This study aim to design English speaking materials needed for students of class XI SMA N 1 Kerajaan. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. The subject of this study were students of class XI consisting of 20 students. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaire and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ needs. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing the questionnaire to 20 respondents to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire result of the needs analysis showed that the students needed materials for speaking which were attractive and interesting and based on their social life context. Thus, the learning materials were developed into 6 of speaking material. By two experts; English lecturer and English teacher. The average scores are 4,7 or 95% from English Lecturer and 4,5 or 90% from English Teacher. It means the developing materials categorized as relevant, thus, it can be concluded that contextual teaching and learning speaking materials had been appropriated for grade XI students of Senior High School.Key words: Research and Development (R & D), Speaking materials, Contextual Teaching and  Learning

This research aim to design English speaking materials needed for students of electrical engineering study program at SMK Sinar Husni Medan. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product.The subject of this study were students of class X-l2 of electrical engineering study program consisting of 38 students. The instrumentations for collecting the data were questionnaire and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ needs. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing the questionnaire to 38 respondents to get the students’needs. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which contain English for electrical engineering study program. Thus, The materials were then developed through Contextual Teaching and Learning approach which implementation by REACT (relating, experiencing, applying, cooperating, and transferring) and developed with their study program and work life situation. The learning materials were developed into 6 units of speaking material. by two experts; English lecturer and English teacher. The average scores are 4,5 or 90% from English Lecturer and 4,4 or 87,6% from English teacher.It means the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for grade X students of electrical engineering study program. Key words: Research and Development (R & D), Speaking materials,Contextual Teaching and Learning, Electrical Engineering Program

This study deals with the development of English Speaking Materials for Students of Automotive Engineering Study Program at SMK Sinar Husni. The objective of this study is: to develop appropriate English speaking materials for students of automotive engineering program at SMK Sinar Husni through Task-Based Learning (TBL). The research procedures of this study were Research and Development (R & D) though six stages; Gathering information and data, Analyzing data, Designing the first draft of material, Validating by experts, Rivising and Designing the final product. The subject of this research was class X-1 students of Automotive Engineering study program consisting of 45 students. The instruments for collecting data used in this research were documentary sheet, questionnaire and interview. The result of questionnaire and interview show that students need English speaking materials which appropriate to their major that is Automotive Engineering. Thus, the result of this study was a supplementary material of English speaking through task-based learning which consist of title, objective, let’s start, let’s practice, language reference.The English speaking materials were developed into 3 units of speaking materials. They were then validated by two experts. The average scores are 4,4 from English Lecturer and 4,4 from English Teacher. It means that the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for grade X Students of Automotive Engineering study Program.

This study aims to develop appropriate English speaking materials for grade X students of  Beauty Study Program at SMK Negeri 1 Beringin. This study was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating new materials by experts, revising, and final product. The subject of this research was grade X students of Beauty study program consisting of 19 students. The instrumentations for collecting data were questionairre and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ needs. The data were gathered by administering interview to the teacher and distributing the questionairre to 19 respondents to get the students’ needs. The result of questionairre and interview prove that the students need English speaking materials which appropriate to their major that is Beauty study program. Thus, developing English speaking materials consist of three units, they are welcome to our beauty salon, complimenting and showing care, and congratulations on your achievement. The products have been validated by experts. The average scores are 4.3 from English Lecturer and 4.5 from English Teacher. It means that the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for Grade X Students of Beauty study program.

This research aims to develop weblog as media in teaching writing of senior high school students.It is a research and development (R&D) study that follows ASSURE model proposed by Heinrich and developed by Smaldino, Heinich, Molenda, & Russell (2005:49). The procedure of developing media consisted of analyzing learner, stating objective, selecting media, utilizing media, requiring learner participation, evaluating and revising.The product was examined by the media expert. After conducting the first test, the second test was conducted by English teacher and students. The subjects of this research were the eleventh grade students of PGN 1 High school. The subject consisted of 19 students of class XI. The researcher used an interview and questionnaires as the data collecting technique. The questionnaires were distributed for needs analysis and expert validation. English teacher and students’ responded toward the developed weblog. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the questionnaires and the qualitative analysis technique for the interview.The findings revealed that the developed weblog as online media in teaching writing is categorized “very good” by experts with the mean scores put on 3.82. The result score of tryout is 3.48 and categorized as very good. The English teacher’s response towards the weblog show the range of average mean score on 3.69 categorized “very good”. Therefore, the developed weblog is very appropriate to use in teaching and learning process of writing.

This research has aims to develop English speaking materials for grade X culinary study program at SMKN 10 Medan, first this research was conducted by Research and Development through has Six stages, they are: gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating by the experts, revising and the last was Final product. The subject in this research was students grade X boga 3 at SMKN 10 Medan where the students consisting of 36 students, the instrumentations for data collection  were giving a questionnaire and interview, questionnaire was administrate and it answer by the students to get the students need, and the interview was administrate to the English teacher, the result of the questionnaire and interview prove that the student need some appropriate speaking material in descriptive text that has relation with their program study, that is culinary. Thus, developing English speaking materials consist of three units: lets’ talk about chef Juna (describing People), how the smell, taste and texture of your favorite food? (Describing things) and the last units was talk about famous restaurant (Describing Place). The product has been validated by two experts, and the average score are 4, 75 are coming from English Lecture’s, the second average score 4, 89 are coming from English teacher. From the score above, it means that the product categorized as relevant for grade X students of culinary study program.Key words: R&D, English for Specific Purposes, English speaking materials, culinary study program.

This study was a case study which aimed to analyze the types of questions used by an English teacher, the purposes of questions asked by the teacher, and the strategy used to cope with non-responded questions. The subject of this study was an English teacher who taught seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Singaraja which is located in Singaraja, Buleleng regency, Bali, Indonesia. The data were collected through observation, interview, and video recording. The result of the analysis showed that from 241 questions, the teacher more frequently asked convergent, closed, and display questions rather than divergent, open, and referential questions. Procedural questions were also found. The teacher’s questions served several purposes such as to check students’ knowledge and understanding, to attract students’ activeness, to develop students’ interest and curiosity, and to stimulate students in stating information. It was also found that the teacher used seven strategies to cope with non-responded questions. This study suggested the teacher to balance the number of convergent, closed, and display with divergent, open, and referential questions to be used during teaching and learning process. In addition, the teacher should know more about the strategies for non-responded questions and the proper way to use those strategies to make the teaching and learning process runs smoothly.

<p>The main purposes of this study are (1) to describe the implementation of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) in teaching English, and (2) to investigate the teacher’s difficulties in implementing CTL in teaching English at the seventh grade students of SMPN-1 Palangka Raya. It was used qualitative method. The subject of this study was an English teacher of SMPN-1 Palangka Raya. It was used observation, interview and documentation to collect the data, and for data analysis it was used data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The findings show that (1) the implementation of CTL implemented by the teacher was through some components of CTL which were applied more frequently than others. The questioning, learning community, and modeling were frequently applied. (2) The problems faced by the teacher were the condition of the students who still made some noise, the large amount of students in the class, little attention from the students, and the shyness from the students to speak up.</p>

The objective of this study was to develop the speaking materials in Showing Care and Congratulation for the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 20 Medan. The study was educational Research and Development (R & D). The data were gathered by distributing questionnaires to 30 students of SMA Negeri 20 Medan and administering interviews to the teacher. The result of the study was a set of developed teaching speaking materials based on CTL entitled “Meet and Speak” Which consists of two chapters on the topic of (1) Don’t be Sad My Friend and (2) Good Job. This study aims to design Screencast O Matic as media of writing descriptive text for grade eighth students in Junior High School. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing the data, designing new writing media, validating to experts, revising writing media, and final product. The subject of this research was grade eighth students at SMP Negeri 27 Medan. The instruments used for collecting the data were interview and questionnaire. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 30 respondents to get the students’ needs in learning descriptive text. The writing media have been validated by two experts, English teacher and English lecturer. The average score from English teacher and English lecturer was 90,4% so it was categorized as Very Good. It means the developing Screencast O Matic as media of writing descriptive text is appropriate for grade eighth students in Junior High School. Keywords: Research and Development (R&D), Writing media, Descriptive text, Screencast O Matic
