussion group, a Delphi survey, and a focus group survey among various types of stakeholders. The “Hybrid Transitions” framework is introduced in order to denote processes of regime change that take place in a range of different transition contexts. The findings do not identify a single transition pathway but show that a number of parallel transition pathways have occurred in the context of groundwater and surface water management and their respective institutional arrangements. The study provides a better understanding of the complexity of transition pathways that were devised at the management regime level.

The sustainable management of water resources requires the identification of procedures to optimize the use and management of resources that are able to deal adequately with the problems of an integrated water service. Taking cue from the classic problem of transport of operations research, this paper proposes a procedure to optimize the allocation of resources for water supply in an area. The transportation problem has been particularized to the case of water resources management considering water intake structures present in a territory as source nodes and utilities in the area as destination nodes. The variables to be determined are the quantity of water resources transferred from each source node to each destination node, in order to achieve a balance between the needs and availability, minimizing the costs of supply consequently necessary. The problem that is obtained, is a constrained non-linear type problem that can be used, for example, to solve local problems of supply, through the redefinition of the distribution system. An application of the model to the province of Croton in southern Italy is shown. The results obtained from the application of the model show the reliability of the methodology in applications similar to that of the case study.

Information technologies can act as technical artifacts and can facilitate stakeholder communication, supporting decision making in a complex societal context. The water sector is one such example where limited water resources are threatened by climate change and growing competition for resources between sectors, regions and countries. Attempts to improve water governance and management through information technologies have been made by international, regional and national water agencies for the last 20 years in Central Asia. However, early attempts were focused on collection, systematization and analysis of the generic data related to the water sector in the region. There are still significant gaps (technical, human and financial capacities) for application of such technologies at the lower operational levels of water management, i.e. where the full dimensions of variables, interactions and complexities are observed and, most importantly, everyday politics of water are performed. The aim of this paper is to present practical results on improving water management in Central Asia through the application of better data management tools at the operational level across diverse institutional settings, i.e. transboundary, watershed levels in the region.

Decision support water. Management (DSWM) is an approach to water development and water management, for the best water management framework. In the field of water management for watter storage, and preservation of land is very important criteria which is linked with various communities involvement, economical issues and environmental issues. DSWM. water resources needed extensive advance technology with reliable activity. For this purpose in this paper it need to analyse the various volume, quality and quantity parameters and other enhance model usage are adopted to maintain the effective water resource management.. Parameters collect the management tools for efficient management of water resources under varied local situations. In This paper discussed some of the analytical management techniques and development decision support water management system as a framework for decision makers to have reliable decisions for water management practises. This paper includes overall DSWM functions and their highlights to achieve the effective water management.

Agroindustries are major consumers of water. However, to adapt to environmental trends and be competitive in the market, they have sought rational use of water through water management in their activities. Cleaner Production can result in economic, environmental and social benefits, and in actions that promote reduction in water consumption. This case study was conducted in a slaughterhouse and poultry cold storage processing plant and aimed to identify points of excessive water consumption, and to propose alternatives for managing water resources by reducing consumption. Consumption data are presented in relation to the processing stages with alternatives proposed for the rational use of water, such as closure of mains water during shift changes. Following the implementation of recommendations, a reduction in water consumption of approximately 11,137 m³ per month was obtained, which equates to a savings of US$ 99,672 per year. From this study, it was concluded that the company under review could develop various improvement actions and make an important contribution to the preservation of water resources in the region where it operates.
