Data of foreign literature concerning sutureless formation of the colorectal anastomosiswith the help of cyonocrylate adhesives are presented in the article. These are quick acting glues, available on the Ukrainian market, and may be used by Ukrainiansurgeons in implementation of their ideas as to the sutureless connection of organs in theexperimental and clinical investigations.12 different types of cyanocrylate adhesives as to their resistance to the rupture of theconnected by them large intestine segments, were studied. Questions of the technicalformation of the sutureless anastomoses were considered. When substantially newtechnical devices for gluing together the organs are absent, progress is hardly possible. Objective – to acquaint the domestic surgeons and oncologists with modern achievementsof foreign scientists in the field of sutureless colorectal anastomosis formation by meansof cyanocrylate adhesives.Conclusions. For some time past foreign surgeons the problems of colorectal anastomosesintensively develop the problems of colorectal. This is due to the fact that indices ofcolorectal anastomosis insufficiency remain on high levels. Unfortunately, the hopesthat the introduction of modern advanced stapler anastomotic techniques can radicallyreduce the frequency of this complication were not justified.

Abstract. Across studies, memory for emotional events has shown a positivity bias, a negativity bias, and/or an arousal bias, and different types of memory biases have been reported in patients diagnosed with anxiety and mood disorders. Here, we investigated hedonic bias in memory for emotionally evocative scenes in a large sample (n = 625) of healthy young adults, in order to provide normative data on effects of pleasure, arousal, and content on immediate free recall that could facilitate future clinical investigations. Participants first viewed and rated a set of 60 pictures, followed by an unexpected memory test. Across participants, memory data was obtained for 360 different pictures, which served as the unit of analysis. There was neither a systematic positivity nor negativity bias in free recall of emotionally arousing scenes. Rather, memory was enhanced for scenes rated as highly arousing, whether pleasant or unpleasant, with those depicting romantic/sexual love and death/violence remembered equally well, and significantly better than other hedonic contents. Gender differences were not strong. Taken together, these data provide a basic science foundation for assessing hedonic bias in clinical populations.

The results of biochemical and clinical investigations of a number of azoospermia cases are presented. It was found that serious testicular complaint is usually accompanied by a reduction in the volume and a disturbance in the concentration of the constituents of the accessory gland secretion.Statistical analysis of the fructose concentration indicated that the minimum fructose average was that of the Klinefelter.

The authors present their experience, methodology and advantages of the method of «hidden colostomy» in treatment of anastomotic leakage after low anterior resection of rectum. The operations using the method of «hidden colostomy» were performed on 67 patients. All the patients underwent the low anterior resection of rectum operation concerning cancer with anastomosis formation at the distance of 3-8 cm from anus. The leakage of rectal anastomosis was revealed in 6 (8,9%) patients. A delayed double-barrel transverse stoma using preventive turnpike was formed in surgical dressing room without typical relaparotomy according to described method. Continuity of large intestine was restored in all patients during 2 months after operation. The method of «hidden colostomy» allowed doctors to avoid formation of vain protective intestinal stoma. This method helped to treat patients in a very simple and effective way in case of leakage of colorectal anastomosis.

AbstractThere is little information on the phylogenetic position and life cycle of family Kathlaniidae. Falcaustra araxiana is a member of this family which infects the large intestine of the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis). In the present study, morphological data and molecular analyses based on the 18S rDNA were performed on different types of F. araxiana originating from the large intestine and gastric nodules in the turtle. Morphological data revealed both larvae and adult stages in the gastric nodules. In addition, all nematodes recovered in the large intestine were adult worms. GenBank accession numbers KM200715 and KM200716 were provided for adult F. araxiana located in the intestine and stomach, respectively, of E. orbicularis. The results of sequencing proved that these two types are completely similar. Accordingly, it can be hypothesized that nodule formation is a part of the life cycle of the parasite or a survival strategy. Furthermore, F. araxiana develops to the adult stage in the gastric mucosa prior to migrating to the large intestine. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that F. araxiana unexpectedly branched away from other members of the superfamily Seuratoidea (Truttaedacnitis truttae, Cucullanus robustus and C. baylisi) and showed a closer relationship with Paraquimperia africana, a member of the Ascaridoidea. It seems that phylogenetic reconstruction for the present parasite needs more detailed morphology, life cycle and molecular studies.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a condition with devastating consequences for the patient, family, and society. Although effective treatments for SCI remain limited, there have been many advances in recent years, which have promise for the future from a clinical translational perspective. This issue of Neurosurgical Focus explores some of the current basic science, preclinical, and clinical research directed towards this goal. Clinical investigations are also discussed with regard to the treatment and management of different types of SCI and of SCI in different populations. The issue concludes with a review of the current, ongoing, and planned clinical trials, providing a glimpse of the promising new therapies being developed for the treatment of SCI.

Gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) in the large intestine was characterized in 12 calves (10 to 84 days old) obtained at necropsy (7, group A) or healthy animals (5, group B). Patches of mucosal lymphoid follicles were in all calves at ileocecal entrances (ICE), 23–42 cm distal to the ICE in the proximal loop of the ascending colon (proximal colon [PC] patch), and in the terminal rectum. PC patches varied from 8 to 30 cm in length. Solitary lymphoid follicles were found in the cecum of three calves, between the ileocecal entrances and the PC patch in four calves, adjacent to the PC patch in all calves, and in the ampulla recti. GALT occupied 7.8% of the large intestinal wall in animals of group A: 0.6% at the ileocecal entrance, 4.8% in the proximal colon, and 2.4% in the rectum. There were two different types of mucosal lymphoid follicles in group B: propria nodules with lymphoid follicles predominantly in the lamina propria, and lymphoglandular complexes with lymphoid follicles in the submucosa. In three 3-, 6-, and 7-day-old, germfree calves, distinct follicle-associated epithelium covered propria nodules and covering folds in depths of the lymphoglandular complexes; it was characterized by numerous intraepithelial cells and lack of goblet cells.

Introduction. The intense work of Ukrainian organizations, as a result their complex activities, increased competition, socio-economic crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic, commands organizations' close attention to the mental health of their staff. This requires, in particular, the study of foreign approaches to solving this problem, one of which is the concept of «healthy organizations».Aim. Based on the analysis of relevant foreign literature, to determine the essence of «healthy organizations»and their main ways and methods of promoting staff's mental health.Results. Having analyzed the relevant foreign literature, the author determines the aims of «healthy organizations»and their main activities to promote staff's mental health (choosing staff's positive mental health as an organization’s priority and value; formation of the culture of «openness»to discuss mental health problems in the organization; respect for all groups of workers, including those with mental problems, etc.). The methods of «healthy organizations»to promote staff's mental health include, in part, different types of interventions at different organizational management levels (individual, group, organizational, inter-organizational). The author emphasizes the importance of multilevel interventions.Conclusions.The introduction of the concept of «healthy organizations»in Ukrainian organizations, given the peculiarities of their functioning in the socio-economic and organizational conditions, can help maintain and improve staff's mental health.
