The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical performance of composite restorations placed with different adhesive systems in primary teeth. In 32 patients, 128 composite restorations were placed using a split-mouth design as follows (4 groups/patient): three-step etch-and-rinse (Group 1), two-step etch-and-rinse (Group 2), two-step self-etch (Group 3), and one-step self-etch (Group 4). The restorations were clinically evaluated at baseline and at 6, 18, and 36 months according to the FDI criteria. There was no significant difference between the adhesive systems in retention of the restorations (p>0.05). Over time, there was a statistically significant decrease in marginal adaptation in all groups, whereas surface and marginal staining significantly increased in Groups 3 and 4 (p<0.05). The etch-and-rinse adhesive systems resulted in better marginal adaptation than the self-etch adhesive systems (p<0.05). It was concluded that preetching of the primary enamel might help improve the clinical performance of the self-etch adhesive systems in primary teeth.

Clinical Relevance This mild, two-step self-etch adhesive system showed acceptable clinical performance in Class III cavities after three years. Additional etching of the enamel margins improved the marginal quality of restorations bonded with this adhesive system.

Clinical Relevance The teeth in this report were restored with a two-step self-etch adhesive system and a microhybrid resin composite. The teeth present with an excellent clinical performance and patient acceptance at the end of a six-year recall.

This study evaluated the one-year clinical performance of a one-step, self-etch adhesive (Optibond All-in-One, Kerr, CA, USA) combined with a composite (Herculite XRV Ultra, Kerr Hawe, CA, USA) to restore NCCLs with or without prior acid etching. Restorations performed by the same practitioner were evaluated at baseline and after 3, 6, and 12 months using modified USPHS criteria. At 6 months, the recall rate was 100%. The retention rate was 84.2% for restorations with prior acid etching, but statistically significant differences were observed between baseline and 6 months. Without acid etching, the retention rate was 77%, and no statistically significant difference was noted between 3 and 6 months. Marginal integrity (93.7% with and 87.7% without acid etching) and discoloration (95.3% with and 92.9% without acid etching) were scored as Alpha or Bravo, with better results after acid etching. After one year, the recall rate was 58.06%. Loss of pulp vitality, postoperative sensitivity, or secondary caries were not observed. After one year retention rate was of 90.6% and 76.9% with and without acid conditioning. Optibond All-in-One performs at a satisfactory clinical performance level for restoration of NCCLs after 12 months especially after acid etching.

Clinical Relevance The effect of surface preparation was adhesive-dependent. Improvements in resin-enamel bond strength after enamel preparation were observed only for AdheSE and Optibond Solo plus Self-Etch Primer. Among the self-etch systems, mild, self-etch Clearfil SE Bond showed the highest bond strength values. No degradation of resin-enamel bonds was observed after 12 months of water storage, regardless of the adhesive tested.

Background : White Spot Lesion (WSL) is caused by Streptococcus Mutan which causes demineralization of teeth. One of the treatments of WSL is topical application of fluoride which aims to remineralize the teeth. However, if topical fluoride treatment does not give satisfactory results, alternative treatments can be made using restorative treatments, one of which is veneers. The procedure for applying veneers requires the application of an adhesive system. The adhesive system used to apply veneers is self-etch and total-etch. Several references state that the application of fluoride which aims to remineralize teeth can influence the adhesiv strength of the restorative material using self etch and total-etch techniques. Purpose : To determine the effect of composite resin adhesion strength between total-etch and self etch techniques on enamel after fluoride application. Review : Literature sources used in the preparation of the article through several databases with descriptions of the effects of fluoride application before total-etch and/or self etch administration. From the existing references, it was found that the application of fluoride before the total-etch system had a less significant effect on the adhesiv strength. Whereas in the self etch system, fluoride application has a significant effect on the adhesiv strength. Conclusion : More references say that the application of fluoride before the total-etch system has a better adhesive strength than the application of fluoride before the self etch system

Clinical Relevance The improvement of resin-enamel bond strengths after using Si-C paper and diamond burs for enamel preparation is material dependent. No degradation of enamel bond strength could be observed for any one-step self-etch adhesive system after 12 months of water storage.

SUMMARY Objective: To compare the 24-month clinical performance of two different resin composites in class II slot restorations. Methods and Materials: Thirty-seven patients having at least two approximal carious lesions were enrolled in the study. A total of 116 teeth (58 pairs) were restored with either a silorane-based composite (Filtek Silorane) and its self-etch adhesive (Silorane Adhesive System, 3M ESPE) or a methacrylate-based packable resin composite (X-tra Fil) and its self-etch adhesive (Futurabond NR, VOCO GmbH) according to the toss of a coin. The restorations were evaluated at baseline and at six-, 12-, and 24-month recalls by two calibrated examiners according to the modified US Public Health Service criteria. The comparison of the two restorative materials for each category was performed with the Pearson chi-square test. Within group differences of the materials at different recall times were compared using the Cochran Q and Friedman tests. Bonferroni-adjusted McNemar test was used when significant difference was found (p&lt;0.05). Results: After 24 months, no statistically significant differences were found between the two restorative materials for the criteria evaluated. Conclusions: Both silorane- and methacrylate-based resin composites showed clinically acceptable performance in class II slot restorations after 24 months.
