Limited resource of fossil fuel inspires many research activities to search for alternative energy. This work offers alternative solution to address this problem through charcoal gasification. The goal of this research is to find the amount of syngas produced in the gasification is process. The alternative fuel was produced from the mixing rice husk and low quality coal due to their abundant resource in South Kalimantan. The mixture was then gasified at 500 °C. The highest syngas volume at 29.56 L was in the sample of SP 200 gr and BB 0 then followed at 25.7 L for ratio SP 180 gr : BB 20 gr. The lowest produced syngas 19.45 was produced from the sample with ratio SP 100 gr : BB 100 gr. This gasification process also resulted in side product, i.e. tar component which varies from 22.5 mL to 58.75 mL.

Finding alternative energy sources for fossil fuels was a global matter of concern, especially in developing countries. Rice husk, an abundant biomass in Viet Nam, was used to partially replace fossil fuels by gasification process. The study was conducted on the pilot plant fixed bed up-draft gasifier with two kind of gasification agents, pure air and air-steam mixture. Mathematical modeling and computer simulations were also used to describe and optimize the gasification processes. Mathematical modeling was based on Computational Fluid Dynamics method and simulation was carried by using Ansys Fluent software. Changes in outlet composition of syngas components (CO, CO2, CH4, H2O, H2) and temperature of process, in relation with ratio of steam in gasification agents, were presented. Obtained results indicated concentration of CH4, H2 in outlet was increased significantly when using air-steam gasification agents than pure air. The discrepancies among the gasification agents were determined to improve the actual process.

Fossil fuel is non-renewable energy. This type of energy sources are widely used in many critical areas such as industrial application and vehicle application. Realizing this fact, many researches are conducted to produce alternative energy sources to reduce the dependence to fossil fuel for energy generation. As for example, fuels that produced from natural sources such as palm, rapeseed and jathropa are commonly used as alternative fuel especially for transportation purpose. Apart from natural sources, waste source such as used tires also can be utilized to produce alternative fuel. In this paper, the engine performance of diesel engine operating with unblended tire derived fuel (TDF) are analyzed and compared to diesel fuel. The experiment is conducted using a single cylinder, direct injection diesel engine. The engine operates at variable engine speed while constant load exerted to the engine. The performance parameters that are analyzed in the experiment includes engine power, engine torque, combustion pressure and exhaust gas temperature. Results from the experiment shows that diesel engine can operate with unblended TDF. However, TDF is not suitable for high engine speed applications. Furthermore, TDF produce lower performance output compared to diesel fuel.

The utilization of rice husk as an alternative fuel for the power plant in Indonesia is still under study. In present, steam power plants in Indonesia are still using coal fuel. This study was conducted to obtain data on the development potential of rice husk within 12 years duration. The potential of rice husk for each province was obtained by analyzing the rice production of 22 provinces that have rice production greater than 1 million tons per year. The study shows that the potential of rice husk and potential electrical energy increased by about 36.8% within 12 years or an average increase of around 3.1% per year. For the potential of rice husk in 22 provinces, the total gain was estimated 12.76 × 106 tons which is equivalent to 6.62 × 106 tons of coal or equivalent to 3.68 × 106 tons of oil. The available capacity of power plants is around 5,664 MW with the potential of electric energy is around 49,622 GWh. This potential is equivalent to 50% of the energy needs of coal in Indonesia in 2011, which was about 99,312 GWh. In conclusion, rice husk is indeed potential to be used as an alternative fuel in power plants thanks to its increasing yearly production and ability for distribution to all provinces in Indonesia.

Concerns about climate change and fossil fuel shortages are encouraging interest in stumps, as alternative energy sources. Stumps are an almost unused resource in the context of bio fuels. Stump harvesting signifies an intensification of forest management compared with conventional stem-only or above-ground biomass-only harvesting. There are many benefits of stump harvesting. These include: the production of wood fuel, fossil fuel substitution, and improved soil preparation.Removing tree trunks in Hungary has been going on according to the principle of stump extraction, which means stumps are removed by grabbing technology. Experiments have been carried out to reduce the extraction force. In the Great Hungarian Lowland, where large areas require the operation implementation, stump extraction is done by special, hydraulic driven baggers equipped with a special bucket. During operation of the equipment, we carried out measurements of the extraction force and the time requirement. The experiments are designed to carry out the measurements with different soils and different tree species. According to our proposal the suitable force and torque required to remove stumps can be significantly reduced if before the lifting the soil — root connection is loosened. One of the possible ways to implement this task is the use of vibration. Since relatively great vibration power and wide domain of frequency are necessary, therefore we prepared the loosening machinery elements of alternating-current hydraulics system. Based on constructions variants we created a tractor-mounted experimental alternating-current hydraulic stump-loosening machine. It was designed with the ability to produce horizontal vibration in order to loosen stumps.

Solar energy is widely used in solar systems, where economy and ecology are combined. Namely, this represents an important moment in the era of depletion of energy resources. The use of solar energy is a promising economical item for all countries of the world, meeting their interests also in terms of energy independence, thanks to which it is confidently gaining a stable position in the global energy sector. The cost of heat obtained through the use of solar installations largely depends on the radiation and climatic conditions of the area where the solar installation is used. The climatic conditions of our country, especially the south, make it possible to use the energy of the Sun to cover a significant part of the need for heat. A decrease in the reserves of fossil fuel and its rise in price have led to the development of optimal technical solutions, efficiency and economic feasibility of using solar installations. And today this is no longer an idle curiosity, but a conscious desire of homeowners to save not only their financial budget, but also health, which is possible only with the use of alternative energy sources, such as: double-circuit solar installations, geothermal heat pumps (HP), wind power generators. The problem is especially acute in the heat supply of housing and communal services (HCS), where the cost of fuel for heat production is several times higher than the cost of electricity. The main disadvantages of centralized heat supply sources are low energy, economic and environmental efficiency. And high transport tariffs for the delivery of energy carriers and frequent accidents on heating mains exacerbate the negative factors inherent in traditional district heating. One of the most effective energy-saving methods that make it possible to save fossil fuel, reduce environmental pollution, and meet the needs of consumers in process heat is the use of heat pump technologies for heat production.

Energy harvesting through motion caused by wind is a unique way of finding an alternative energy source for several electronic devices. Piezo-electronic sensors, which harvest energy from small vibrations and movements, are investigated by many researchers nowadays. This paper conducted an experimental study to find an alternative energy source for diverse electronics with forced oscillations from a fan. The relations between the force applied by wind and the oscillation of a paper strip were studied.
