Enhancing the Job Satisfaction Level through Dimensions of Employee Engagement: An Empirical Study on Private Sector Bank Managers

The purpose of the study is to analyze how the of job satisfaction level can be enhanced through employee engagement and its dimensions namely, vigour, dedication and absorption. Augmenting the job satisfaction levels can increase the employee retention in organizations. Research has proved that engaged employees can act as competitive advantage for organizations and creates quality workforce that is fully committed. The study was administered on 96 Managers who were representatives of 4 private sector banks in Delhi/NCR. Variables in the study were assessed using validated instruments. Descriptive Statistics, Correlation and Regression were used for data analysis. Indian private banking sector has undergone incredible change in the last few decades. Due to enormously competitive scenario, it is relevant to note that banks need to distinguish themselves from each other. Enough research has been on the concept of employee engagement and its vitality to employees well-being, but there is limited research on employee engagement dimensions and relation between job satisfaction. The current research is imperative in providing insights into relation between employee engagement dimensions and its impact on job satisfaction levels.

Employee engagement and retention is a promising area in management as well as psychology. The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of employee engagement (EE) on their retention (ER). We proposed a theoretical framework model explaining how employee engagement affects their retention. The original model linked engagement with control at work (CAW) and general well-being (GWB) through psychological capital (PsyCap). We extended this model by linking CAW and GWB to employee retention. We further added job satisfaction (JS) as a mediator between EE and ER. To establish its empirical validity, we conducted a survey from 200 employees working in different companies in Pakistan by using a close ended likert scale type questionnaire. Data was analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Findings suggested a positive significant relationship between EE and ER. PsyCap, CAW and JS play a significant mediator role for EE and ER, only GWB does not mediates the relationship between EE and ER. This research will help in understanding how to retain employees and mounting their psychological capital through training and development, since when employees will be happy and motivated, they can perform well and will have job satisfaction. As a result, the level of intention of employees to leave would be low. This study is preliminary the first to investigate the association between EE and ER through many other constructs (PsyCap, CAW, GWB and JS) in the Pakistani context.

This study aims to elaborate the role of job satisfaction in committing employees with organization. This study tested the effect of both components of job satisfaction (intrinsic and extrinsic) of on organizational commitment in banking sector of Pakistan. Data was gathered from employees working in banks of Pakistan. The study has uses descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) to identify sample characteristics and inferential statistics (multiple linear regression) to find out the relationship between variables. Results showed the significant and positive effect of both components of job satisfaction on organizational commitment. This study is a contribution to theory and practice with an increased understanding on importance of job satisfaction in committing the employees with the organization.   Keywords: Intrinsic Job Satisfaction, Extrinsic Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment

This chapter seeks to impart understanding of the role of employee online communities for enhanced employee engagement and retention in an organization. The highly engaged and motivated employees would contribute more towards accomplishing the organizations goals. The various research studies conducted in the past across the world identify job satisfaction as a major determinant of employee engagement and retention. The role of internal communication through employee online communities of organizations or intranets is theoretically suggested to be a major influencer for the enhancement of employee engagement efforts. This can help to enhance and support culture, corporate values, mission statement, and annual company goals. The purpose of this chapter is to investigate the role that the employee online communities of organizations play in order to support the twin objectives of employee retention and engagement. Engaging employees can be the catalyst for inducing positive change among employees and, as a result, boosting an organization's success.

Orientation: Research regarding subjective well-being (including life satisfaction and domain-specific satisfaction) is necessary, given the effects thereof on health, work performance, social relationships and ethical behaviour of employees.Research purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationships among life satisfaction, job satisfaction and wage satisfaction, as well as how these relationships related to gross wage category in a South African sample.Motivation for the study: While research has shown that wage level and wage satisfaction are positively associated with both job and life satisfaction, the question arises whether wage level and satisfaction would compensate for the negative effect of a dissatisfying job on life satisfaction.Research approach/design and method: A cross-sectional design was used. A non-probability convenience sample (N = 763) in the form of the WageIndicator data set was obtained. Hierarchical log-linear analyses and cross-tabulations were carried out to determine the relationships that existed among the constructs.Main findings: Although job satisfaction and wage satisfaction were strongly related at a low level of wage satisfaction, fewer people were satisfied with their jobs at a high level of wage satisfaction level. Moreover, while job and life satisfaction were strongly related at a low level of job satisfaction level, relatively fewer people were satisfied with their lives at a high level of job satisfaction level. Wage dissatisfaction was associated with dissatisfaction with life but was more strongly associated with life satisfaction at a high level of wage satisfaction. Wage category and wage satisfaction did not interact with the job satisfaction level in affecting life satisfaction.Practical/managerial implications: Managers should attend to the perceptions of wage dissatisfaction at low wage and wage satisfaction levels. Such dissatisfaction may have a negative impact on the job and life satisfaction of employees and result in detrimental effects on employees and organisations.Contribution/value-add: This study contributes to scientific knowledge regarding the relationships between wage, wage satisfaction, job dissatisfaction and life satisfaction.

The Problem In today’s dynamic environment, organizations face difficulties in retaining their talented employees. Although there are several studies that link job satisfaction with work engagement, a closer examination is needed to understand whether it is intrinsic or extrinsic job satisfaction that enhances work engagement. This shows that the job satisfaction is the key driver of work engagement. So, the purpose of this article is to study the level of job satisfaction among the managers at various hierarchical levels of private sector banks in India and also to study the relationship between job satisfaction and work engagement among managers at various hierarchical levels. The Solution This study follows the descriptive research design, and data were collected by standardized questionnaire developed by Minnesota and by Schaufeli’s Satisfaction Questionnaire, and data were collected from the 148 managers at various hierarchical levels working in private sector banks in India. To attain the objectives, the descriptive statistics and regression analysis have been used. The results show that the managers who are working in private sector banks are more satisfied with intrinsic job satisfaction rather than extrinsic job satisfaction and also found that there is positive relationship between job satisfaction and work engagement among managers at various hierarchical levels of private sector banks in India. The limitation of this study is data were collected at a single point of time. The Stakeholders Stakeholders of this study include private sector bank managers at various hierarchical levels and human resource managers of organizations having hierarchical management system where management is focused toward employee satisfaction and retention in the organization. Consultation agencies dealing in human resource practices, research agencies, and research scholars are other stakeholders as it will be literature for further studies.

This study finds out the effect Types of Bank (A), Cadre (B), Length of Service (C) and Gender (D) of the employees on job satisfaction. 240 subjects were used as sample of the research. Out of these 240, 120 subjects were of public sector bank and 120 of private bank of Meerut Region. Each group of 120 individuals consisted of 60 officers and 60 clerical staff. Each group of 120 bank employee consisted of 60 employee of below 5 years and 60 employee of above 10 years, In each subgroup of 30 subjects, 15 were Male and 15 Female. Effects of this The first independent variable, type of bank was varied at two type i.e., Private Sector (A1) and Public Sector (A2), Second variable cadre has two categories Officer (B1) and Clerical (B2). Third variable length of service has two categories i.e., below 5 years (C1) and above 10 years (C2) fourth variable gender has two categories, i.e., Male (D1) and Female (D2).Job Satisfaction Scale: This test was developed by Prof. S.K. Srivastava of Gurukul Kangri University; Haridwar. As the design of the study is 2x2x2x2 between group fractional designs, with 16 cells was used to examine the effect of three independent variable on job satisfaction. ANOVA was used as statistical technique to analyze the data followed by Mean and Newman-Keuls Multi-group Comparison Test.
