Abstract: This study investigated the factors that influence a number of financial issues students face in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A survey was conducted to collect the data for this study. Respondents were asked to demonstrate which of the ten financial education topics they were keen on taking. Descriptive statistics was utilized to present the data. The results show that loans, residential status, and impulse spending were the causes that brought about the students’ financial issues. By identifying the causes of students’ financial issues, educators may be able offer a course, in which students can learn the money management skills needed to address these issues. The respondents were asked if they would be interested in financial education if offered. Almost all of the students expressed their interest in learning how to manage their money. In conclusion, many of the respondents did not have sufficient knowledge and skills in managing their financial affairs. AbstractApes, like many frugivorous animals, are crucial allies for the reproduction of several fruiting tree species. Almost all apes, however, including bonobos Pan paniscus, are threatened with extinction. How will this affect tree conservation? How can plants that are adapted to seed dispersal by apes reproduce without their dispersal vectors? At LuiKotale, in an evergreen tropical forest of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the recruitment of 22 plant species in the absence of seed dispersal was investigated under the parental canopy, where a proportion of seeds fall without horizontal dissemination. Most bonobo-dispersed plant species (95% of 19 species) were unable to self-recruit under the canopy. As 40% of the tree species (65% of trees) at LuiKotale are dispersed by bonobos there is a risk of ecosystem decay and simplification (reduced biodiversity) if Pan paniscus disappears from its natural range. The extinction of other apes from their forests could have similar consequences. The conservation of tree species, therefore, must encompass conservation of pollinators, seed dispersal vectors and other species that provide ecological services to the trees and other fruiting plants.

The promotion of financial management practices and growth of Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs) can contribute significantly towards the sustained elevation of a nation for a better or more humane life. SMEs play a crucial role in addressing the impediments of poverty, inequality and job creation. Yet, many SMEs face numerous challenges ranging from the lack of capital, poor management skills and the application of best financial management practices. This paper explores SMEs’ financial management skills and practices in relation to their growth. The study used questionnaire to collect data from managers or owners of SMEs. Descriptive statistics was used to present the results of the data. Not only that but also, a multiple regression model was also used to test the correlation between financial management practices of SMEs and business growth. The results indicates a moderate correlation between the financial management practices of the SMEs and the growth of the enterprises. Based on the findings, it is recommended for targeted financial education programmes to help managers and owners of SMEs develop and adopt best financial management practices.

Despite its critical role in containing outbreaks, the efficacy of contact tracing (CT), measured as the sensitivity of case detection, remains an elusive metric. We estimated the sensitivity of CT by applying unilist capture-recapture methods on data from the 2018-2020 outbreak of Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We applied different distributional assumptions to the zero-truncated count data to estimate the number of unobserved cases with a) any contacts and b) infected contacts, to compute CT sensitivity. Geometric distributions were the best fitting models. Our results indicate that CT efforts identified almost all (n=792, 99%) of the cases with any contacts, but only half (n=207, 48%) of the cases with infected contacts, suggesting that CT efforts performed well at identifying contacts during the listing stage, but performed poorly during the contact follow-up stage. We discuss extensions to our work and potential applications for the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The current state of large cities in Democratic Republic of Congo highlights the necessity of reinventing cities. More than fifty years after the independence, these major cities, like Kinshasa the capital city, are in a state of are in a state of disrepair. They are damaged, dysfunctional, and more vulnerable. Today, these legacy cities do not meet the international requirements of livable cities. Democratic Republic of Congo faces the challenge of rebuilding its cities for sustainability. The movement for independence of African countries enabled the shift from colonial cities to legacy cities. It is important to understand the cultural and ideological foundations of colonial city. Commonly, colonial cities served as purpose-built settlements for the extraction and transport of mineral resources toward Europe. What's required is a creative reconstruction to achieve a desired successful urban change. Creative reconstruction tends to ensure urban transformation in relation with urbanization, by making continuous and healthy communities. Creative reconstruction seems appropriate way of building back cities in harmony with cultural values. The article provides a framework for urban regeneration.
