Background The prevalence and economic burden of dementia are increasing dramatically. Using information communication technology to improve cognitive functions is proven to be effective and holds the potential to serve as a new and efficient method for the prevention of dementia. Objective The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with the experience of mobile apps for cognitive training in middle-aged adults. We evaluated the relationships between the experience of cognitive training apps and structural variables using an extended health belief model. Methods An online survey was conducted on South Korean participants aged 40 to 64 years (N=320). General characteristics and dementia knowledge were measured along with the health belief model constructs. Statistical analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed. Results Higher dementia knowledge (odds ratio [OR] 1.164, P=.02), higher perceived benefit (OR 1.373, P<.001), female gender (OR 0.499, P=.04), and family history of dementia (OR 1.933, P=.04) were significantly associated with the experience of cognitive training apps for the prevention of dementia. Conclusions This study may serve as a theoretical basis for the development of intervention strategies to increase the use of cognitive training apps for the prevention of dementia.

Purpose This study examines the factors influencing intention to vaccinate against COVID-19 in a developing country context using the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and health belief model (HBM). Design/methodology/approach Through a cross-sectional survey design, the study adopted a quantitative approach to data collection and analysis. The study used an online survey to collect data from 478 respondents eligible to take the COVID-19 vaccine in Ghana. Findings Attitude, social norm, perceived behavioural control, perceived susceptibility and cues to action were found to be predictors of COVID-19 vaccination intention. The results also showed that perceived severity, perceived benefits and perceived barriers did not predict COVID-19 vaccination intention. Practical implications To enhance the effectiveness of COVID-19 social marketing campaigns, social marketing theories such as the TPB and HBM can aid in assessing the intention of the target population to take the vaccines. An assessment of vaccination intention will help understand disease threat perception and behavioural evaluation. The consideration of the effect of demography on vaccination intention will aid in developing effective campaigns to satisfy the needs of segments. Originality/value This study adds to the limited research on understanding citizens’ intention to vaccinate against COVID-19 by combining the TPB and HBM to predict vaccination intention. The study contributes towards the use of social marketing practices to enhance the efficacy of vaccination campaigns.

Abstract Purpose:To assess ophthalmologists preparedness in such a critical period in the history of pandemics, a logical socio-psychological framework assessment using the health belief model (HBM) is essential to evaluate their risk perception, their willingness to actively participate in engaging in protective health behavior and acknowledge its benefits and their capability to perform adequate successful methods in limiting the spread of COVID-19 and overcome the barriers they might encounter while implementing such precautions.Methods:A cross-sectional study conducted in King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital using a questionnaire-based (HBM) was distributed to 135 ophthalmologists in the institute to evaluate their risk perception on COVID-19, and determine which components of the HBM contribute to preventive health behavior related to the COVID-19 infection.Results:The questionnaire had a reasonable response rate ( 79.3%, 107 ophthalmologists including; 48 consultants, 51 fellows, and 36 residents). The study demonstrated that this model is useful and mapped how several components were significantly correlated to actions. Most significantly, perceived susceptibility was the most important predictor of action. The second most important determinant of action was the perceived benefit.Conclusion:Pandemics such as COVID-19 are more likely to happen again in the future. Explicit attention to factors influencing motivation, such as threat perception to adopt appropriate health-related behavior to limit the spread of communicable diseases, is necessary. This study has successfully represented preparedness and risk behavior perception of ophthalmologists to the novel COVID-19 pandemic in one of the largest tertiary eye hospitals in the middle east using the health belief model.

Abstract Background: Kidney failure is one of the most important late complication in type 2 patients with diabetes, so more of half-people are wait to graft kidney are people that caused to diabetes. The purpose of this study, was predict to care of kidney in type 2 diabetes patients based on Health Belief Model (HBM).Methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, 242 patients with type 2 diabetes select with simple sampling of health centers in Arak ( a city in Iran) in 2020 and health behaviors of kidneys collected based on HBM with reliable and validity of questionaries’ and analyses by linear regression logistic.Results: The mean age of patients was 47.51 ±7.86 years. FBS average was 159.65 ± 55.01 mi/dc and average of performance of patients about care of kidney was 30/31± 6/42. Among HBM construct predicted about %38 perceived severity, %67.6 knowledge, %31.8 self-efficacy and %16.4 internal cues to action, these cases have the most power for prediction and total of construct predict health behavior of kidneys that are about %49. Conclusion: This study showed that increasing patients information in field of recognizing kidney failure, emphasis on role of cues to action and finally increasing self-efficacy in patients with type 2 diabetes about care of kidney should be emphasis in education programs for preventing of kidney failure.

Background: Increased globalization, urbanization, improvements in science and technology, information technology made life style changes; prone to increased risk of non communicable diseases. Beliefs about hypertension determine behaviour of the hypertensive people towards hypertension and its complications. Health beliefs about hypertension can be studied by health belief model. The objectives were to know the socio-demographic characteristics and to quantify the health beliefs among elderly hypertensive people in the light of Health belief model.Methods: A cross sectional study was done for a period of 6 months from January 2018 to June 2018 among people aged 50 years and above who were hypertensives in Khammam urban locality. Randomly 160 people were selected for the study. Data was collected by using a semi-structured questionnaire. Analysis will be done using proportions.Results: The average number of years the individuals known to have hypertension was 6.38 years. The current systolic blood pressure in most of the elderly was in between 140-149 mm of Hg. The current diastolic BP in most of the elderly was 81-90 mm of Hg was followed by less than 80 mm of Hg. In the study, health beliefs were quantified. More than half of elderly had perceived threat of hypertension (54.6%). The health beliefs of perceived benefits were 44%. Perceived threats of barriers were 62.7%.Conclusions: The information obtained will be useful for planning the health education or health promotion programs based on the needs and deficiencies of the people.
