The authors have investigated the dynamics of the parameters for the fibrinolytic activity of the blood serum in operative treatment of patients with benign prostate hyperplasia. Surgical interference was performed to the extent of transurethral resection of the prostate gland. The peculiarities of the state of fibrinolysis during the intraoperative and postoperative periods have been ascertained. The state of fibrinolytic activity of the blood serum in patients with benign prostate hyperplasia and the control group, comprising men of identical age, has been analyzed.

We investigated the dynamics of the parameters of the state of blood serum protein peroxidation in surgical treatment of 60 patients with benign prostate hyperplasia. Surgical intervention was performed to the extent of transurethral prostate resection. Statistically, reliable changes of protein peroxidation were established prior to surgical intervention incomparison with the control group and when comparing the preoperative indices with the results of the examination during the intra- and postoperative periods. A technique of determining the state of blood serum protein peroxidation has been ascertained and the expediency of monitoring these parameters has been substantiated.

Abstract Introduction: Trichomonas vaginalis infection is one of the most widespread sexually transmitted infections in the world. There are approximately 276 million cases worldwide. Most men remain undiagnosed and untreated because they are asymptomatic. The chronic inflammation induced by persistent infection may increase the risk of developing genitourinary cancers. In this study, we aimed to investigate the association between trichomoniasis and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer (PCa), and bladder cancer (BC) in Taiwan.Material and method: We designed a case-control study by using the database of the National Health Insurance program in Taiwan. We used the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision classifications to classify all the medical conditions in the case and control groups. All odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression to adjust for all comorbidities and variables.Result: From 2000 to 2015, we enrolled a total of 62,544 individuals as the case group and 187,632 as the control group. Trichomoniasis exposure had a significant association with BPH and PCa (adjusted OR: BPH = 2.685, 95% CI = 1.233–4.286, P = 0.013; PCa = 5.801, 95% CI = 1.296–26.035, P = 0.016). The relative risk was much higher if patients had both trichomoniasis and depression (adjusted OR = 7.682, 95% CI = 5.730–9.451, P < 0.001).Conclusion: Men with trichomoniasis had a significantly higher risk of developing BPH and PCa than those without. Healthcare professionals should not only pay more attention to disease treatment, but also to public health education.

The objective is to establish the feasibility of using dynamic instrumented palpation, a novel technique of low-frequency mechanical testing, applied here to diagnose soft tissue condition. The technique is applied, in vitro, to samples of excised prostate gland affected by benign prostate hyperplasia and/or prostate cancer. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the histological structure of the tissue and the dynamic mechanical properties in an attempt to separate patient-specific aspects from histopathological condition (i.e. prostate cancer or benign prostate hyperplasia). The technique is of clinical interest because it is potentially deployable in vivo. Prostate samples were obtained from a total of 36 patients who had undergone transurethral resection of the prostate to relieve prostatic obstruction and 4 patients who had undergone radical cystoprostatectomy for bladder cancer. Specimens (chips) recovered from transurethral resection of the prostate were of nominal size 5 mm × 8 mm and thicknesses between 2 and 4 mm, whereas those from the cystoprostatectomy were in the form of transverse slices of thickness approximately 6 mm. Specimens were mechanically tested by a controlled strain cyclic compression technique, and the resulting dynamic mechanical properties expressed as the amplitude ratio and phase difference between the cyclic stress and cyclic strain. After mechanical testing, the percentage areas of glandular and smooth muscle were measured at each probe point. Good contrast between the dynamic modulus of chips from benign prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer patients was demonstrated, and absolute values similar to those published by other authors are reported. For the slices, modulus values were considerably higher than for chips, and good in-patient mechanical contrast was revealed for predominantly nodular and predominantly stromal areas. Extending this classification between patients required pattern recognition techniques. Overall, the study has demonstrated that dynamic mechanical properties can potentially be used for diagnosis of prostate condition using in vivo measurements.

Abstract. Background: Diseases primarily affects prostate gland are inflammation, hyperplasia, and malignant tumour. Gleason score (GS) is an essential facet and together with PSA are substantial in diagnosing, managing, and determining the prognosis of CaP. Purpose: The aims of this study is to investigate the prevalence of prostatic lesions and its PSA level among patients in anatomical pathology installation in RSUD Dr. Soetomo from year 2014 to 2016. Method: This research is a retrospective study of prostatic lesions that were conducted from year 2014 to 2016 (3 years) with emphasis on GS and PSA levels. Result: The distribution of histopathological lesion found are benign lesion, benign prostate hyperplasia, adenocarcinoma, prostatitis, benign prostate hyperplasia with prostatitis, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, sarcoma, transitional cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. The most common findings in this cohort is benign lesion (34.6%) with age group of 61-70 years old (51.94%) and adenocarcinoma with high GS of 9 (60%). Meanwhile, patients with GS 8 (high risk patient) contributed for 84.8%. Most of the cases (69.2%) have elevated PSA level of 20 ng/ml. Conclusion: The prevalence of prostatic lesions were able to be determined in different age groups. High GS indicates a more aggressive type of adenocarcinoma suffered, high risk for CaP.  The results show that the possibility to detect malignancy with rising PSA level are higher, although PSA is not considered as a specific marker. Keywords: prostate, histopathology, benign lesion, PSA.
