Abstract Background The inedible wastes generated from vegetables and fruits are one of the sources of environmental pollution if not utilized or disposed-off in a proper way. Research is focused on the utilization of these wastes as potential resources rather than undesirable and unwanted products in order to avoid contamination of natural resources. Syzygium cumini (black plum) seeds and Allium cepa (onion) peels were studied. These wastes were fermented and phyto-components of these wastes were determined by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS). The phyto-components were examined for their pharmacokinetics properties like drug-likeness and toxicity. The open source softwares, DruLiTo and VEGA QSAR, were used to perform the aforementioned study. Result GCMS: Twenty phyto-components were identified by performing GCMS analysis of the methanol extracts of fermented Syzygium cumini seeds and fermented Allium cepa peels. DruLiTo: Four phyto-components each from the methanol extracts of Syzygium cumini seeds and Allium cepa peels followed all the drug-likeness rules. VEGA QSAR: Six phyto-components of methanol extract of fermented Syzygium cumini seeds were identified as non-mutagenic whereas nine phyto-components of methanol extract of fermented Allium cepa peels were non-mutagenic. Collectively two phyto-components of methanol extracts of Syzygium cumini seeds and four phyto-components of methanol extracts of Allium cepa possess the pharmacokinetic properties. Conclusion The phyto-components predicted to be drug-like and non-mutagenic can be further studied as ligands for bacterial and cancerous targets by the means of in-silico docking approach/techniques. The exploration carries supportive data for future examinations that can lead to their therapeutic use.

AbstractVenetoclax (VEN), a small-molecule inhibitor of B cell leukemia/lymphoma-2, is now FDA approved (November 2018) for use in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), specific to newly diagnosed elderly or unfit patients, in combination with a hypomethylating agent (HMA; including azacitidine or decitabine) or low-dose cytarabine. A recent phase-3 study compared VEN combined with either azacitidine or placebo, in the aforementioned study population; the complete remission (CR) and CR with incomplete count recovery (CRi) rates were 28.3% and 66.4%, respectively, and an improvement in overall survival was also demonstrated. VEN-based chemotherapy has also shown activity in relapsed/refractory AML (CR/CRi rates of 33–46%), high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (CR 39% in treatment naïve, 5–14% in HMA failure), and blast-phase myeloproliferative neoplasm (CR 25%); in all instances, an additional fraction of patients met less stringent criteria for overall response. Regardless, venetoclax-induced remissions were often short-lived (less than a year) but long enough to allow some patients transition to allogeneic stem cell transplant. Herein, we review the current literature on the use of VEN-based combination therapy in both acute and chronic myeloid malignancies and also provide an outline of procedures we follow at our institution for drug administration, monitoring of adverse events and dose adjustments.

People live in a world of stereotypes that exist everywhere, in all spheres of human life and activity. A stereotype is a cultural phenomenon, that can be found in any society in the form of centuries-old experience of a given society, transmitted from generation to genera-tion by images transformed in accordance with the era and the level of society develop-ment.The culture and literature of any nation contain a rich gallery of stereotypes. The existence of a stereotype without culture is inconceivable. And culture itself is a certain set of stereotypes that defines and, therefore, limits human actions. One of the priority areas of modern anthropocentric and human sciences is the study of the formation and functioning of gender stereotypes, the identification and analy-sis of their intercultural specificity. Contrary to the objectives of the aforementioned study, our multilateral research is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of a woman, as repre-sentations of the stereotypical image of national-cultural identity in different literary eras. The present article deals with the study of the stereotypical image of a woman in medieval Western and Georgian literature. For this purpose we have identified and analyzed the rich material that exists in the culture and literature of different people. Our study is based on the depiction of a stereo-typical image of a woman from a different perspective, for example: woman - king, woman - diplomat, woman – public figure, woman - creator, woman - mother, woman - wife/lover, woman - strong/weak creature, woman - symbol of fidelity, etc.

Mathematics word problems have been used as a pedagogical tool for centuries and are now an enduring feature of contemporary mathematics education. However, a study by Gros et al. in 2019 counterintuitively found that both expert and non-expert mathematicians are often unable to solve simple arithmetic equations when they are presented as word problems. The conclusions of this study were that the world semantics of the word problem affected the mathematical encoding of problems, especially for cardinal questions to do with the sizes of sets In this article we identify examples of apparently overlooked ambiguity in the word problems used in the aforementioned study, which appear to be more frequent in the cardinal problems, and which leads us to question the conclusions drawn by the authors. In the remainder of the article, we discuss more generally the ways in which linguistics and semantics may hinder the reduction of mathematics word problems to arithmetic equations and consider the pragmatics of studies which aim to assess mathematical ability using word problems.

Several studies have used interdependent group contingencies to decrease disruptive behavior and increase appropriate behavior for groups of adolescents. In addition, one study demonstrated that rules plus feedback about rule violations, without additional group contingencies, decreased problem behavior and increased appropriate behavior for adolescents in three classrooms within a residential juvenile facility. Given the rapid behavior change observed in the aforementioned study, it is possible behavior changes were produced by reactivity to obtrusive observation from program implementers. To address this question, we used two A-B designs in conjunction with the conservative dual-criterion (CDC) method to evaluate the extent to which obtrusive observation alone and rules, without systematic consequences, decreased problem behaviors in two classrooms within a residential juvenile facility. Results from visual and CDC analyses indicate that (a) obtrusive observation did not affect problem behavior in either classroom and (b) rules decreased problem behavior in both classrooms and increased appropriate behavior in one classroom. In addition, a measure of social validity indicated that the procedures and outcomes were acceptable to the classroom teacher.

Abstract We present a two-species model with applications in tumour modelling. The main novelty is the coupling of both species through the so-called Brinkman law which is typically used in the context of visco-elastic media, where the velocity field is linked to the total population pressure via an elliptic equation. The same model for only one species has been studied by Perthame and Vauchelet in the past. The first part of this paper is dedicated to establishing existence of solutions to the problem, while the second part deals with the incompressible limit as the stiffness of the pressure law tends to infinity. Here we present a novel approach in one spatial dimension that differs from the kinetic reformulation used in the aforementioned study and, instead, relies on uniform BV-estimates.

AbstractThe construction industry, and especially residential building construction activity, represents a significant part of a country’s general economy, directly affecting GDP through construction, maintenance and renovation, as well as indirectly with notarial acts and banking transactions. Indeed, in many economies, residential building activity is at the heart of economic growth and, consequently, acts as a regulator in economic development. The main purpose of this paper is to contribute to the debate on the significance of pursuing a suitable government policy on the real estate market. The research objectives are: a) to review the existing literature regarding the importance of the housing sector in the general economy; b) to “capture” the link between residential construction activity and economic development in Balkan Peninsula, pursuing supplementary research for the country of Albania; and c) to present the results of the aforementioned study in order to draw important conclusions.
