Accreditation of technical institutions is very important to guarantee the quality of technical education that is being offered. Outcome based education (OBE) is followed in the delivery of technical education across all Institutions in India and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), which is the nodal accreditation body for technical institutions in India follows outcome based accreditation (OBA) in the accreditation of technical programs. In the OBE and OBA, faculty constitutes the most important component and plays an important role in facilitation of the same. In this regard, the authors felt that there is a need to understand the level of awareness of faculty about the same and accordingly a survey was conducted among the faculty of the authors’ institution, which is an autonomous Institution and comes under Tier I scheme of NBA accreditation process. From among 285 faculty members, about 96 participated in the survey. This paper discusses the significance of faculty’s awareness and involvement in the accreditation process and implementation of OBE. The results of the survey indicate some interesting findings, which is discussed in detail. Some suggestions and guidelines are given at the end to increase the level of awareness and their involvement in the OBE and OBA processes respectively.

BACKGROUND: Doctor-patient relationship [DPR] refers to verbal and non-verbal communication between doctor and patient, which is of great importance in consultation sessions. AIM: Therefore, the present study attempts to explore the importance and value of DPR in Iran. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The method used in the study was conventional content analysis. The data were collected from 21 faculty members (FMs) of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS), Shiraz, Iran, who participated in three focus group discussions (FGDs). Transcribed data were analysed using Conventional Content Analysis (CCA) which identified condensed meaning units, subthemes, and themes. RESULTS: Four themes were extracted from 198 meaning units, 87 condensed meaning units, and 17 subthemes. These included gateway [the role of DPR]; nonlinearity [the nature of DPR]; distortion (quality of DPR in the context); and dysfunctional system (weakness in health system). Generally, results showed DPR to be the gateway to consultations based on non-verbal communication and doctor empathy. The study showed distorted DPR which was due to the dysfunctionality of the health care system. CONCLUSION: As indicated DPR plays an important role in medical contexts, but if distorted it leads to an unsuccessful outcome. Therefore, to promote DPR, it is necessary to reinforce its structure. Thus, the infrastructure has to be modified and developed at all levels.

The aim of this study was to investigate the role and influence of nursing in the hospital accreditation process. It is a qualitative study, conducted in a private hospital of Belo Horizonte. The study subjects were nine nurses and 15 nursing technicians. Data collection was through semi-structured interviews, which were subjected to content analysis. The results showed that the role of the nursing team in the accreditation involves care, administrative, educational and research issues. The study subjects presented different perceptions regarding the influence of the accreditation process in their work. The positive aspects of personal growth and valorization of the curriculum were highlighted as well as negative aspects such as stress and little professional valorization. Therefore, it is necessary that the professionals understand the logic of the process and act with a view to the interdisciplinarity and overcoming the fragmentation of care, thus achieving integral healthcare and the quality of care desired.

The need to enhance local capability is one of most Kuwaiti government priorities that is embodied in the overall governmental plan. In fact, the Kuwaiti government has exerted efforts to forge the College of Technological Studies, CTS, in order to equipped students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are required by essential sector in the country’s economy (e.g., Oil and Electricity and Water). However, the success of the College of Technological Studies in achieving its objectives would rely on the competencies of the CTS management and academic staff in meeting industrial requirements. The shaping and enhancing of student’s ability in managing, maintaining, and adapting the imported technology in industries would rely on the level of academic staff knowledge, skills, experience, and attitude in meeting industrial requirements. The efficiency of the promotion system for academic staff would indeed contribute significantly to shaping the standard of the CTS graduates. The need to absorb and evaluate the current status of the CTS academic staff promotion system must be one of highly management priority in order to achieve the CTS overall objectives. The aim of this paper is to identify and examine the efficiency of the academic staff promotion system. Several issues would be investigated and examined. Among which: the criteria’s applied in selected and approving academic journals, the criteria’s required for promoting academic staff, work ethics and its relation to the academic staff promotion system, and the obstacles that might face the CTS management in applying the academic staff promotion system. The paper would conclude that unless the management of the CTS realised and appreciate the significant role of the academic staff promotion system, industries would continue to rely on expatriate for years ahead.

Excitement, the strong positive affect engendered by new information, plays a key role in creative learning. The department chair noted as problematic for all programs that very few of our graduate students became faculty at major universities. But many of the students of Karon did become faculty at major universities, one index of quality of graduate training, as well as becoming competent psychotherapists. This was not because of any direct encouragement to become faculty members. The difference in his approach to graduate education from that of his colleagues can be summarized in four principles. First, remember that graduate students are just like the faculty, except that they are younger. Consequently, they have done less and read less. Second, teach what you know. Particularly if you have done original work, teach that. Your excitement will communicate itself. Third, encourage them to take their own work seriously, including their own research and clinical observations. Their own ideas are as valuable and as worth exploring and developing as any in the literature. Finally, if they are bright, get out of their way. This is related to Tomkins’ theory of the role of affects, especially interest-excitement, in learning and intellectual creativity.

The study mainly aimed at identifying the role of using cloud computing in improving the quality of accounting education in Palestinian universities in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, and to answer research questions and test the study hypotheses, the researchers adopted the descriptive and analytical approach, and the questionnaire was used as a study tool, and the study community is formed of the (63) members of the teaching staff working in the accounting departments in the faculties of commerce in the Palestinian universities in Gaza Strip, and due to the small size of the community, the method of comprehensive community enumeration was used. The results of the study also found that the use of cloud computing in accounting education helps faculty members and students to access and retrieve their files and applications at any time and from anywhere in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and it also helps develop students' technological skills to suit the requirements of the labor market. The study also recommended the necessity of using cloud computing in accounting education in Palestinian universities for its role in developing the professional and technological skills of students, and improving their educational attainment by obtaining the largest amount of useful information, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As college student enrollment continues to decline on regional and national levels, faculty members and administrators alike are increasingly concerned about the corresponding loss in revenue. Closely aligned with this concern, and also with the increased intensity of recruitment activities, is the emphasis on college student retention. At the same time, the quality of academic advising provided to an institution's students is being carefully scrutinized, particularly for its relationship to retention. This article reports on the results of a questionnaire dealing with faculty and student perceptions of the role of advising and the advisor in academic institutions.

Several researchers have noticed the role of technical and engineering education in economic progress. For quality of technical and engineering education, accreditation and quality enhancement are two important processes. This study was conducted because accreditation is a recent phenomenon and not well-researched in the context of technical and engineering education in Pakistan. This study explores the relationship between Accreditation and Quality Enhancement of technical and engineering education in Pakistan. It will be helpful for the policymakers in identifying the problems and suggesting changes in Accreditation process. The quantitative data was collected through survey and qualitative data was collected through in-depth interviews. In first phase response of ninety heads of program was received and then ten selected heads of programs were interviewed. The findings of all phases were integrated during the interpretation phase. It was concluded that in Pakistan there is a positive correlation between accreditation process and quality enhancement.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) has been advocated since the beginning of the 1990s and is today, at least within the western hemisphere, an established doctrine in many professional fields. This holds true also for addiction treatment. Over time EBP has come to signify a more general orientation to a scientifically secured knowledgebase and by this partly obscuring the fact there exists different and to some extent contradictory opinions on how EBP should be implemented. The paper aims at an analysis of the newly published Swedish national guidelines for addiction treatment. The analysis addresses several dimensions of the guidelines: a) the quality of the guidelines in terms of their scientific underpinning. b) The usefulness of the guidelines, i.e. to what extent it is possible to use the guidelines in actual practice. c). How the guidelines were produced (time-aspects, involvement of experts and the role of the National Board of Health and welfare as the responsible organisation). d) To what extent the guidelines have been developed with reference to and a discussion of some of the major scientific controversies related to the EBP issue.


Considerable expansion of technical education has taken place in India. However, the quality of technical education graduates of the country is a matter of concern. To enhance the quality and standard in technical education, NBA accreditation, a process of benchmarking of academic quality of an engineering education program or diploma engineering education program by an accreditation agency, has been introduced. India is a signatory nation of Washington Accord through National Board of Accreditation. Now, accreditation has become compulsory for quality assurance, recognition of graduates globally, recognition by the stakeholders, for branding and for expansion of the program. However, very few programs have been accredited so far in India. Outcome Based Education is the central feature of accreditation which focuses on outcomes. It is a student centered approach which measures student performance or outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills, and attributes. The institutions intending to apply for accreditation are facing difficulty in preparing Self Assessment Report (SAR), especially CO- PO attainment. The purpose of this paper is to share our experiences of NBA accreditation process, especially assessment of CO and PO attainment. CO attainment is solely measured by direct measurement methods (internal and external assessments). Program Outcome attainment is calculated by both direct attainment method and indirect attainment method (various surveys). Various boards and committees formed for the preparation for accreditation are also outlined in this paper. The accreditation of two programs of our institute by NBA is an important indication of the appropriateness of the methods applied to achieve this goal. Since NBA is a member of the Washington Accord, this study may help not only local readers but also international readers having similar accreditation systems.
