The Internet of Everything is an interdisciplinary concept that involves technology, applications and people in a framework where emerging technologies can give a relevant contribute in education and in different application areas, namely in the scope of the interactive mobile technologies. This Special Issue collects a set of contributions to this topic resulting from the works presented in the Experiment@ International Workshop 2016 “The Emerging Technologies on the Internet of Everything” – ETIoE’16, held at University of the Azores (Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal). These articles comprise different perspectives in this field from research work and application development to case studies.

The use of advanced computer technologies has dramatically changed marketing. Concepts such as smart, sustainable, and green marketing have emerged in the last 20 years. One of these new technologies is the Internet of Things (IoT), which has led to the development of the activities and performances of industries in various dimensions. For the various objects, such as people, processes, and data, involved in marketing activities, the Internet of Everything (IoE) as an evolved IoT is a possible future scenario. Some sectors pretend to be the first to implement this, and the more they rely on dynamic, unstable customer needs, the better a solution the IoE is for them. Therefore, this paper presents a clear vision of smart, sustainable marketing based on the IoE in one of the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industries, the dairy industry. Key factors are identified to help readers understand this concept better. The expert interview makes it possible to draw a picture of the factors that have helped successfully implement the IoE in the dairy sector.

Narrowband internet of things (NBIoT) is a leaner and thinner version of the IoT which needs much less resources than the other forms of the IoTs. Therefore, it is considered as a low power wide area network (LPWAN) technology. It can connect with a large number of devices with a very small amount of power and bandwidth. It has potential to connect almost all the considerable objects with the internet. Thus, it is a very powerful technology to establish internet of everything (IoE), a framework consisting of data, processes, sensing, and follow up actions for an intelligent environment. In this chapter, the authors present the IoE friendly architecture of NBIoT, its LPWAN features, principles, and its common applications in different sectors to show its versatility toward IoE. They show the layered architecture of a typical NBIoT and the main protocols used in the narrowband scenarios. They show the general applications of NBIoT for IoE and how it can provide services with limited bandwidth and power. With all these wonderful features, NBIoT is certainly an attractive technology for IoE which can provide the accelerated innovation opportunities.

The whole world is changing quickly into a mechanical world. One of the most encouraging innovations is the smart sensor innovation which is presently accessible all over the place. Nowadays the utilization of internet is exaggerated in our lives everywhere so that most of the things we use in our day-to-day lives are dependent on internet, which leads to a new era of internet of everything (IoE). The internet of everything (IoE) has different applications in medication, from far off seeing to smart sensors and clinical appliances. It can ensure and screen patients and improve the degree of care. Secure computing is essential as environments continue to become intertwined and hyperconnected. As the Internet of Things (IoT), Web of Things (WoT), and the Internet of Everything (IoE) dominate the landscape of technological platforms, protection these complicated networks is important. The everyday person who wishes to have more devices that allow the ability to be connected needs to be aware of what threats they could be potentially exposing themselves to. Additionally, for the unknowing consumer of everyday products needs to be aware of what it means to have sensors, Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID), Bluetooth, and WiFi enabled products. This submission explores how Availability, Integrity, and Confidentiality (AIC) can be applied to IoT, WoT, and IoE with consideration for the application of these architectures in the defense sector.

The next big wave, the Internet of Things or Internet of Everything (IoT/IoE) is on the way. What does that mean for semiconductor packaging, assembly and test? What are the requirements? What solutions can be provided? The market will be wide and fragmented. Many different solutions will be needed. Flexibility and the capability to customize system solutions will be crucial. The fact is, it will be all about smart system integration, integration of sensors, MEMS, connectivity and memory: more functionality on less space in small and thin System-in-Package (SiP) and Package-on-Package (PoP). There will not be one specific packaging technology for IoT/IoE, and no new “IoT/IoE Packaging Technology”. The toolbox is here already, and further features required to meet the needs of future IoT/IoE modules are under development. That is actually good news, as the cost pressure will be high, and materialization of existing manufacturing environment, of mature and yielding packaging technologies will be a key for success.
