A part of a running research project directed to building coordinated polymers based on the rigid aromatic s-triazine, the researchers reported the synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of four new transition metal complexes derived from the nanosized diol monomer (H2L ligand) as early representatives of its nanosized o-naphthol-based polyester. The reaction of the new nanosized N2O2 donor diimine containing sulfone with zinc (II), copper (II), nickel (II) and cobalt (II) ions offered nonconducting metal complexes. The SEM image showed the diol monomer was organized as well-defined nanosized rod-like morphology. Spectroscopic and magnetic susceptibility studies displayed the tetrahedral geometries for Zn (II), Co (II) and Ni (II) complexes while the Cu (II) complex had square planar geometry. The antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities were in the order [Cu2L2].4H2O > [Zn2L2] > [Ni (HL)2] > [Co2L2] > H2L. Despite the ligand, [Cu2L2].4H2O, [Zn2L2] and [Co2L2] complexes displayed no efficacy against the screened microbes, only the tetrahedral Ni (II) complex exhibited moderate activity. The reporting complexes possessed several notable advantages that render them as promising alternatives for the development of therapeutic agents. Selection of the rigid O-substituted naphthol ring as a source of Odonor ligands is expected to construct high dimensional frameworks and more easily contributing and controlling metallic topology.

Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes of general composition ML2X2(M = Co(II), Ni(II); X = Cl−,NO3 −) were synthesized by the condensation of metal salts with semicarbazone/thiosemicarbazone derived from 2-acetyl coumarone. The ligands and metal complexes were characterized by NMR, elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, and atomic absorption spectral studies. On the basis of electronic, molar conductance and infrared spectral studies, the complexes were found to have square planar geometry. The Schiff bases and their metal complexes were tested for their antibacterial and antioxidant activities.

ABSTRACT New cyano bridged transition metal complexes, [Cu(detu)4Ni(CN)4]-2H2O (1) and [Zn(H2O)(detu)Ni(CN)4]-2H2O (2) (detu = N, N' diethyl thiourea) have been synthesised in powder form. Their structures were illuminated by using spectroscopic, thermal and elemental analysis techniques. The nickel atom exhibits square planar geometry in these complexes by coordinating with the cyano group's nitrogen atoms. The copper atom of 1 is six coordinated with two bridging cyano groups and four detu ligands. In contrast, the zinc atom of 2 is six coordinated with four bridging cyano groups, one detu ligand and one aqua ligand. In addition, the structure of 2 is formed from polymeric layers of |Zn-Ni(CN)41 „ with the detu and aqua ligands bonded to the zinc atom. Thermal stabilities and decomposition products of 1 and 2 were examined in the static air atmosphere between 30 and 900 °C. Keywords: btetracyanonickelate(II) complex, N,N'-diethyl thiourea, cyano-bridged complex, vibration spectra, thermal analysis.

New complexes of Pt(II) with condensation derivatives of ethyl hydrazinoacetate and either 2-acetylpyridine or 2-quinolinecarboxaldehyde, and of Pd(II) with the condensation derivative of ethyl hydrazinoacetate and 2-quinolinecarboxaldehyde were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy, and molar conductivity measurements. The complexes have a square planar geometry, ligands binding as bidentates in the neutral form, and the remaining two coordination sites being occupied by chloride ions. Biological activity of new complexes, and of previously synthesized Pd(II), Cd(II), Co(III) and Zn(II) complexes with this ligand type was evaluated by the brine shrimp test. All the complexes showed a moderate activity.

In order to elucidate specific properties of nickel sulfur complexes, redox and addition-elimination reactions of [Ni(′OS4')]2, [Ni(′NHS4')]2, [Ni(′S5')], [Ni('S4—C5')], and [Ni('S4—C3')] were investigated ('OS4′ 2' = 2,2'-bis(2-mercaptophenylthio)diethylether(2—), 'NHS4'2- = 2,2'-bis(2-mercaptophenylthio)diethylamine(2—), 'S5'2- = 2,2'-bis(2-mercaptophenylthio)diethylsulfide(2—), 'S4-C5'2- = 1,5-bis(2-mercaptophenylthio)pentane(2—), 'S4—C3'2- = 1,3-bis(2-mercaptophenylthio)propane(2—)).Cyclovoltammetry proves the complexes to be redox inactive between —1.4 and +0.8 V vs. NHE. Above +0.8 V the complexes are irreversibly oxidized, below —1,4 V desalkylation takes place and [Ni(′S,′)2]2- is formed. An X-ray structure analysis was carried out of (NMe4)2[Ni(′S2')2], which shows a planar anion with the Ni center in a nearly perfect square planar coordination. Distances and angles are practically identical to those in the [Ni(′S2')2-] monoanion. The complexes coordinate only phosphines as coligands, but thioether donors simultaneously decoordinate and, dependant of reaction temperature, mono- or trisphosphine complexes are formed. [Ni(′S4—C3')(PMe3)] was characterized by X-ray structure analysis and exhibits a square pyramidal coordination geometry.

Transition metal complexes of 5-bromosalicylidene-4-amino-3- mercapto-1,2,4-triazine-5-one with metal precursors, such as Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Pd(II), were synthesized and characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques. All the complexes are of the ML type. Based on analytical, spectral data and magnetic moments, the Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes were assigned octahedral geometries, while the Cu (II) and Pd(II) complexes square planar. A study on the catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol, cyclohexanol, cinnamyl alcohol, 2-propanol and 2- methyl-1-propanol was performed with N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMO) and molecular oxygen as co-oxidants. All the complexes and their parent organic moiety were screened for their biological activity on several pathogenic bacteria and were found to possess appreciable bactericidal properties.

The 1 : 1 complexes of chelating diphosphine, [2-{di(m-tolyl)phosphino}ethyl]diphenylphosphine (pmtpf), with nickel(II), palladium(II) and platinum(II) halides and thiocyanates and 2 : 1 complexes with nickel(II) perchlorates have been prepared. Ligand (pmtpf) forms low-spin square-planar and diamagnetic [M(pmtpf)X2](where X = Cl, Br, I or NCS; M = Ni, Pd or Pt) and [Ni(pmtpf)2]- (ClO4)2 complexes. Complexes of metal carbonyls having the general formula [(pmtpf)M(CO)4] (where M = Cr, Mo or W) have also been synthesized. These complexes have been characterized on the basis of element analysis, electronic, infrared and 1H N.M.R. spectral measurements, magnetic susceptibilities and electrical conductance data. In all cases studied this ligand acts as a chelating ditertiary phosphine.
