Proof problems, especially the ones of the synthetic plane geometry solvable by deductive methods, play a significant role in mathematical education and due to their demanding principle also in the above-standard education including mathematical competitions. Therefore, the issue of preparing pupils for solving the proof problems is very important. This study aimed to find out if the contemporary state of the system of pupils’ preparation for synthetic plane geometry proof problems is sufficient enough for the mentioned purpose. From the full set of schools of the Czech Republic, there were 14 schools identified as the successful ones based on the results of the national round of the Mathematical Olympiad. These schools were asked questions about literature used for pupils’ preparation and the publications named in the answers were then deeply inspected. The results showed a narrow range of the literature used by the schools and the didactic-methodical inspection of stated literature detected considerable space for improvements which led the author to the main theme of his dissertation.

The goal of this paper is to present the media image of campaign “Hello Czech Republic”, organized in the Czech Republic in 2016 by the Meta association. Its task was to adapt to the Czech conditions Swedish teaching materials on refugees, national identity, stereotypes or migration, which would help in the work of Czech teachers. They consisted of a manual for teachers with suggestions of thirteen lessons, film Šádí, presenting the story of a small Kurdish girl, and comic book Jednou se zase setkáme, Sanam. Příběh o cestě za svobodou, telling the story of Hamid, who was forced to escape from Afghanistan to Sweden. The comic book, which was presented in the article in more detail, became the main subject of media reports. However, the recipient is not able to find out about it too much because it has become only a pretext for presenting the content more favorable from the point of view of the media. Therefore, the main theme in most of the media information has become one of the tasks, telling of a fictional nuclear accident in the Czech Republic, which effectively raised a wave of criticism directed at the campaign, not only from the media, but also the most important politicians in the Czech Republic. Selective and distorted image, created by media, was thus subordinated to current events in the country and used in the political struggle.

In both Poland and Slovakia, national conservative parties have recently formed or at least have been included in government. In contrast, national conservatism does not play a significant role in the Czech Republic where political life is polarised between national liberalism and left-wing parties. Reasons for the different trajectories can be found in differing transformation strategies and the role of progressive parties in these strategies.

Abstract This paper deals with the institutional and factual readiness of cities and villages in the Czech Republic to use Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI). On the basis of a questionnaire survey carried out in May 2014 among representatives of 69 municipalities around the core cities of Brno, Jihlava, Olomouc and Hradec Králové - Pardubice as well as a comparison of several model agglomerations, it identifies the main problems and proposes solutions to them. The main theme of this paper is to evaluate the formation of partnerships of municipalities and the process of creating integrated strategies for metropolitan areas. The paper also deals with the relationships and functional links between cities and villages and their hinterland, the common development issues and the existing structures of cooperation and communication. In the conclusion possible recommendations are given to improve the ITI functioning in the Czech Republic on the basis of both, the assessment of the situation in the Republic itself and the reflection on developments in other EU countries.

The share of industrial production on GNP has been decreasing over the 1990s in the Czech Republic and, in the same time, a branch restructuring took place. The industrial transformation is accompanied by a decline of labour force and an increase of unemployment. Better situation has been observed in the regions with an inflow of foreign capital. The article deals with the significant role of direct foreign investments for the regional development. The analysis of investment localization is linked with the theory of development polarization.

This paper seeks to analyze the nature of the German minorities in the Czech Republic and Poland. In order to achieve this goal, the relationship between Czechoslovakia/the Czech Republic and Poland with the Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany/FRG) forms an essential intellectual backdrop to our main theme. Reference to the Deutsche Demokratische Republik (German Democratic Republic/GDR) will be made as and where appropriate. As we shall see, tensions simmered between the Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands (Socialist Unity Party of Germany/SED) and the Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza Zjednoczona (Polish United Workers' Party/PZPR), and in reality relations between the two sides were poor. Reference will be made to wartime German occupation policy in both Poland and the Czech lands. Due attention will also be paid to the consequent expulsion of ethnic Germans from Poland and Czechoslovakia. However, due to limitations of space these themes, that have been exhaustively dealt with elsewhere, do not form part of our main focus of study.
