Warming across ice-covered regions will result in changes to both the physical and climatic environment, revealing new ice-free habitat and new climatically suitable habitats for non-native species establishment. Recent studies have independently quantified each of these aspects in Antarctica, where ice-free areas form crucial habitat for the majority of terrestrial biodiversity. Here we synthesise projections of Antarctic ice-free area expansion, recent spatial predictions of non-native species risk, and the frequency of human activities to quantify how these facets of anthropogenic change may interact now and in the future. Under a high-emissions future climate scenario, over a quarter of ice-free area and over 80 % of the ~14 thousand km2 of newly uncovered ice-free area could be vulnerable to invasion by one or more of the modelled non-native species by the end of the century. Ice-free areas identified as vulnerable to non-native species establishment were significantly closer to human activity than unsuitable areas were. Furthermore, almost half of the new vulnerable ice-free area is within 20 km of a site of current human activity. The Antarctic Peninsula, where human activity is heavily concentrated, will be at particular risk. The implications of this for conservation values of Antarctica and the management efforts required to mitigate against it are in need of urgent consideration.

Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht Potenziale und Risiken von Big Data für das Leitmedium Fernsehen. Er nimmt dabei eine betont kritisch-normative Perspektive aus Sicht der Medienökonomie ein und analysiert diese anhand des Beispiels Konvergenzfernsehen. Eine der vielen Dimensionen von Big Data ist nämlich die Analyse des Nutzungsverhaltens einer Vielzahl von Konsumenten. Big Data-Dienste verwenden die Analyseergebnisse nicht nur dazu, individuelle Filmempfehlungen zu geben, sondern entscheiden vielmehr darüber, welche Inhalte überhaupt in das Portfolio eines Anbieters aufgenommen bzw. produziert werden. Auch wenn diese Dienste zu einer Optimierung von TV-Vermarktung führen, ist bis heute umstritten, inwiefern Big Data auch Mehrwert für Nutzer generiert. Auf der Sollseite stehen Überwachung, die Frageder Individualisierung und Rationalisierung des Konsums und generell die Kommodifizierung des Mediums.

Introduction:Effective synthesis of а mobile communication network includes joint optimisation of two processes: placement of base stations and frequency assignment. In real environments, the well-known cellular concept fails due to some reasons, such as not homogeneous traffic and non-isotropic wave propagation in the service area.Purpose:Looking for the universal method of finding a network structure close to the optimal.Results:The proposed approach is based on the idea of adaptive vector quantization of the network service area. As a result, it is reduced to a 2D discrete map split into zones with approximately equal number of service requests. In each zone, the algorithm finds such coordinates of its base station that provide the shortest average distance to all subscribers. This method takes into account the shortage of the a priory information about the current traffic, ensures maximum coverage of the service area, and what is not less important, significantly simplifies the process of frequency assignment.
