The article analyzes the changes in requirements for oxide emissions resulted from fuel combustion in accordance with the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships MARPOL 73/78. The problem of improving the energy efficiency of large-capacity gas tankers is studied by using different types of marine fuel. An energy audit was carried out on board a gas carrier with deadweight of 54,354 tons and propulsion system power of 12,400 kW. The energy audit relied on data of six voyages of a gas-carrier from July 14, 2016 to January 19, 2017. The Energy Efficiency Operational Index defined as carbon dioxide emissions per ton-mile of cargo movement, was used as a tool for assessing the energy efficiency of the ship. The research included the methods of comparative analysis of fuel change during the voyages. The comparative analysis was applied to calculate changes of consuming fuels with different lower caloric value. There have been given general characteristics of heavy fuel RMG 380 and diesel fuel DMA. Values of all parameters for analysis of operational coefficient of power efficiency were taken from the engineer’s log, cargo record book and oil record book, as well as from energy efficiency operation indicator reports of the company after each voyage. Based on the results of the assessment, the conclusions were drawn and perspectives were developed concerning the use of marine fuels and modification of the ship power plant. It has been inferred that using liquefied natural gas as main fuel increases power and economic efficiency of a ship and meets new requirements of MARPOL 73/78 to 2020 on sulfur content in fuel. The conducted research and preliminary calculations make it possible to predict an increase in the economic efficiency of a large-tonnage fleet while maintaining a high environmental friendliness.

PT KAI (Persero) has never stopped transforming itself. His transformation was highly considered when PT KAI (Persero) was under the authority of Jonan Ignasius. Edi Sukmoro then continued the transformation. Some improvements in service quality at each train station require appreciation from various aspects. At present, security is improved, tickets are easier to obtain, and travel is more convenient because trains are provided by AC. However, given the costs involved, installation of air conditioners in all business and economy class cars does not apply central air conditioning but divides air conditioning as applied in the home or office. This research is to find out the most efficient air conditioning in consuming energy in trains, therefore, it is conducted. This study also investigates the most effective air conditioning in cooling. The results showed that the energy efficiency of split air coolers was lower than central air coolers. Regarding cooling capacity, central AC is produced by PT INKA which has a higher cooling capacity than split AC.

The article presents results of energy inspection of an educational building “Hydrotechnical building-2” of the Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University. The energy audit was carried out to estimate energy resources performance and define opportunities for its increase. According to the results of energy audit the analyses of state of energy consumption are provided. The class of energy efficiency is defined. The recommendations and prospective opportunities to save energy and increase power efficiency of “Gidrokorpus-2” are presented as a resume of this article.

This study presents the results of the analysis on the energy balance of a single-family residential home built in 1986. The authors assess the proposed construction improvements in terms of their ability to enhance the building's energy efficiency and comfort. The studies were carried out for the needs of the owners who saw the necessity of reducing the maintenance and heating costs of the house and of improving their living conditions. The on-site studies and analyses of the building concerning the calculations for the proposed variants of solutions have pointed to the necessity and relevance of a thermal modernization of the building. The analyses took into consideration the growing requirements of thermal insulation of walls, the EP factor and the growing use of energy from renewable sources. The proposed modernization steps and energy audit calculations helped to select the most efficient solution.

The International Convention for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), which was not ratified in Malaysia, created a heated public discourse in the media. This cross-linguistic comparative study investigates the representation of ICERD in Malaysian news reports of two online sources in Malaysia – the widely read English portal: The Star Online, and its Malay equivalent: Berita Harian. A corpus-assisted discourse analysis was conducted to examine how news on ‘ICERD’ were reported in both English and Malay online newspapers. Initial comparative analysis of both newspapers revealed that the search term co-occurs statistically more frequently with the verb ‘ratify’ and its equivalent: ‘meratifikasi’. Patterns indicate that ‘ICERD’ was mostly referring to the act of sanctioning the agreement –particularly to ‘not ratify’ or ‘tidak akan meratifikasi’, which is concurrent with the timeframe of events. Interestingly, different patterns can be found in Berita Harian (e.g. the expression of ‘thanks’ or gratitude of not ratifying ICERD) that are not as revealing in The Star Online reports. Some inconsistencies were also reported between the two newspapers, e.g. referring to different ministers’ speech about the initial plan to ratify ICERD alongside five (The Star Online) or six (Berita Harian) other treaties in the following year.

The problem under consideration is improvement of the energy efficiency of a control system of parallel-running pump units. Known methods used to solve this problem are considered. Their advantages and disadvantages are shown. Finally, the idea of a new approach, which is based on online optimization, is proposed.

Few small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have undertaken an energy audit to date and even fewer have taken action to implement energy-saving measures. Lack of time, knowledge, and finance, coupled with the low priority that SMEs give to energy management, are the most commonly cited barriers to effective energy management in SMEs. Four projects funded by Horizon 2020 (SPEEDIER, SMEmPower Efficiency, E2DRIVER, and Innoveas) have developed innovative capacity-building programmes designed to eliminate these barriers and encourage SMEs to undertake energy audits and implement the recommended energy efficiency measures. This paper presents an overview of the innovations being tested and suggests a series of policy recommendations that could help to drive uptake of energy audits in SMEs.
