ABSTRACT This research aimed to characterize the biometry of seeds, the morphology of seedlings and to evaluate the initial growth of blue jacaranda trees (Jacaranda mimosifolia D. Don.) in two environments with distinct luminosity. The biometry of 100 de-winged seeds was measured by their length, width and thickness. One hundred seeds were sown into 300 cm3 tubes and seedlings morphology was registered throughout the germination process using digital photographs disposed sequentially according to seedlings age. The initial growth analysis was performed in two environments, full sun and greenhouse, during nine periods, and arranged in a complete randomized design with subplots. The response variables were: number of leaves, plant height, collar diameter, root length, aerial and roots dry weight, and Dickson’s Quality Index (DQI). Biometry results showed seeds 7.09 - 9.26 mm long, 6.74 -9.39 mm wide, and 1.11 -1.89 mm thick. Germination is of hypogealphanerocotylar type, with first root arising six days after sown. Plants at full sun presented larger collar diameters, greater root dry weight and higher DQI as evaluation periods passed by. In conclusion, the biometry of seeds and the morphology of seedlings of blue jacaranda can be used to recognize this species in the field. Plants at full sun presented better development. Seedlings cultivated at full sun can be destined to recuperate forests and degraded areas just 36 weeks after sowed.

The article is dealing with wood dust particle size problem in consideration of their fire and explosion. The aim of the thesis is statistical evaluation of wooden particles of Palisander (Jacaranda Mimosifolia) and Oak (Quercus robur L.). The samples were taken from the operation of the production furniture, in which dust is formed during the technology. Measurement was carried out by laser analyzer. Measurements were carried out on samples in specific time interval. Values, which were acquired, were evaluated of characteristics of the Weibull Distribution and treated in statistical program. It has been found by means of measurement and evaluation that sample of Palisander (Jacaranda Mimosifolia) has finer grain than sample of Oak (Quercus robur L.), therefore the has greater assumption to the creation of fire and explosions in process at the wood processing. We note in comparison with other sizes of wood particles, that the percentages are comparable.

R. Br. (Malvaceae); Caesalpinia gilliesii (Wall. ex Hook.) D. Dietr. (Fabaceae); Campsis radicans (L) Bureau (Bignoniaceae); Euphorbia milii Des Moul. (Euphorbiaceae); Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.; H. rosa-sinensis L. var. schizopetalus Boulger, H. mutabilis L., (Malvaceae); Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser. (Hydrangeaceae); Jacaranda mimosifolia D. Don (Bignoniaceae) y Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton (Oleaceae). San Miguel de Tucumán has ornamental vegetation of exotic and indigenous character distributed in streets and squares. The microscopic preparations were incorporated into the Palinoteca (PAL-TUC) of the Fundación Miguel Lillo (FML). Pictures were taken with OM (optical microscope) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). The pollen descriptions of this work extend previous studies made by various authors except in Hydrangea macrophylla and Jacaranda mimosifolia, of which no references on pollen morphology were found in previous works. Among the species studied, Ligustrum lucidum, was found in aero biological samples; whereas Brachychiton populneus, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, H. rosa-sinensis. var. schizopetalus and Euphorbia milii were found in melisopalinological samples.
