ABSTRACT The Indian government is currently developing scalable and sustainable smart city infrastructures to address the urbanization problem in India. However, the smart city project will only be successful if the people accept and use smart services. Therefore, this study investigates peoples’ acceptance of smart services using a modified unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model (UTAUT). The results demonstrate that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and attitude are significant factors in peoples’ usage intention toward smart services. Furthermore, the study tested the moderating effect of task-technology fit and perceived risk on the relationship between performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and attitude and usage intention. The study’s findings will help decision-makers and professional accountants to understand and implement robust accounting processes responsible for selecting the right digital tools for the right reasons to enhance peoples’ usage intention in a smart city environment.

FinTech platforms are one of the most important elements in the rapidly digitized world’s economy. This study investigates the factors that affected individuals’ acceptance of FinTech services, especially on internet wealth management platforms. The current research extends the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) published by MIS Quarterly with integrated financial consumption attributes (i.e., perceived value and perceived risk) alongside the core construct of UTAUT. Data were collected from an established survey company. The empirical results indicate that perceived value, perceived risk, and social influence are strongly related to individuals’ FinTech adoption intention, whereas performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and perceived risk affect individuals’ perceived value, which in turn influences adoption intention. The proposed FinTech adoption model could contribute to information technology (IT) adoption research by extending the UTAUT in which individuals’ performance expectancy and effort expectancy affect their adoption intention indirectly through perceived value. Finally, the implications of the proposed new model for future research and FinTech practice are discussed.

The e-payment system in India is experiencing a massive transformation. Mobile phones and e-commerce are growing rapidly and consumers are showing affinity towards digital technology. Indian government is also stepping up by launching “Digital India” initiative to accelerate the awareness, availability and adoption of digital technologies. Today Indian govt., businessman and people are exploring the possibility to move towards a cashless economy. Still these days’ cash remain main mode of transaction amongst the people. As per KPMG report 2017 and the rate of e-payment adoption is increased by approx. ten percent and expected to further increment. The purpose of the study is to analyze behavioral intentions of Indian consumer about e-payment with an application of the UTAUT2 model (unified theory of acceptance and use of technology). This study has applied UTAUT-2 model as a conceptual framework and has considered performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, and habit. For this, the study has targeted 300 respondents based on non-probability convenience sampling method. The data would be processed and analyzed using SPSS version 20 and hypotheses would be performed by applying multiple regression analysis. The biggest challenge in the growth of e-payment in Indian is skeptical mindset of people and their concern about safety and security. People scare that their device can be hacked or virus can be attacked. These serious issues should be addressed by the govt. Furthermore, India faces the challenge of limited adoption of fixed broadband. The work needs to be done in terms of improving the internet infrastructure in the country. This study is contributing to the existing body of knowledge in area of e-payment where there is a research vacuum especially in context of India. Furthermore, it helps to understand the impact of UTAUT 2 models variates on behavioral intention among Indians about e-payment which is again researched by very few people. The outcomes of this study would be beneficial to govt., policy makers, banks, online transaction facilities providers and software developers in developing strategies about e-payment acceptance and use. As this study is confined to India only, its findings may be generalized to other countries directly.

We explored the precise impacts of trust and perceived risk on the core constructs of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). We applied the UTAUT model to the novel context of the Certified e-Document Authority (CeDA) service used in the Republic of Korea. Our results from structural equation modeling largely supported our hypotheses. Trust and perceived risk were shown to be direct antecedents of intention to use, and trust functioned as an indirect antecedent. Performance expectancy and social influence were shown to positively affect behavioral intention. Effort expectancy was also shown to influence performance expectancy. The combination of trust, perceived risk, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence accounted for 55.3% of the variance observed in users' intention to use CeDA services.

This study investigated the factors that influence Ghanaian entrepreneurs to adopt e-commerce. Cross-sectional data was gathered from 520 entrepreneurs in the most populous and industrious regions in Ghana. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) was employed to effectively understand the unexplored phenomenon of e-commerce adoption among Ghanaian entrepreneurs. Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the hypothesized relationships. The findings indicate that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence (SI) positively and significantly influenced the behavioral intention (BI) to adopt e-commerce. Facilitating conditions (FC) and BI had a significant positive relationship with the adoption of e-commerce.

The purpose of this article was to investigate the moderating effects of gender on e-commerce systems adoption factors among university lecturers in Ghana. In order to achieve this purpose, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) was used as the theoretical lens for the study. Eight hypotheses were developed and tested. Data analysis was performed with a structural equation modeling (SEM) technique using SmartPLS Application. Using a survey of 223 respondents, the study showed that factors such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions positively and significantly influenced Ghanaian lecturers' behavioral intention and ultimately the actual use of e-commerce systems. As for the moderating effects of gender, this study discovered that gender insignificantly moderated the effects of performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence on behavioral intention.

Online gambling has skyrocketed in recent years. As such, knowing the determinants of consumer usage behavior is crucial in understanding online gambling services. This study has as main objective the construction of an explanatory model of the online gambling services usage behavior, based on the incorporation of perceived risk in the conceptual framework of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2). The empirical validation of the model was performed by conducting an online survey to a convenience sample of 212 Portuguese online players. Data were processed using the PLS-SEM methodology. The results evidence that performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivations, price value, habits, as well as perceived risk influence the intention to use online gambling services.

Purpose This study aims to identify factors affecting tourists’ intention of using travel apps installed in their smartphones. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was developed largely based on the available scales in the published literature. A total of 389 participants responded to the survey, out of which 343 valid responses were obtained for statistical analysis. Findings Significant predictors of smartphone app usage intention included performance expectancy, social influence, price saving, perceived risk, perceived trust and prior usage habits. Usage behavior was largely mediated by usage intention, except in the case of habits. Contrary to the expectation, factors such as hedonistic motivation, facilitating conditions or effort expectancy did not impact usage intention or behavior. Practical implications The study gives app developers vital cues on tourist expectations from the apps. Oftentimes, developers tend to focus entirely on the material utility of their apps, neglecting every other factor influencing use. One particular implication is that despite tourism being a hedonistic activity, travel app usage behavior is not a hedonistic activity. Originality/value This is one of the few studies to examine adoption of smartphone travel apps in an emerging economy context by using extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology framework with additional constructs.
