Architecture is often understood as a real and tangible science, in the form of space and form. This understanding is associated with the origin of the word ‘techne’ which refers to the engineering in the construction process of a building, an architectural work. Writing on new architecture developed around 1968, at a time when architectural criticism by Louis Huxtable became known although the form of writing, identification both in pictures and description, had been done since the time of the Roman Empire by Vitruvius and later interpreted by Leon Battista in the Renaissance. This paper describes descriptively several examples and categories of writing about architecture, especially in Indonesia. The study uses an exploratory study approach with reference to the theory of architectural criticism from Attoe’s understanding. The descriptive exploration of this paper shows there are at least four categories of architectural writing in Indonesia, from those aimed at creating architectural narratives to making architectural texts which are then called archi-text-ture in the paper. The paper is not a final paper, because it is the start of a long textual journey, so it is made as an archi-text-ture construction process and to open up opportunities for further interpretation and development

Abstract Objective: To explore the associations between dietary tastes and chronic diseases quantitatively. Design: We used the Geodetector method to establish associations between seven tastes and a variety of chronic diseases from the perspective of spatial stratified heterogeneity and explained the effects of dietary tastes on the spatial distribution of chronic diseases. Setting: We used crowdsourcing online recipe data to extract multiple taste information about cuisines, combined with point of interest data on categorised restaurant data in different regions, to quantitatively analyse the taste preferences of people in different regions. Participants: Crowdsourcing online recipe data and restaurant data in different regions. Results: The results showed that sixteen diseases were significantly associated with dietary tastes among the seventy-one types of chronic diseases. Compared with the effects of individual tastes, the interactions of tastes increased the risk of sixteen diseases, and many combinations of tastes produced nonlinear enhancement effects on the risk for diseases. Conclusions: This study presents a quantitative study approach based on the crowdsourcing of data to explore potential health risk factors, which can be applied to the exploratory analysis of disease aetiology and help public health authorities to develop corresponding interventions.

This study discusses about the transformation of functions with a case study of buildings at Ara Center, located in Gading Serpong, Tangerang. Ara Center was originally designed as an apartment complex. However, during the construction process, two of the pleasant buildings that were designed underwent a process of changing into a hotel and university. The purpose of this study is to find out how the transformation that occurs in buildings that have been designed, both in the spatial system and physical and figural systems. This study also has a purpose to find out how the spatial, physical, and figural patterns that are formed to the current activities. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. The results of this study found that the transformation of functions that occur changes the spatial system in buildings in terms of spatial layout. Whereas in physical and figural systems only a few changes occur.

AbstractThis paper assesses the alternative models currently proposed for the original design of the Antonine Wall. It argues that there is sufficient evidence of a pattern in the structural relationships between the Wall and its various garrison posts to confirm that there was a major change of plan during the construction process. This resulted in the addition of a series of secondary forts, several of which can now be shown to have replaced primary fortlets, and a concomitant delay in the construction programme. An explanation is offered for this rapid change of design, which resulted in one of the most intensively garrisoned linear frontiers in the Roman Empire.

The article presents findings from an exploratory study investigating the nature of collaborative research and development in creative industries. Participants in the study are two creative SMEs with extensive experience of participating in collaborative projects. A collective case study approach is adopted with data collected on the factors impinging on the effectiveness of such collaborations. Findings are presented at the macro and micro levels of such collaborations. The paper concludes with a summary of some of the challenges faced by small creative SMEs when collaborating with other organizations during the research and development process.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate the contextual factors that influence the impact of account manager turnover on the client–agency relationship, an under-researched area of relationship management literature. Design/methodology/approach – A case study approach and one-to-one interviews are used to conduct the exploratory study, analysing client–agency relationships within the UK design industry. A conceptual framework covering individual and organisational characteristics is used to examine the contextual factors impacting account manager turnover. Findings – The findings identify both organisational and individual contextual factors that influence the outcome of turnover. Categorized into three core contexts (client-specific knowledge, multiple relationship ties and turnover process management), factors such as agency structure and culture, agency knowledge management policies and client experience were all found to impact on account manager turnover. Research limitations/implications – This small, qualitative, exploratory study suggests the need for further research to investigate the transferability of the findings to a broader range of organisational types and industries and to highlight additional contextual factors that influence the impact of turnover. Practical implications – Account manager turnover does not necessarily mean the end of the client–service firm relationship. Agencies can create contexts that mitigate the potential negative effects. Small firms appear to have advantages inherent in their size, but larger firms can take steps to emulate some of the conditions found in micro firms. Originality/value – This paper adds to the limited number of studies into account manager turnover, making a theoretical and practical contribution, enabling marketing managers to take steps to ensure staff turnover does not result in client switching.

El objetivo de este artículo es comprender las representaciones sociales construidas por un grupo de adolescentes del estado de Tamaulipas, acerca del narcotráfico. Se empleó un diseño de estudio de caso intrínseco, y se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas para aproximarse al proceso deconstrucción de su representación social. Para analizar el contenido temático se utilizó el programa MAXQDA 11. Los resultados muestran que los adolescentes consideran al narcotráfico como una actividad delictiva, que se ha diversificado para incluir otros delitos asociados con la violencia y el daño a los demás. Es un estudio exploratorio y, pese al número reducido de participantes, recupera las voces de los adolescentes inmersos en comunidades donde hay narcotráfico, sin que participen directamente en él, también da cuenta de que la incorporación de los jóvenes en el narcotráfico se limita cuando lo perciben como un delito, y elaboran su identidad en contraposición a él.Social representations about drug trafficking among adolescents in TamaulipasThe aim of this article is to understand the social representations constructed by a group of adolescents of the state of Tamaulipas about drug trafficking. An intrinsic case study design was used and semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to explore the social representation construction process. For the purpose of analyzing the thematic content the MAXQDA 11 program was used. The results show that adolescents consider drug trafficking as a criminal activity that has become more diverse, including other crimes associated with violence and harming others. This is an exploratory study, which, notwithstanding the small number of participants, recovers the voices of the adolescents immersed in communities where drug trafficking is prevalent, without participating directly in it. Likewise, it explains that young people’s involvement in drug trafficking decreases when they perceive it as a crime, developing their identity as opposed to it.

Ubud as one of the wellknown tourists’ destinations in Bali Province, currently is developing the potency on culinary for tourism. Nowadays Ubud is also becoming the interests of millennial tourists to visit. Millenn ial tourists represent 27 % of the global population or around 2 billion people. On average, they take 35 days of vacation each year with the typical of preferring experience the most. Therefore, this research is designed by exploratory study approach and the aims are to analyze and identify the interests of millennial tourists to visit Ubud for the purpose of tasting and enjoying culinary for the sake of tourism. Primary data is collected using semi-structured interviews with respondents as many as 30 (thirty) millennial visitors or tourists in Ubud. Through a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, this research explores millenials’ thoughts and motivation of culinary tourists in Ubud. For the result, this study indicates millennials tourists’ respondents have a high interest in culinary tours.  Ubud is considered to offer a large selection of local culinary delights of good taste and quality; calm, comfortable, and nice view and atmosphere; and is a favorite destination for tourists. Sources of information about culinary tours in Ubud are recommendations from friends / relatives and social media. This study also includes exploratory observations regarding the food menu, location, facilities, and security in Ubud District. For wider perspectives on culinary tours a la millennials, further research is encouraged in other areas and interests.

Despite the steady growth in the use of online platforms for purchasing products in the past few years, e-commerce faces important challenges such as the inability of physically experiencing a product, specifically the inability to obtain tactile information. In this chapter, through a qualitative exploratory study approach, the author explores the possibility of conveying tactile characteristics of a product to consumers in an online shopping environment through product presentation formats such as written descriptions and 2D images. The author highlights the potential for sensory marketing through first reviewing literature on the subject with a special focus on touch and the inability to touch in online commercial channels. The methodology is presented along with the findings of the exploratory study. A concluding discussion of findings is presented and the potential for future research in the area of image processing to enhance 2D images ability to provide tactile information is discussed to conclude the chapter.

Designing useful emerging technologies (e.g., Virtual Reality) needs that multidisciplinary teams composed of engineers, graphic designers and ergonomists. These designers with heterogeneous and various backgrounds have to dialog together to satisfy users’ needs in the software design. This depends on their representations and viewpoints. This paper explores how the usefulness and needs construction (phases, methods, tools and stakeholders) are currently considered in design literature and by different designers’ profiles through their viewpoints. Semi-structured interviews were performed with 10 designers and collected verbal data were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. Results suggest that 1) viewpoints are often specific to a designer profile because of specialized literatures, profession and background; 2) some viewpoints are common to several designers’ profiles probably because of experiences and their former integrations in multidisciplinary projects. These findings allow us to advocate some recommendations to project leaders and to suggest a scientific perspective for future study on intra-group variability.
