Religious texts talk about love. The present paper comments on a few texts read by early Christians. There are several texts in the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible (the Septuagint), and in the New Testament, where the specific Jewish-Christian word agapē, translated “love”, occurs. The texts were originally used in contexts where relations between humans followed norms that are not immediately recognizable to us, and words describing relations refer to experiences, emotions and ideas partly foreign to late modern readers. In the Gospel of John love is envisaged in hierarchical relations. God is the supreme. John’s Jesus calls him the Father. Jesus has kept his Father’s commandments, and Jesus passes the commandment to love on to believers, those below him in the hierarchy. In the book of Deuteronomy Jewish and Christian readers could hear that the Lord had “set his heart in love” on their ancestors (Deut 10). The assertion is surrounded by several commandments, expressing what the Lord requires of those involved in the divine love relation. These formulations seem originally to have been couched in the political language of the time. How relevant can these texts be for late modern notions of divine love and human love?

The question of what home means and how it relates to subjectivity has fresh urgency in light of pervasive contemporary migration, which ruptures the human self, and painful relational poverty, which characterizes much of modern life. Yet the Augustinian heritage that situates true home and right attachment outside this world has clouded theological conceptualizations of earthly belonging. This book engages this neglected topic and argues for the goodness of home, which it construes relationally rather than spatially. In dialogue with research in the neuroscience of attachment theory and contemporary constructions of the self, the book advances a theological argument for the function of love attachments as sources of subjectivity and enablers of human freedom. The book shows that paradoxically the depth of human belonging—thus, dependence—is directly proportional to the strength of human agency—hence, independence. Building on Søren Kierkegaard’s imagery alongside other sources, the book depicts human love as interwoven with the infinite streams of divine love, forming a sacramental site for God’s presence, and playing a constitutive role in the making of the self. The book portrays the self both as gifted from God in inchoate form and as engaged in continuous, albeit nonlinear becoming via experiences of human love. The Holy Spirit indwells the attachment space between human beings as a middle term preventing its implosion or dissolution and conferring a stability that befits the concept of home. The interstitial space between loving human persons subsists both anthropologically and pneumatologically and generates the self’s home.

This article aims to answer the question of what belongs to the essence of the church, as God intended it to be, by identifying certain indicators of the essence of the church through a study of one of the central metaphors of the New Testament: the vine in the Gospel of John. Through structural analyses, commentary and metaphorical analyses, several indicators of unity as part of the essence of the church emerge in this metaphor. These indicators are the primacy (or authority) of Christ, trinitarian balance, equality, interdependence, inclusivity, growth and unity (in diversity).Hierdie artikel poog om die volgende vraag te beantwoord: Wat behoort tot die essensie van kerkwees soos God dit bedoel het? Dit word gedoen deur sekere aanwysers van die essensie van kerkwees te identifiseer vanuit ’n studie van een van die essensiële metafore vir kerkwees in die Nuwe Testament, naamlik die Wynstok in die Evangelie van Johannes. Deur middel van struktuuranalise, kommentaar en metaforiese analise kom verskeie eenheidsaanwysers as deel van die essensie van kerkwees in hierdie metafoor na vore. Hierdie aanwysers is die hoër gesag (of outoriteit) van Christus, die balans van die Drie-eenheid, gelykheid, interafhanklikheid, inklusiwiteit, groei en eenheid (in diversiteit).

This article indicated a model for a scientific description of styles of political leadership in Serbia from 1990 to the present, more precisely, pointed the basic elements of concept developed by the author in the study ?The style of political leaders in Serbia in the period 1990-2006? (2010). For the evaluation the author uses analytical tools that include the aforementioned concept, simultaneously indicating correlative theoretical approaches the aforementioned study did not examine, and may be of importance for the research of political elites in Serbia. This contributes the epistemological part of the method, which is registered in the definition of the style of political leadership as a term and the category apparatus that follows - understood from the aspect of the political style: the style in building political power, the style of political communication, the style of building one?s legitimacy, the ideological style, the styles of political language, symbolism and rituals, non-verbal communication and style in expressing patriotism. Starting from the fact that political styles are related to characteristics of political cultures and that it is necessary to make a concept of ideal typical models of styles focused on political subjects, this article marked the styles of political leadership typology related to the specific acting of political leaders in Serbia: authoritarian, republican, realistic, populist, conformist, revolutionary and style of a politician-rebel.

This study aimed at finding out the figures of speech used by the government in the political language variation and the purposes to which they serve. On the basis of the data analysis, it was found that there are sixteen types of figures of speech contained in the political language variation, for example, euphemism, repetition, parallelism, personification, parable, anticlimax, sarcasm, trope, hyperbole, pleonasm, climax, antithesis, synecdoche, anaphor, allusion, and metonymy. The purposes of their uses are to vary sentences, to show respect, to express something in a polite manner, and to give an emphasis or stress meanings. The suggestion made in relation to the uses of the figures of speech in political language variation is for the authority (government) to use words or phrases that are simple to make it easy for the people to understand.

This essay attempts to study and explicate the method of reading as operative in Ambedkar’s writings. The essay is organized around five thematic sections, each aimed at discussing a methodological concern guiding Ambedkar’s investigations. His engagements with the religious texts of Hinduism in general and the Manusmriti (The Laws of Manu or The Law Code of Manu) in particular have been used here to explicate the substance and implications of what has been described by Aishwary Kumar as Ambedkar’s ‘politics of reading’, a highly suggestive phrase that points towards the political as well as epistemic stakes of Ambedkar’s acts of reading.

<p>ABSTRACT<br />Communication and language are two phenomena from one reality. Language is a means of expressing ways of communicating, and it reciprocally presupposes with communication. Where there is communication, language presence is demanded. Hence the language exists as a medium of communication. This study analyses the language battles of “Cebong-Kampret” on Facebook groups. Two aspects are investigated in this research: logic and ethics. The logic requires the use of language by rules. Language can be understood within the framework of rationality. Ethics requires language that creating peace rather than encouraging hatred. How is the language contested in the battle of “Cebong Kampret” on Facebook? Facebook is a web-based media technology that has its characteristics, such as easily accessed and reach a wider audience. Everyone can be a creator of meaning. The communication process is synchronous and encourages the user’s instant response. This characteristic carries risks. Facebook, in the political context of “Cebong-Kampret,” is paradoxical. People’s political preferences are influenced by Facebook even though the language ignores the logical-ethical language rules. The fight of language in politics is justified as far as upholding the logic and ethics. Logic language teaches the principles based on standards. Misuse of language logic makes language lose its ethical value in practice. Komunikasi menyertakan bahasa. Bahasa sebagai alat mengekspresikan berbagai cara berkomunikasi. Bahasa dan komunikasi saling mengandaikan. Dimana terdapat kegiatan berkomunikasi bahasa dituntut kehadirannya. Bahasa hadir sebagai media ekspresi aktivitas komunikasi. Kajian ini menganalisis pertarungan bahasa kelompok “Cebong” dan “Kampret” di facebook. Dua aspek dianalisis, yaitu logika dan etika berbahasa. Logika berbahasa mensyaratkan penggunaan bahasa menurut kaidah sehingga bisa dimengerti dalam kerangka rasionalitas. Etika mensyaratkan penggunaan bahasa yang menciptakan perdamaian bukan mendorong kebencian. Apa yang terjadi dengan bahasa yang dipertarungkan “Cebong” dan “Kampret” di facebook? Facebook adalah media berbasis teknologi web. Dia memiliki karakteristik sendiri, seperti: Dapat diakses dengan mudah. Menjangkau khalayak lebih luas. Setiap orang bisa menjadi pencipta makna. Proses komunikasi berlangsung sinkronik. Mendorong respon instan penggunanya. Karakteristik ini mengandung risiko. Penggunaan facebook, dalam konteks politik “Cebong” dan “Kampret” bersifat paradoks. Preferensi pilihan politik masyarakat dipengaruhi facebook padahal bahasa yang digunakan mengabaikan aturan berbahasa secara logis-etis. Pertarungan bahasa dalam politik dibenarkan sejauh menjunjung tinggi logika dan etika berbahasa. Logika berbahasa mengajarkan prinsip berbahasa berdasarkan aturan. Penyalahgunaan logika berbahasa membuat bahasa kehilangan nilai etis dalam praktiknya. Etika berbahasa mengajar prinsip pemakaian bahasa yang baik.
