AbstractPurpose An increasing number of workers in the US have chronic health conditions that limit their ability to work, and few worksite interventions have been tested to improve worker coping and problem solving at work. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a worksite-based health self-management program designed to improve workplace function among workers with chronic health conditions. Methods We conducted a randomized, controlled trial of a worksite self-management program (“Manage at Work”) (clinicaltrials.gov #NCT01978392) for workers with chronic health conditions (N = 119; 82% female, ages 20–69). Most workers were recruited from the health care or light manufacturing industry sectors. Workers attended a 5-session, facilitated psychoeducational program using concepts of health self-management, self-efficacy, ergonomics, and communication. Changes on outcomes of work engagement, work limitation, job satisfaction, work fatigue, work self-efficacy, days absent, and turnover intention at 6-month follow-up were compared to wait-list controls. Results The most prevalent chronic health conditions were musculoskeletal pain, headaches, vision problems, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory disorders, and mental health disorders. The self-management program showed greater improvement in work engagement and turnover intent at 6-month follow-up, but there was no evidence of a parallel reduction in perceived work limitation. Trends for improved outcomes of work self-efficacy, job satisfaction, and work fatigue in the intervention group did not reach statistical significance in a group x time interaction test. Conclusions Offering a worksite self-management program to workers with chronic health conditions may be a feasible and beneficial strategy to engage and retain skilled workers who are risking disability.Clinical trial registration: Clinicaltrials.gov #NCT01978392.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a teaching program for hospital discharge of patients submitted to radical prostatectomy based on the self-efficacy construct of the Cognitive Social Theory. Method: A controlled clinical trial carried out on a 2-month follow-up of 68 prostatectomized men randomized into intervention group (n = 34) and control (n = 34). The intervention group received routine guidance from the service plus the teaching program. The control group only received routine guidance from the service. The data collection instruments were: sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, self-efficacy scale, hospital depression and anxiety scale, household care knowledge questionnaire, and an item on satisfaction with a score of 1 to 5. Results: There was a significant difference between the intragroups for satisfaction (p<0.001) and knowledge (p<0.001) of the pre-test to the post-test. In the intervention group, there were significant changes between the times for anxiety (p=0.011) and knowledge (p<0.001). Conclusion: The teaching program with a combination of oral guidance, written instruction and telephone follow-up was effective in improving knowledge about home care and personal satisfaction. One reason why otherwise well-functioning total hip replacements have a finite service life is eventual aseptic loosening of the implants because of osteolysis induced by wear particles from the artificial bearing. Pain and osteolysis from wear debris can manifest even in the absence of aseptic loosening. Total hip replacements with ceramic-on-ceramic articulations have shown less wear both in vitro and in vivo. A randomized prospective clinical trial was conducted to compare the outcomes of ceramic-on-ceramic articulations to ceramic-on-polyethylene articulations. Two-year data are of interest because premature failures of ceramic femoral heads usually occur by this time interval. Of 500 patients enrolled in this trial, half received total hip replacements with alumina-on-alumina bearings, while the other half had ceramic-on-polyethylene bearings. At the two-year follow-up, 444 patients (217 study group and 227 control group) were available for review. The clinical and radiographic outcomes between the groups were comparable, and reflected the typical results of primary total hip replacements. No complications related to spontaneous failures of the ceramic bearings were observed at this early follow-up period. Further follow-up is needed to confirm these findings over the long-term, but the short-term safety of alumina ceramic bearings in hip replacements reported in other recent reports is further validated by our findings.

Background: The negative effects of cesarean section on breastfeeding are a major global concern. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of Oketani breast massage on the maternal need for support during breastfeeding, breastfeeding success, and breastfeeding self-efficacy. Setting: Three hospitals affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran, from April to July 2019. Study Design: The participants in this experimental study were 113 pregnant women who were candidates for cesarean section. The mothers were selected using convenience sampling and randomly assigned. In addition to routine care, the mothers in the intervention group received Oketani breast massages twice. However, the mothers in the control group received routine care. The data were collected using the Infant Breastfeeding Assessment Tool (IBFAT), LATCH Assessment Score, and the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES). The data were analyzed with SPSS 20 software via the independent samples t test, the Mann–Whitney U test, and the chi-square test. Results: The results of the study suggested that the breastfeeding success rate, which was evaluated with IBFAT in both the first two breastfeeding stages and the last pre-discharge breastfeeding, was significantly higher for the mothers in the intervention group (p < .001). In addition, the mother’s need for support, which was evaluated with LATCH in the first two breastfeeding stages (p = .044) and the last pre-discharge breastfeeding (p < .001) in the intervention group, was less. The total number of breastfeeding sessions from birth to discharge was higher in the intervention group (p = .002). Furthermore, the mothers in the intervention group breastfed their infants in a significantly shorter time interval (p = .002). Breastfeeding self-efficacy, according to the BSES, was significantly higher in the mothers of the intervention group (p < .001). Conclusion: Oketani massage can be used as a care intervention by nurses to improve breastfeeding in mothers who undergo cesarean sections.

Teachers have to support flunked English majors emotionally, academically and use creative methods to improve their academic performance. The present research examined the effect of self-efficacy and outcomes expectancy on improving the performance of flunking English majors at Shaqra’ University. The instruments required for the research were a follow-up interview, pre-posttests and a questionnaire of self-efficacy and outcomes expectancy. The sample size was thirty of flunking English major students. The research compared eight techniques to enhance self-efficacy and outcomes expectancy to regular method. To test the hypotheses, data were collected and statistically analyzed. The results showed that there was no significance difference between the control group and experimental related to regular method in the pre-tests, whereas there was a difference in the post-tests in favor of the experimental group attributed to the treatment. The findings of the questionnaire proved that students' perception of self-efficacy and outcome expectancy were crucial to enhance students' academic performance. The research suggested further investigations to examine the effect of self-efficacy and outcome expectancy on enhancing language oral and written skills.

Abstract Background: The most important factor in the survival and health of infants is breastfeeding. One of the complications of cesarean sections is their negative effect on the quality of breastfeeding. This study aimed to determine the effect of Oketani breast massage on the maternal need for support during breastfeeding, breastfeeding success, and breastfeeding selfefficacy. Methods: The research sample in this clinical trial study included pregnant women who referred to Mahdiyeh, Taleghani, and Imam Hossein hospitals as candidates for a cesarean section. The mothers were selected using convenience sampling and randomly assigned to the intervention group (n = 55) and the control group (n = 58). The data were collected using, the Infant Breastfeeding Assessment Tool (IBFAT), the Breastfeeding Charting System (LATCH), and the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES). To assess the breastfeeding success rate, the number of breastfeeding times, and the onset time of the first breastfeeding were recorded. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 20) via the independent samples t-test, the Mann–Whitney U test, and chi-square test. Results: The results of the study suggested that the breastfeeding success rate in both the first two breastfeeding stages and the last pre-discharge breastfeeding was significantly higher for the participants in the intervention group than the members of the control group (p <0.001). Besides, the mother's need for support in the first two breastfeeding stages (p = 0.044) and the last pre-discharge breastfeeding (p <0.001) in the intervention group was less than that of the mothers in the control group. The number of breastfeeding in the intervention group was higher than the control group (p = 0.002). Furthermore, the mothers in the intervention group breastfed their infants in a significantly less time interval (p = 0.002). The breastfeeding self-efficacy was significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (p <0.001). Conclusion: Oketani massage can be used as a care intervention by nurses to improve breastfeeding in mothers who undergo cesarean sections and have more breastfeeding problems. The survival of cancer patients is often short despite receiving therapy, but it really depends on various things including those that play an important role is the ability of patients to improve their life status in dealing with illnesses and therapy through increased self-efficacy because self-efficacy of cancer patients often experience reduction due to cancer and the therapy it undergoes. The pre–test and the first post -test and also the second post-test research design in the form of self-efficacy training of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy used a quasi-experimental design without a control group. Data analysis used dependent t test and repeat ANOVA test. There were significant effects and differences in self-efficacy training on the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy with the p value dependent test was 0,000 and the repeat ANOVA test was p value 0,000. The uses of structured self-efficacy training be one of the considerations of nursing interventions to improve the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
