Speech acts are utterances which do not only have explicit meaning but also implicit meaning. Political speech acts are such an important issue for politicians as they can provide information to regulate people's thoughts and opinions through political language which is used as the main key. This research examined speech acts’ implementation in political speech, including the types of speech acts by politicians in political speech as well as their functions, in order to give a theoretical analysis about every utterance in political speech through context of meaning. The data were analyzed qualitatively where the researchers describe the results in the form of words and explanations by adopting Searle’s theory. It was found that the types of speech acts that mostly appeared in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s political speech are nine assertives, eight commissives and four directives. Each type of the speech acts delivered a different context of meaning. Keywords:  Speech Acts, Political Speech, Illocutionary

The law on sedition in India has been employed as a tool of harassment to curb free speech. This has resulted in widespread demands to repeal the provisions regarding sedition as it is seen as an archaic law that was meant to serve the colonial interests. In this paper, the researcher explores the law on sedition under section 124A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. The researcher seeks to propose an amendment to section 124A, by devising Austin’s Speech Acts Theory, Sorial’s exposition based on Austin’s theory and by accommodating the prevalent judicial interpretation into the existing provision.

The study explores the role of language in the communication and interpretation of intentions by analyzing the narration of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s political advertisement in Congressional Campaign in 2018. Hence, the study focuses on the pragmatic functions of locution, illocutionary and perlocutionary acts of the speeches. This study was conducted using the qualitative descriptive method. The findings show that the overall relative frequency percentages for the speech acts in Ocasio-Cortez’s 2018 political advertisement are: assertive 68%, directive 23%, commissive 4.5%, and declarative 4.5%. The results reflects that Ocasio-Cortez relied more on sentences that performed assertive acts than other speech acts since she wanted to introduce to the public who she is as an individual and what she is capable of as a future representative, and she also offered some relatable facts and situations that can appeal to the working class public to show that she’s on their sides. Using directive acts, she included herself as a part of the society and shows that she wants to make a change together with them, not on her own. This is a different approach to political advertisement since most of them rely more on the commissive acts by promising a better future for the society. This different strategy is something fresh that eventually played a part in her win in the 2018 Congressional District Election. Keywords:speech acts theory; pragmatics; political discourse; language and politics; political language.

The article is devoted to the scientific and theoretical analysis of the devices actualizing the content of the speech statements, since any speaker tries to fulfill his/her speech motions appropriately to the expected result. The practice of reaching a pragmatic effect in the communication, at the time of fulfilling the speech statements with special emphasis and precision, may have some specific nuances. In such process the speaker creates a speech statement delivering the information directly to the listener. This speech statement is neither lexical or grammatical phenomenon, but a pragmatic unit. Social role of interlocutors is of concern in choosing particular pragmatic-modal variant of the speech structure. The very process urges the following: 1) the characteristics of the person from birth (sex, nationality, nation); 2) social status; 3) position in a certain situation.

This essay explores the speech act of dogwhistling (sometimes referred to as ‘using coded language’). Dogwhistles may be overt or covert, and within each of these categories may be intentional or unintentional. Dogwhistles are a powerful form of political speech, allowing people to be manipulated in ways they would resist if the manipulation was carried outmore openly—often drawing on racist attitudes that are consciously rejected. If philosophers focus only on content expressed or otherwise consciously conveyed they may miss what is most powerful and pernicious in the speech of political culture. This essay is a call to start paying attention to these more covert speech acts, and a first attempt at beginning to theorize them. It argues that dogwhistles present a complex and interesting case for the philosopher of language, and explores their implications for democratic politics.

The community concept has maintained a constant and growing interest in urban studies and many related fields. The origin of this continuing interest seems to derive from the importance of the concept of community within diverse forms of political language and interpretations within different planning practices. In this contribution, through the analysis of different ethical and planning theories, we want to provide an update framework on community action. According to this objective, the argumentation will proceed through a literature review on four ethics theories and three key aspects related to spatial planning, as well as matching this theoretical analysis with exemplifying practices. The final objective is to provide an original analysis on drivers and outcomes of different forms of community, raising general issues that refer to spatial planning, social organization and regulation.

In this paper, we reflect on the ideology of political language delivered in political speech. We believe that language in political speech is a tool to spread hidden ideology. The impact of ideology can be positive, or it can also be negative for a nation. Our reflection deals with the revelation of ideology in the political speech text of the Indonesian politician, as well as Indonesian first president, Soekarno. Be based on grounded theory, we examined an important text of political speech that was delivered by Soekarno. The examination applied three main procedures to reveal ideology in text of political speech. The procedures are 1) by analyzing the main rhetorical devices that are used by the politician, 2) by analyzing the construction of the whole text, and 3) by reviewing the context of the situation and the background of the politician. As the results of applying the procedures, it was found that the ideologies of Soekarno’s political speech were ‘unity as the most important value for Indonesia’, revolution as the soul of Indonesia’ and, ‘imperialism as the main enemy of Indonesia’.

The splitting effect that is observed in microdiffraction pat-terns of small metallic particles in the size range 50-500 Å can be understood using the dynamical theory of electron diffraction for the case of a crystal containing a finite wedge. For the experimental data we refer to part I of this work in these proceedings.
