As public attention on sustainability is increasing, the use of polysaccharides as rheological modifiers in skin-care products is becoming the first choice. Polysaccharide associations can be used to increase the spreading properties of products and to optimize their sensorial profile. Since the choice of natural raw materials for cosmetics is wide, instrumental methodologies are useful for formulators to easily characterize the materials and to create mixtures with specific applicative properties. In this work, we performed rheological and texture analyses on samples formulated with binary and ternary associations of polysaccharides to investigate their structural and mechanical features as a function of the concentration ratios. The rheological measurements were conducted under continuous and oscillatory flow conditions using a rotational rheometer. An immersion/de-immersion test conducted with a texture analyzer allowed us to measure some textural parameters. Sclerotium gum and iota-carrageenan imparted high viscosity, elasticity, and firmness in the system; carob gum and pectin influenced the viscoelastic properties and determined high adhesiveness and cohesiveness. The results indicated that these natural polymers combined in appropriate ratios can provide a wide range of different textures and that the use of these two complementary techniques represents a valid pre-screening tool for the formulation of green products.

This work reports the synthesis and characterization of a conjugated polymer based on fluorene and terpyridine, namely, poly[(9,9-bis(3-((S)-2-methylbutylpropanoate))fluorene-alt-6,6′-(2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridin-6-yl)] (LaPPS71). The structure was characterized by 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The molar mass was measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). As thermal characterization, the glass transition temperature (Tg) was measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polymer structure contains two sites capable of complexation with metallic ions, affording the possibility of obtainment of independent or electronically coupled properties, depending on the complexation site. The photophysical properties were fully explored in solution and solid state, presenting ideal results for the preparation of various metallopolymers, in addition to potential application as a metamaterial, due to the presence of the chiral center in the side chains of the polymer.

Background and Objectives: The resistance of microbes against anti-bacteriological drugs leading to countless deaths and terminal ailments remains a basis for concern. Hence, the main interest of this study was to design, synthesize and report unusual compounds with basic hydrophilic moieties plus hydrophobic functions for anti-bacteriological studies. Materials and Methods: Analytical (melting points, micro-analysis (C. H.N.S) magnetic susceptibility (µeff), molar conductance plus solubility test) methods; spectral (Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR)), electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (1H- plus 13C-NMR), electronic(UV-Vis)) measurements; theoretical (DFT) evaluations were utilized for the characterization of the chelator and its chelates. All synthesized compounds were examined for antimicrobial and antioxidant potentials while the chelator was singly evaluated for solvent extractive capacity. Results: A nitrogenous based chelator-ligand, (E)-1-(((4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl)imino)methyl) naphthalen-2-ol(LH) synthesized through reflux-condensation reaction of 2-amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine with 2-hydroxy-1-napthaldehyde was acquired. Further reflux of the chelator-ligand with bivalent ions of iron-sulphate and zinc-acetate salts plus 2,2’-bipyridine resulted into separate bivalent-heteroleptic metallic chelates. The deprotonated nitrogen of the amine moiety and carbon of the carbonyl gave rise to the chelator-ligand with N2O2 chromophore detected around the metallic atom in the chelates. The µeff data plus UV-Vis spectral values of the chelates conformed to 6-coordinate octahedral geometry. All the chelates were high spin and non-ionic in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The antimicrobial and antioxidant screening of the compounds presented moderate to fantastic results, while the metallic extractive proficiency of the chelator showed outstanding extractability for Fe2+ and Zn2+ions with an efficiency of 79.34% and 51.92% correspondingly. Conclusion: All the synthesized compounds are novel and demonstrated prospective biological, plus metallic ions’ extractive potentials required for designs plus isolation of products also for such actions.

2024-T6 Al alloy sheet s were modified by bis-[triethoxysilylpropyl] tetrasulfide (BTESPT) silane film to improve the corrosion resistance. Fourier-Transform Reflection Absorption (FTIR-RA) spectroscopy was used for structural characterization of BTESPT silane film formed on surface of the sheet. Potentiodynamic polarization and immersion test in 3.5% NaCl solution were used for evaluating the corrosion performances of the silane film. The results showed that the film formed after curing at 120 °C for 40 min was cross-linked through Si-O-Si and that it was covered on the entire surface of the sheet. The content of elements S and Si on the Al2CuMg particles is a little higher that of on the matrix. The strong peak at 1032 cm-1 indicated that the film was linked to the sheet by Si-O-Al. Compared to the untreated case, the corrosion current density of the sheet treated with the silane film was reduced by close to 2 orders. Treatment of BTESPT silane can provide about 670 h protection of corrosion for the sheet in 3.5% NaCl water solution.

With the rapid development of marine transportation industry, biological fouling not only affects the speed of navigation but also highly increases fuel consumption. In the paper, a novel hydrogel-based fouling release coating is developed to address the issue by a combination of non-stick property with a low surface tension of the coating. A hydrogel-based silicone fouling release coating was synthesized and two kinds of different intermediate coatings were studied to give a proper match as the tie layer between the substrate coated with primer and the hydrogel silicone on the surface. The adhesion strength, surface tension as well as surface topography of the fouling release coating were studied. The corrosion resistance and anti-fouling performance of the substrates sprayed with the coating were characterized by salt spray test and immersion test in a simulated marine system. The results show that the adhesion between the substrate and the fouling release coating is grade two measured by grid test. The water contact angle of the coating is 104.8o and Rz of the coating is 10.71μm. The specimen is intact after 1000 hours under salt spray test. No diatom was found settled on the specimens in a simulated static marine system while a little diatom was observed on the specimens in a simulated dynamic marine system. It has been found that the intermediate coating comprising of epoxy resin gives proper match between the primer and the fouling release coating consisting of PDMS resin. The coating exhibits superior anti-fouling performance under stationary state.
