This study focused on the tourism impact on the culture of Kebonagung tourism village, Imogiri, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The method used in this study was qualitative descriptive and using the case study approach. Data were collected through observation, interview and literature review. Cultural component data were presented descriptively, and they explained about how tourism brought effects to them. The transformational condition of the culture itself contained many aspects such as; religion, socio-cultural, livelihood, technology growth, language and art. The goal of this study was to find tourism impacts on Kebonagung Society. In religion, the impact towards the society was they could positively accept the diversity of religion. However, the local religion system also became the biggest challenge to develop tourism. Tourism also gave a positive impact to the society organizational system. It made the society more open minded. When tourism brought foreign culture inside, it also threated the local society organizational system. Other impact was the livelihood of the local society can be widely known, but it also potentially faded the originality of the culture itself by the tourist. In the language aspect, tourism helped Javanese Language and Javanese Script to be widely used especially in tourism activity. From the negative side, local language also had to compete with foreign language. The effect of tourism development in the field of art was that it brought art closer to society, but foreign art and culture can also rub the local art and culture.

This research is aimed at figuring out the extent to which job characteristics, perceived organizational support and self-efficacy affect job satisfaction with work engagement serving as an intervening variable. The respondents of this research were 101 employees of the Centre for the Development and Empowerment of Educators and Educational Personnel (P4TK) of Art and Culture of Yogyakarta. The data were collected using questionnaires. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative analysis techniques used in this research were t-test, F-test, multiple regression analysis and path analysis. The research yielded some results. Firstly,  job characteristics and self-efficacy had a significant effect on work engagement and perceived organizational support did not have any significant effect on work engagement, but together it had a significant effect on work engagement. Secondly, job characteristics and perceived organizational support had a significant effect on job satisfaction, and self-efficacy did not have any significant effect on job satisfaction, but together it had a significant effect on job satisfaction. Thirdly, work engagement had a significant effect on job satisfaction. Fourthly, job characteristics and perceived organizational support had a greater effect on job satisfaction directly, and self-efficacy had a greater effect on job satisfaction indirectly through work engagement. The results of this research can be used as a reference for P4TK to improve employees' job satisfaction, and ultimately, support the achievement of organizational goals.

<div><p class="AbstractEnglish">Currently, Pekalongan City is known as the city of batik. The recognition is both at national and international levels whereas Pekalongan has been acknowledged as a world creative city based on the art and culture of batik. Batik is an essential commodity in Indonesian creative industries and has been the major commodity of Pekalongan. Batik industry is also capable of creating an inter-business association like the <em>canting</em> making business and fabric dyes business. As a city of batik, Pekalongan is prepared as a tourist destination through the availability of Batik Museum and two centers of batik craftsmen. The attraction has been increasing because tourists do not only see the process but can practice on how to make batik along with the batik craftsmen and interact with the related tools and materials, and this is known as creative tourism. The impact of the creative tourism can become one of the efforts to the local economic development of Pekalongan because it has been able to make linkages between sectors in tourism and batik industry.</p></div>

A.V. Chayanov was primarily an agrarian economist, but he also possessed encyclopedic interests and knowledge and wrote a series of articles on the history of art, which reflect his peculiar sociology of art. This article is a review of the collection of works which include articles written by this outstanding social thinker. The author considers that Chayanov’s articles on the history of collecting artwork in Moscow and on the history of West-European engraving show the original features of his sociological interdisciplinary analysis. Chayanov studied various aspects of social life — history and economics, art and culture — to identify the historical-social types of collectors of fine artwork, the impact of social crises on the nature of collecting, the problems of elitism and egalitarianism in art, and the directions of people’s cultural development. All of these issues are still relevant to contemporary studies of art.

Abstract book for symposium “Making and shaping things in creative economies. From history to present day” organised by Vilnius University, 28-30 November 2019. This symposium studies the ways design is organised and managed with different political processes and policies, both in past and present. Instead of focusing solely on the content of policies, politics and management, it attempts to create a wider debate within the framework of culture, creativity and economy. The event looks at the impact that the specific policies and individuals, organisations or institutions behind them have on existing design culture. In addition to the act of designing, the possible subjects include policies shaping all stages in the life cycle of an object, for example promotion, consumption, collecting objects or recycling them, as well as positioning design in a wider political context. Within the international symposium “Making and shaping things in creative economies” an event is dedicated to the study of art and culture within local creative economies and industries in Lithuania and nearby. The aim is to research the ways art is managed and organised with different strategies, processes and policies. Instead of focusing solely on the content of policies, politics and management, it creates a wider debate within the framework of culture, creativity and economy.

The authors discuss their experience at Duke University and, more specifically, at the Dig@Lab, a core research unit of the CMAC (Computational Media Art and Culture) program in the Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies. This community of scholars and students represents a new branch of experimental teaching in digital humanities with the participation of students and faculty from the humanities, engineering, computer science, neuroscience, and visual media. In particular, the Dig@Lab studies the impact of virtual reality in cyberarchaeology and virtual museums.

The article focuses on Johann Caspar Lavater (1741–1801), the Enlightenment-era thinker, pastor and writer, art collector and physiognomist, whose work and activities affected thinking from Zurich to America and Russia, including the Baltic countries. Of Lavater’s Estonian acquaintances, Johann Burchard VII, the Tallinn Town Council pharmacist, is the one that primarily emerges from the article. The famous Swiss maintained a correspondence with the latter for over ten years, and in 1792, gifted him a miniature portrait of himself (now in the Estonian History Museum).In addition to the miniature portrait after Johann Heinrich Lips (?), there were two graphic portraits of Lavater in Estonia that were associated with Georg Friedrich Schmoll (Tallinn City Museum, University of Tartu Library) as well as a masterful oil portrait by August Friedrich Olenhainz (Art Museum of Estonia’s Kadriorg Art Museum). The article examines all of these against the background of Lavater’s successful book of the day “Physiognomische Fragmente zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntnis und Menschenliebe” (“Physiognomic Fragments for Furthering the Knowledge and Love of Man”, 1775–1778) and in regard to Lavater’s discussions about people and the art of portraiture.An attempt is made thereby to see Enlightenment-era portrait art through the eyes of Enlightenment-era people – Lavater and his audience. While the author of the article is convinced of the impact of Lavater’s physiognomic research on the portraiture of the day (on the artists, clients, viewers) and also more indirectly on the history of art, she emphasis that, for Lavater, portrait art was primarily a tool for his physiognomic research and even if Lavater’s teachings lost their popularity after his death and were relegated to the periphery of science, Lavater should not be excluded from the history of art and culture in the Baltic countries.

The United States off ers a decade-long illustration of the implementation of a major policy initiative for art and culture across the nation's cities and towns. In this article, we focus on the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and its companion ArtPlace and Our Town initiative around place-making, as they have developed since 2009. We describe the challenges that almost eliminated the NEA in the 1990s, the subsequent advocacy shift towards the economic impact of the arts, and the emergence of the Our Town initiative in 2011. We analyse the policy initiatives, their rationales and implementation. We conclude with lessons and ways to improve practice in relation to the roles of artists and arts organizations covering issues of displacement, gentrification and racism (often unanticipated challenges for communities and funders); the impact of the arts in economic terms; and evaluative challenges for funders and place-makers, especially given cultural diversity and 'place-keeping' priorities.
