Abstract In order to solve the flange and dent defects in the end face of the cold extrusion of the connecting screw, the Deform3D software is used to simulate the extrusion forming process of the connecting screw, and the velocity vector is used to study the metal flow law of the part in the cold extrusion process. According to the velocity field and deformation law obtained by the simulation, the end face depression defect in the forming process is predicted. An improved production process is proposed, and the simulation results show that the new process scheme effectively eliminates the “sag” defect on the end face of the part. Finally, the extruded parts with qualified dimensional accuracy are obtained through experiments, and the results are basically consistent with the simulation results.

AbstractIn order to be at pace with the market requirements of solid dosage forms and regulatory standards, a transformation towards systematic processing using continuous manufacturing (CM) and automated model-based control is being thought through for its fundamental advantages over conventional batch manufacturing. CM eliminates the key gaps through the integration of various processes while preserving quality attributes via the use of process analytical technology (PAT). The twin screw extruder (TSE) is one such equipment adopted by the pharmaceutical industry as a substitute for the traditional batch granulation process. Various types of granulation techniques using twin screw extrusion technology have been explored in the article. Furthermore, individual components of a TSE and their conjugation with PAT tools and the advancements and applications in the field of nutraceuticals and nanotechnology have also been discussed. Thus, the future of granulation lies on the shoulders of continuous TSE, where it can be coupled with computational mathematical studies to mitigate its complications.

Extrusion technology allows the preparation of analog rice, an artificial product made of carbohydrate sources other than rice, with characteristics similar to natural rice. In this study, we aimed at determining the effect of composition and temperature on the nutritional content of analog rice obtained using heat extrusion technology. The physical properties and acceptability of the resulting product were also studied. Skim milk, sago, mung bean, and corn flour as well as the binder carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) were used. The procedure was conducted in four stages: raw-material preparation, formulation, physicochemical evaluation, and sensory property evaluation. The best analog rice formula was established as 50% sago flour, 30% corn flour, 19.2% mung bean flour, 0.4% skim milk, and 0.4% CMC. The panelists’ most preferred rice analog formula was the one with the highest sago starch and skim milk content. The extrusion temperature did not significantly affect the nutrient content. However, it had a considerable impact on the thermal profile and physical properties, such as appearance and granular morphology.

Abstract Industry 4.0 and digitalization are widely argued for the future success of numerous industrial solutions. Big data management might lead to the assumption that every issue can be solved numerically without any physical background. To some extent, this strategy will help within the plastics industry in general and in the extrusion technology in particular. However, a deep process knowledge together with process-relevant sensors, as well as the right process arrangements within the processing chain combined with smart data mining methods will be still the key success of industry 4.0. This presentation illustrates, based on a brief review on existing control strategies (Part 1), including sensory and predictive control models for reactive extrusion applied at a real-life on-site best practice project (Part 2), possibilities in combination of process tasks with digitalization approaches for PP-Polymer production. Specifically, rheological research conducted with a novel, patented multi-point rheometer (part 3), will provide a deeper insight into dynamic processes such as reactive extrusion. With those results and derivations thereof, improvements in predictive process control in addition to artificial control systems are made and might even lead to further interesting opportunities.

The melt temperature of aluminum alloys plays a significant role in determining the microstructure characteristic during continuous rheo-extrusion. However, it is difficult to measure the actual melt temperature in the roll-shoe gap. In this work, based on the basic theory of heat transfer, a calculation model for heat transfer coefficient of cooling water/roll interface and melt/roll interface is established. In addition, the relationship between the temperature at the melt/roll interface and the velocity of cooling water is investigated. Combined with the CALPHAD calculation, the melt temperature during solidification in the continuous rheo-extrusion process is calculated. Using this model, the cooling rate of an Al–6Mg (wt.%) alloy melt prepared by continuous rheo-extrusion is estimated to be 10.3 K/s. This model used to determine the melt parameters during solidification provides a reference for optimizing the production process of continuous rheo-extrusion technology.

The whole Tire Industry around the Globe is set on an important mission to create a greener environment wherein the used tires, scrap worn out tires & shop floor rejected tires are used back in to the system of new Tire manufacturing thereby create a Circular Economy in the Tire Industry via non-chemical Devulcanization process. The Tyromer TDP (Tyre Derived Polymer) production process uses an industrial proven extrusion technology in a patented Twin Screw Extruder and it is reliable. The process is energy efficient as it is continuous. That also gives fundamentally more consistent product quality compared to batch processes. In this extrusion process, what goes in must come out and hence the TDP production process creates no waste. The only catalyst used in the process is Super Critical Carbon dioxide. No chemical solvents or devulcanization chemicals are used and the process is Energy efficient (400 kWh/MT), Very Fast (2 minutes from crumb powder to TDP) and having High conversion rate (99+% crumb powder to TDP).

Gluten is detrimental to people who suffer from gluten-related disorders. Recently, the upsurge in demand for gluten-free products can be traced not only from the population that suffered from gluten-related disorders but also people who prioritize healthy lifestyles and practising gluten-free diets. One of the most challenging tasks in the development of gluten-free products is their quality. The purpose of this review is to describe the application of gluten-free flours in common bakery products such as bread, cakes, and biscuits. This article does summarize some functional ingredients such as hydrocolloids, protein, and enzymes and also the applications of novel technological approaches including high-pressure treatment, sourdough fermentation and extrusion technology. Overall, different approaches utilized in the improvement of gluten-free bakery products will lead to various quality outcomes.
