A wide variety of new wool fiber materials, such as super-fine sheep wool with the average diameter of about 11 μm, rabbit wool of long-hair rabbit, Wusuli raccoon dog wool, and vicuna wool, were developed except for sheep wool and cashmere in the wool textile industry. Tibetan antelope wool was not allowed to make a processing and trade, but it may have a development in the future. Meanwhile, other natural and chemical fibers were added as the raw materials in wool textile production because of their new functional requirements including antistativity, antibacterial, deodorant, improvement of strength and abrasion resistance, anti-electromagnetic radiation and improvement of flame retardancy. The raw materials of the wool textile industry have shown a magnificent development.

AbstractThe excellent craftsmanship of ancient Oriental and Central Asian textile dyers is already demonstrated in the remarkable brilliance and fastness of the colours of the so-called Pazyryk carpet, the by far oldest pile carpet found to date. This specimen resembles the advanced craftsmanship of Iron Age Central Asian textile production. We have employed synchrotron-based µ-XRF imaging to detect the distribution of metal organic pigments within individual fibres of the Pazyryk carpet (about 2500 years old) and compare the results to wool fibres, which we prepared according to traditional Anatolian dyeing recipes. We observe congruent pigment distribution within specimens from the Pazyryk carpet and natural wool fibres that we have fermented prior to dyeing. Therefore, we conclude that the superior fermentation technique has been utilized about 2000 years earlier than known so far.

Currently, the need to ensure adequate quality of air inside the living space but also the thermal efficiency of buildings is pressing. This paper presents the capacity of sheep wool heat-insulating mattresses to simultaneously provide these needs, cumulatively analyzing efficiency indicators for thermal insulation and indicators of improving air quality. Thus, the values obtained for the coefficient of thermal conductivity, and its resistance to heat transfer, demonstrate the suitability of their use for thermal insulation. The results of the permeability to water vapor characteristics on the sorption/desorption of water, air, demonstrate the ability to control the humidity of the indoor air and the results on the reduction of the concentration of formaldehyde, demonstrating their contribution to the growth of the quality of the air, and to reduce the risk of disease in the population.
