A Pilot Study of a Dynamical Systems Approach to Examining Changes in Static Balance of Adolescents

In a dynamical systems model, movement patterns are dictated by several variables, called control parameters. The goal of this pilot study was to assess whether changes on a static balance task can be described by a dynamical systems model with body inertial properties as one of the potential control parameters. Three aspects of a dynamic system were examined in relation to a 2-ft. static balance task: a relation between the changes in the balance pattern and the control parameter, a relation between the stability of the balance pattern and the stability under perturbed conditions (1-ft. balance task), and during the perturbation lack of relation between the balance pattern and the control parameters. Nine adolescent boys, 15.3 ± 1.0 yr. old were examined twice over a 14-wk. period. During each testing session, participants' body mass, moments of inertia, and radius from the ankle to the center of mass were calculated, after which 1- and 2-ft. balance tasks were performed. Center of pressure coordinates were recorded using a Kistler force plate. The body parameters were used to calculate the natural frequency of the body to represent the control parameter. Significant relations among all three aspects of a dynamic system examined in both the lateral and anterior-posterior axes were found. This investigation was designed for exploratory purposes and limited to correlational analysis; therefore, no concrete conclusions could be drawn. The results, however, suggest a dynamical systems approach to the study of static balance patterns may be possible.

Oscillation of torque and speed occurs in the electric powertrain based on permanent magnet synchronous motor under field-oriented control when we set an unreasonable proportional control parameter of proportional–integral regulator. Thus, it influences the stability and reliability of electric powertrain. The objectives of this article are to study nonlinear dynamics of electric powertrain under various complex operating conditions and settle a minimum stable range of proportional control parameter of proportional–integral regulator. To achieve these goals, nonlinear dynamic model of electric powertrain was established. Then, we solved equilibrium points and analyzed the stability of equilibrium points. Finally, we set different control parameters of proportional–integral regulator and various complex working conditions of electric powertrain to simulate nonlinear dynamics of electric powertrain. The simulation results show the electric powertrain operates stably when the control parameter is set in the area where there is only one stable equilibrium point. Chaos do exist in the electric powertrain with field-oriented control under different working conditions. Our analysis reveals the dynamics of electric powertrain are dependent on proportional control parameters of proportional–integral regulator and electric powertrain performs unstably most likely under the operating condition with no-load and zero reference rotational speed.

The Euler–Bernoulli beam model with non-dissipative boundary conditions of feedback control type is investigated. Components of the two-dimensional input vector are shear and moment at the right end, and components of the observation vector are time derivatives of displacement and slope at the right end. The codiagonal matrix depending on two control parameters relates input and observation. The paper contains five results. First, asymptotic approximation for eigenmodes is derived. Second, ‘the main identity’ is established. It provides a relation between mode shapes of two systems: one with non-zero control parameters and the other one with zero control parameters. Third, when one control parameter is positive and the other one is zero, ‘the main identity’ yields stability of all eigenmodes (though the system is non-dissipative). Fourth, the stability of eigenmodes is extended to the case when one control parameter is positive, and the other one is sufficiently small. Finally, existence and properties of ‘deadbeat’ modes are investigated.

AbstractImportant similarities exist between the dynamical concepts implicit in Feldman & Levin's extended λ model and those basic to a dynamical systems approach. We argue that careful application of the key concepts of control and order parameters, equilibria, and stability, can relate known facts of neuromuscular processes to the observables of functional, task-specific behavior.

Subject. The article discusses Russia’s economy and analyzes its effectiveness. Objectives. The study attempts to determine to what extent Russia’s economy is effective. Methods. The study is based on the systems approach and the statistical analysis. Results. I discovered significant fluctuations of the structural balance due to changing growth rates of the total gross national debt denominated in the national currency, and the stability of growth rates of governmental revenue. Changes in the RUB exchange rate and an additional growth in GDP are the main stabilizers of the structural balance, as they depend on hydrocarbon export. As a result of the analysis of cash flows, I found that the exports slowed down. Financial resources are strongly centralized, since Moscow and the Moscow Oblast are incrementing their share in the export of mineral resources, oil and refining products and import of electrical machines and equipment. Conclusions and Relevance. The fact that the Russian economy has been effectively organized is proved with the centralization of the economic power and the limits through the cross-regional corporation, such as Moscow and the Moscow Oblast, which is resilient to any regional difficulties ensuring the economic growth and sustainable development. The findings would be valuable for the political and economic community to outline and substantiate actions to keep rates of the economic growth and sustainable development of the Russian economy.

The utilization of local food commodities such as corn and cassava with seaweed addition as a dietary fiber source for producing artificial rice through extrusion technology is an  alternative for food diversification. The research was carried out to find out the best composition (rice, corn, cassava, and seaweed) and temperature of extrusion process on making artificial rice and the influence of dietary fibre on sensory properties and physicochemical. The composition of rice, corn, and cassava in proportion  of 1:3:1 with 20% seaweed, Eucheuma cottonii, addition and temperature extruder of 90 °C were selected as the best product for artificial rice. The  sensory evaluation was 8.02±0.21 (people’s preference). In physicochemical properties, dietary fiber significantly affected on low bulk density and starch digestibility. Purpose. Increasing the uniformity of distribution of mineral fertilizers and other bulk materials due to the stability of their feed from the body to the spreading working bodies using the top feeder. Methods. The following methods are used to achieve this aim: the method of comparing the differences between individual groups of fertilizers, the method of analyzing the properties of a new technical system, the method of functional inventiveness, and the methods of theoretical and analytical mechanics. Results. The traction body of the conveyor of the upper feed of the body fat body machine for mineral fertilizers and other bulk materials was substantiated and the relationship between the height of its scrapers and the distance between them was established, as well as the nature of the mineral fertilizer pressure on the curvilinear wall of the body. In addition, the design of the advanced body fertilizer spreader is justified, which ensures a stable flow of fertilizers from the body due to the improvement of the top feeder. Conclusions. Because of the conducted researches, the advantages of machines equipped with top feeder are found. They create the conditions for the forced feeding mineral fertilizers and other loose materials from the container to the distribution bodies, which is a prerequisite for their evenness on the surface. With this, the imperfection of known machines with the top feeder constrains their introduction into agricultural production. On this account, a more thoroughly constructed solution of the body feeder of the top feed is substantiated, in which the conveyor provides a stable supply of fertilizers from the body with reduced energy consumption during operation.
