<p><em>This study investigated the influence of parental input and intelligent quotient on secondary school students’ achievement in Biology. The study was guided by four research questions and four hypotheses. This study employed a survey research design. A sample of 500 students was used for the study using the stratified sampling and simple random technique. The instrument that was employed in this study is intelligent quotient test and parental input questionnaire, which were adequately validated. The regression method of data analysis was employed. The study revealed that there was a significant relationship between intelligence quotient, parental input and academic achievement of senior secondary school students in Biology.</em><em> </em><em>It was recommended that Parents should spend more time to check their children’s books to see what they are doing in school</em><em>s</em><em> and that Parents should be in contact with teachers who on daily basis are in position to guide the children.</em></p>

Social Networking Sites are a type of virtual community which enables many people to interact and share ideas or interests. Social networking is rapidly changing the way the world is doing virtually everything, from the way people access information to the way people communicate and most importantly, the way they interact. This study investigated the relationship between Social Networking Sites and Observational Learning of Senior Secondary School students in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria. Four research questions with the corresponding hypotheses were generated. The objectives of the study centered on investigating the relationship between four social networking sites namely: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube to observational learning. The correlational study design was adopted for the study. Simple random sampling was used to draw a sample of 560 students from the population of the study. The selfdesigned instrument was of two parts: A and B. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to answer the research questions while the hypotheses were subjected to critical probability level of 0.05 alpha levels. Findings to this study revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between social networking sites and observational learning; some of which include enhancement of informative endowment as in the case of Facebook, live-video functionality to stories in the case of Instagram and acquisition of vocational skills from YouTube. The paper at the end recommended that more encouragement should be given to students to enable them benefit adequately and positively from the gains of social networking channels vis-a-vis observational learning.

This study investigated the effect of cooperative learning strategy on senior secondary school students’ performance in Mathematics. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design. The sample for the study consisted of one hundred and forty-four (144) Senior Secondary School two students, selected from Awka Education, Anambra State, Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was Mathematics Performance Test (MPT). The instrument was validated by three experts and had a reliability index of 0.89 obtained through the use of Pearson product moment correlation. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The collected data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while t-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 alpha levels. The result of the study showed among others that senior secondary school students performed highly when taught Mathematics concepts using cooperative learning instructional strategy; both the male and female students benefitted equally from the cooperative learning strategy. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that Mathematics teachers should adopt cooperative learning strategy as an effective learning strategy in order to improve senior secondary school students’ academic performance. Also, school management boards should organize workshops, seminars and conferences to expose teachers and students constantly to the use of the strategy for maximum academic output.

The purpose of this study is to identify causes of pathological fear in Mathematics among secondary school students in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The study also examines strategies that could be adopted to reduce pathological fear in Mathematics among students. Three research questions and a hypothesis tested at α = 0.05 level of significant were formulated to guide the study. A research questionnaire on Pathological Fear in Mathematics Questionnaire (PFMATQ) was used in collecting data from 250 senior secondary school students. They were selected by stratified random sampling technique from five educational zones in Adamawa State. Mean, standard deviation and t-test were used to analyses the data generated. The study reveals that causes of pathological fear in Mathematics among others include: parental indoctrination that Mathematics is difficult, the Mathematics teacher factor and the abstract nature of Mathematics. Strategies that could be adopted to reduce pathological fear in Mathematics among others include; the use of mathematical games; uses of heuristic method of teaching and use of relevant set induction techniques. It is recommended that parents should stop indoctrinating their children that Mathematics is difficult; they should keep away their unpleasant experiences about Mathematics and present favorable ones to encourage them to develop interest in Mathematics. The study examined the content validity of Chemistry MOCK examination questions for senior secondary school students set by Adamawa State Educational Resource Centre (ERC), Yola. Students have been passing the MOCK examinations but unfortunately performance poorly in the subject in their final year external examination like WAEC in Adamawa State. The main objective of the study was to determine the representativeness of the topics in the senior secondary school Chemistry curriculum in the MOCK examination question papers from 2015 to 2019. Three research questions were raised and two research hypotheses formulated. An ex-post facto research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised all MOCK examination questions in Chemistry and those involved in handling Chemistry MOCK question papers which includes both essay and objective examination questions. The research instrument used for the study was MOCK examination question papers in Chemistry in order to determine whether the contents are as indicated in Chemistry curriculum for senior secondary schools. The validity of the instrument was determined by some experts. And for the reliability of the instrument, a trial-test was conducted where a reliability index of 0.75 was obtained using Cronbach alpha. The research questions were answered using descriptive statistics while the null hypotheses were tested using Chi-square. The findings of study revealed that the content validity of the chemistry MOCK examination questions has not yet improved in order to prepare the students of senior secondary schools in Adamawa state for WAEC, NECO or NABTEB examinations.

This study sought to determine the effect ofconcept mapping on secondary school students‟ achievement and retention in physics. Four research questions and six hypotheses guided the study. Pretest-posttest non randomized control group design was adopted for the study. The study was conducted in Agbani education zone of Enugu State, where a sample of one hundred and fifty-six (156) senior secondary school one (SSS 1) students was drawn from four intact classes. Technique adopted for sampling was purposive multistage stratified random sampling. Instrument used for data collection was Physics Achievement Test (PAT). The instrument was constructed by the researcher and validated by three research experts. PAT yielded a stability coefficient of .71 obtained through test –retest approach. PAT also yielded a reliability coefficient of .65 obtained by Kudar-Richardson 20 formula. Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Major findings of the study showed that the experimental group achieved higher and retained more physics than their counterparts in the control group. Also male and female students did not differ significantly in their achievement and retention in physics. It was recommended that concept mapping be used in teaching secondary school physics.

This study advocated the efficacy of Geoboard manipulative in senior secondary school students’ academic performance in the teaching and learning of Geometry. A sample of one hundred (100) Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) students were used by Simple Random Sampling Technique from two secondary schools in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. The instrument for data collection was pretestposttest Geometric Performance Test (GPT). The reliability of the instrument was tested outside the sample with the coefficient of 0.98 using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) method.The instrument was validated by two Mathematics experts. This research was guided by two (2) objectives, two (2) research questions and two (2) hypotheses. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation, while analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings established that Geoboard technique revealed effectiveness of Geoboard in providing adequate structure for in-depth learning of authentic tasks leading to meaningful understanding and hence enhance better performance of Geometry which was perceived as difficult by senior secondary school students. It also demonstrated that Geoboard is a very effective technique in enhancing students’ performance in Geometry. KEYWORDS: Geoboard, Manipulative, Teaching-Learning.

The authors of this study have attempted to understand whether study habits affect academic achievement among secondary and senior secondary school students of Mysore. It is also attempted to know whether students at secondary level differ from senior secondary level on their study habits. The study was conducted on the sample of 625 students of Mysore City in India using stratified random sampling technique. Results indicated that the study habits facilitate higher academic achievement. Further, it was also found that secondary school students are significantly better than senior secondary students on study habits. The findings are analyzed and explained. Thus, study habit is found to be an important correlate of academic achievement.

This study was set to determine the strategies for enhancing the performance of secondary school students in agricultural science for food security in Ebonyi State. A survey research design was adopted with a population of 53 respondents (14 male and 39 female agricultural science teachers) sampled purposively from 48 secondary schools in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured 4-point weighted 21-item questionnaire developed by the researcher sectioned A and B with response options of Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (DA) and Strongly Disagree (SD) after intensive literature review and the numerical values of 4, 3, 2 & 1 was assigned to the instrument respectively. The instrument was validated by three research experts while the reliability index of 0.77 was established using Cronbach Alpha reliability estimate. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the two research questions while t-test was used to test the two null hypotheses at .05 level of significance and appropriate degree of freedom. Some of the findings among others include that teachers can enhance the performance of secondary school students in agricultural science for food security in Ebonyi State. It was therefore recommended that facilities should be made available for proper training of secondary school students for productivity on graduation and as well for food security in Ebonyi State.
