In response to the global awareness about the Coronavirus, mainly COVID-19, developing an educational-video tool regarding the utilization of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) as a preventative method of Coronaviruses. It is an ideal resource for nursing students, who are a cornerstone of the continuity of care and partnerships with high-risk individuals, families, and communities. This study examines the impact of the CAM video session on the level of attitude among Saudi undergraduate female nursing students in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A pre-post tests quasi-experimental study was conducted among 174 students to examine their attitude changes before and after they exposed the CAM educational video. The results suggesting that the CAM video session significantly improves students’ attitudes (M(differences) = 55.2068, SD = 5.9964, [t(174) = 121.444, p < .001]); Further, the number of utilizing the CAM therapy mainly the herbal methods was increased after the exposure to CAM video (pre-test n= 76, 43.7% vs. post-test n= 130, 74.7%). In conclusion enhancing the students' attitudes toward utilizing CAM therapy as preventive measures is a core aspect of public health. Further, implementing such attractive, simple, and evidence-based tools increases the utilization of accessible and available CAM resources such as herbal remedies. Accordingly, there is a need to examine the CAM video tool at a larger scale and not merely focus on the healthcare professionals but should include population-based scope.

Improving nursing students’ attitudes towards patient safety is a current and relevant topic. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention based on critical incident and root cause analysis (RCA) techniques regarding attitudes towards patient safety in nursing students. A quasi-experimental before and after study was developed between January 2018 and December 2019 in a sample of 100 nursing students at Universitat Jaume I (Spain). The intervention was developed in two phases. Phase I was at university, where students applied the RCA technique in a real case. Phase II took place during clinical practice. Students used critical incidents to identify a risk situation for the patients and applied RCA to detect its root causes. The measurement of attitudes was performed with the Attitudes to Patient Safety Questionnaire (APSQ-III). The global score of the questionnaire in the baseline measurement was 3.911 (±0.335), in the intermediate measurement it was 4.031 (±0.337) and in the final measurement it was 4.052 (±0.335), with significant differences (p = 0.03). However, intra-group differences were observed in the final measurement (p = 0.021). The teamwork dimension had the highest mean score on all three measures and the notification dimension had the lowest mean scores. An educational intervention combining critical incident and RCA techniques can improves nursing students’ attitudes toward patient safety.

This study aimed to evaluate the results of the application of a virtual learning object for the simulated evaluation of acute pain in the learning of undergraduate nursing students and to verify the opinions of the students regarding the quality of the technology. This was a quasi-experimental, non-randomized, before and after study performed with 14 students in the seventh phase of the undergraduate nursing course of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The pre (8.84) and post-test (9.31) means revealed significant differences in learning after the intervention (p=0.03). In the qualitative evaluation the flexibility of access, access independent of time/place, freedom to decide the best learning route and the similarity with reality were highlighted. It constitutes a promising educational tool, an interactive experience, similar to reality, dynamic and constructive learning. The application of the technology has brought positive results for learning about pain evaluation, contributing to fill the gap in the teaching of the thematic.

Background & Aim: The aging of the population poses new challenges, among others, a greater concern with the teaching of geriatrics and gerontology, especially to future health professionals. The simulation game "Aging Nursing Game" ® was used with the objective of evaluating the impact of an aging simulation game on nursing students' attitudes towards the elderly. Methods & Materials: A pre-test and post-test type quasi-experimental study was performed, without control group. The research was developed between February and July 2018. The subjects of this study were second-year undergraduate nursing students. A game was used as an intervention. To measure the effectiveness of the game, a questionnaire was applied before and after the intervention. The data collection instrument consisted of a questionnaire composed of two parts, the first part for sociodemographic characterization, and another consisting of the Portuguese version of the Kogan Scale (KAOP). Results: The sample consisted of 45 undergraduate nursing students from the 2nd year corresponding to 75% of the population. The attitude towards the elderly person improved significantly before and after the intervention. Of the 34 items on the Kogan Scale (KAOP), 21 improved significantly. Conclusion: The simulation game has proven to be effective in teaching students changing attitudes towards the elderly (p <0.05).

Background: Prelicensure nursing students possess minimal knowledge and skill to implement sepsis protocols effectively. This article evaluates an educational project to assess the impact of a repeat septic shock simulation on pre-licensure nursing students' knowledge and skill competency. Methods: A quasi-experimental, repeated measures, pre-post design strategy was used to evaluate a repeat septic shock simulation. A convenience sample of one-hundred-forty-three (N = 143) senior baccalaureate nursing students enrolled in the study. The project consisted of a septic shock didactic session, septic shock simulation with a high-fidelity mannequin, debrief, repeat simulation followed by a second debrief as a component of a complex health nursing course. Ninety-seven (n = 97) participants were randomly assigned to groups of up to five students to participate in a repeat septic shock simulation. Forty-six (n = 46) participants were randomly assigned to up to five students and served as a control group. The control group participated in all study elements except the repeat simulation.Results: The percent change in nursing students’ knowledge scores from Pre-simulation to Post-simulation was statistically significant (p < .001). The initial and repeat simulation realized modest gains in competency scores between the initial and repeated simulation.Conclusions: Providing concurrent experiences using a screening tool in real-time while simultaneously providing an opportunity to practice and refine clinical judgment through a repeat simulation proved effective.

Abstract Background The nursing process is the core and the standard of practice in nursing profession. Nowadays, the use of information technology in the field of nursing processes, education and practice has been emphasized. Since nurse’s attitudes towards clinical information systems are considered as an indicator of the success rate of information systems, and nurse’s attitudes about the nursing process can affect their execution of the process. So the purpose of this study was to evaluate nursing students’ attitudes towards the nursing process software. Methods In this quasi-experimental study, 160 undergraduate nursing students (terms 4–8) in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences were selected by convenience sampling. To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing process software in this study, Mazlom and Rajabpoor (IJME 14(4):312–322, 2014) a questionnaire consisting of 21 components based on a five-point Likert scale was completed by students after using the software. Data were then analyzed by SPSS 19 software. Results The mean score of students’ attitude toward nursing process software was high (80.70 ± 5.58). The nursing students’ highest scoring attitudes were respectively related to “Effectiveness of software in prioritizing patient care and problems”, “Completeness of patient’s electronic information compared to handwritten mode” and “Software’s effectiveness in saving your time”. The lowest scoring attitudes towards the software was respectively related to the “feeling of fairness in labor division”, “the effectiveness of the software in determining your workload” and “the feeling of satisfaction in labor division”. There was a statistically significant relationship between gender and age, and student’s attitude toward nursing process software. Conclusions According to the results and analysis of nursing student’s attitudes toward nursing process software, the use of such software would be welcomed by students. It seems that changing policies in the educational and clinical substructure of nursing in order to develop, adapt and use the nursing process software is an important responsibility for nursing authorities to consider. Providing educational and clinical technology equipment, periodic evaluation of software by stakeholders and promoting the use of this software, can be fundamental steps in operationalizing the findings of this research.

Objective: To determine the impact of a course aimed at the care of persons with drug dependence on the beliefs and intentions of drug use among bachelor nursing students. Materials and methods: A quasi-experimental study conducted with a non-equivalent comparison group composed of 210 Mexican students of both sexes. Two Likert-type instruments were used to measure the beliefs and intentions of drug use, before and after a semester-long course. Results: At the end of the study, a significant interaction was found (F = 3.56, p = 0.050, η2p = 0.025), which suggests a greater decrease in beliefs in favor of drug use among students who took the course on drug addiction. Regarding drug use intentions, a general decrease was observed in the entire sample (F = 10.13, p = 0.002, η2p = 0.059). Conclusions: Courses on the care of drug addiction can have beneficial effects on nursing students by modifying beliefs and intentions to carry out unhealthy behaviors such as the use of substances. These results demand to verify if the effects remain beyond the completion of university education.

There was a statistically significant relationship between gender and age and students' attitude toward nursing process software.Conclusions: Nursing students had a positive attitude about nursing process software. Therefore, in order to make the most use of the nursing process it is recommended to use this software in educational, research and clinical fields, which require a substructure of the nursing process software in universities and clinics.
