Mapping Research Methods

In most peer-reviewed settings a claim to contribution is central to the evaluation of your research. It is therefore good practice to outline the philosophical orientation of your research and this requires that you address the particular relationship between ontology, epistemology, methodology, data gathering techniques and data analysis approaches. This chapter sets out definitions of these five key concepts, shows how they inter-relate and reviews common configurations in management and organizational research. Further, the chapter introduces the Method Map as a means of presenting a succinct, yet comprehensive account of the paradigm within which your research is conducted. In so doing, the chapter offers a clear, structured and explicit means of dealing with the philosophy of knowledge.

Collecting qualitative data in organizations is a complex and messy process which produces subjective, performed, and partial data. In this chapter, the authors argue that analyzing “ruptures” in organizational interview data—paying attention to absences, exits, unspoken feelings, and temporal shifts--can enrich the researcher's understanding by making visible multiple aspects of the data which might otherwise have been overlooked. Examining ruptures draws attention to jarring disjunctures and previously unseen angles often missed through traditional data analysis. Drawing from interview data with brothel owners and sex workers in Nevada's legal brothels, the authors present two main contributions to qualitative organizational research: (1) the benefits of analyzing ruptures in organizational interview performances and transcripts and (2) a challenge to organizational researchers to take seriously their emotions during the interview performance.

In this article, we examine how scholars innovate research methods. Based on a review of published qualitative strategy and management research, we identify highly innovative academic papers, that is, papers that demonstrate substantial novelty in every part of the research process. We work through these papers in detail to demonstrate their novelty, highlighting concrete ways in which scholars have innovated three interconnected parts of the research process: data generation, data analysis, and presentation of findings. Based on our analysis, we develop a two-layered “iceberg” model of method innovation, which shows that important principles guide the innovative use of organizational research tools. These principles are engaging in holistic innovation, being excruciatingly clear in the presentation of methods, developing theory and method together, and being reflexive in innovating methods. Our model demystifies the largely implicit process of innovating research methods. We hope it serves to orient and encourage a more creative use of methods in future studies.

Proteomics has the capability to generate overwhelming quantities of data in relatively short timescales, and it is not uncommon to see experimenters investing substantially more time in data analysis than in data gathering. Although several sophisticated tools for data reduction and analysis are available, they lack the flexibility to cope with increasingly innovative experimental strategies and new database resources that encode both qualitative and quantitative data. I will outline a specification of a flexible proteomics tool that could address many current bottlenecks and deficiencies.

Learning is an interaction process between learners and educators. At the covid '19 pandemic study activity is experiencing a lot of problems, students are struggling to understand the materials the teachers explain through an online system. Addressing the problem, the madrass sabielil muttaqien an open-ended learning approach to a learning activity that is carried out once a week with the system offline by keeping the health protocols recommended by the government. The research is intended to describe the steps of open-ended learning and action action at the madrasah ibtidaiyah sabileil muttaqien lesson year 2020-2021.The study a descriptive qualitative approach and the type of research is case study. Research subjects select using adhesive techniques. As for the data-gathering techniques in this essay using non-participant observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Whereas data analysis the interactive data analysis model presented by miles and Huberman and the validity of the data using source and technical triangulation. The study concludes: 1) Preparation of an open-ended approach learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sabilil Muttaqin is a teacher constructing a learning device that is Silabus and described in the form of an invasive learning plan (RPP) by listing the open-ended question in the application of the learning plan (RPP). 2) The performance of open-ended learning approach works effectively and passionate learners follow the learning process. Learning activities consist of introductory activities, core activities, final or concluding activities and evaluation activities. For the core activity of the delivery of materials with the six stages of activity carried out by the teacher. ABSTRAK Pembelajaran merupakan proses interaksi antara peserta didik dengan pendidik. Dimasa pandemi Covid’19 kegiatan pembelajaran banyak mengalami permasalahan, peserta didik susah memahami materi yang dijelaskan oleh guru dengan system online. Menanggulangi permasalahan tersebut Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sabielil Muttaqien menggunakan Pendekatan Open-Ended Learning pada kegiatan pembelajaran yang dilaksanakan satu minggu sekali dengan system offline (tatap muka) dengan tetap menjaga protokol kesehatan yang dianjurkan oleh pemerintah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kegiatan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Open-Ended Learning berjalan dengan efektif dan peserta didik semangat mengikuti proses pembelajaran. Untuk kegiatan inti berisi tentang penyampaian materi dengan enam tahap pendekatan Open-Ended Learning. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dan jenis penelitian adalah studi kasus. Penentuan subjek penelitian menggunakan teknik purposive. Adapun tehnik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan observasi Non-Partisipan, wawancara semi terstruktur, dan dokumentasi. Sedangkan analisis data menggunakan model analisis data interaktif yang dikemukakan oleh Miles dan Huberman dan keabsahan datanya menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi teknik. Penelitian ini memperoleh kesimpulan: 1) Persiapan Pendekatan Open-Ended Learning Pada Pembelajaran Tematik di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sabilil Muttaqin adalah guru menyusun sebuah perangkat pembelajaran yang berupa Silabus dan Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP). Dan membuat pertanyaan Open-Ended dalam isian Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP). 2) Pelaksanaan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Open-Ended Learning berjalan dengan efektif dan peserta didik semangat mengikuti proses pembelajaran. Kegiatan pembelajaran terdiri dari kegiatan pendahuluan, kegiatan inti, kegiatan akhir atau penutup dan kegiatan evaluasi. Untuk kegiatan inti berisi tentang penyampaian materi dengan enam tahap kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh guru. Kata Kunci: pembelajaran, pandemi covid-19, pendekatan open-ended learning

As an educational institution that implements the 2013 curriculum, the school will directly apply the appropriate assessment, namely the Authentic assessment. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of Authentic Assessment on thematic subjects at the fifth grade of SDN 003 Sungai Salak, Tempuling District, this study used descriptive quantitative research methods.  The result of the data analysis concluded that the implementation of authentic assessment in thematic learning in Class V SDN 003 Sungai Salak, Tempuling District was categorically as good.

Examined here are claims made in a recent edited volume to provide Marxism with a template for research methods. Downplayed or missing, however, are crucial issues necessary to the realization of this project, including who or what is to be considered Marxist, earlier methodological contributions and prefiguring debate, together with the political ends to which such research is geared. These problems in turn can be traced to misunderstandings of or difficulties with Marxist theory and its key concepts, among them class, the industrial reserve, and unfree labour. In light of the shortcomings, the conclusion is that a Marxist guide to fieldwork methods has yet to be written.

This paper provides a list of good practice in the conduct and reporting of survey research. Its purpose is to assist the trainee researcher to produce survey work to a high standard level. The research paper provides a scope of the methodology used showing the processes of data gathering tools & field procedures for each population of interest(citizens, residents, and tourists), data analysis, and some sample size issues. The research is not meant to provide a manual of how to conduct a survey, but rather to identify common difficulties and errors to be avoided by researchers if their work is to be efficient and sound.The paper has shown the approaches for Assessing Customer Satisfaction and the main outcome of this experience in judging whether the survey questions flow: logic, order, relevance, easily understood, adequate to be measured.Sampling plan used in this research suggested that the sample is a national probability sample drawn proportionate to the population by age and gender, and separately by the municipality. These groups are used as sampling parameters that have provided the number of sub-groups to be investigated. In this survey, there were two sources of under-coverage and over-coverage in the sample design. First, some residents live in labor gatherings. Second, there was the challenge of having to over-sample citizens in individual municipalities. Each of these issues examined and dealt with accordingly.
